-Cardiff has been celebrating today.

-we're focusing on three things.

-First, there's a new cafe that's run

-by a lady from Aberaeron.

-The Aberaeron theme continues

-with Catrin Finch on the harp.

-Today is also the tenth birthday of

-the Senedd building in Cardiff Bay.

-Tonight, the building

-is hosting a massive party...

-..in the presence of its architect,

-Sir Richard Rogers.

-A very happy 10th birthday

-to the Senedd building.

-The celebrations in Cardiff

-started at midday...

-..with the annual

-St David's Day Parade.

-It started 16 years ago at the start

-of the new millennium...

-..to show our nationality

-and celebrate our traditions.

-It's something to show the Welsh,

-our capital of Cardiff...

-..and it gives people

-the chance to see the place.

-It's incredibly important

-to celebrate in our capital city.

-People are aware of St David's Day

-and wearing daffodils and leeks.

-It's important for the family

-to celebrate St David's Day.

-Branwen's nursery is closed so we

-took the day off work to celebrate.

-It helps to boost tourism.

-The various stalls wouldn't be here

-if it wasn't for this procession.

-I'm wearing my red coat and hat

-to celebrate St David's Day.

-It's brilliant

-to celebrate being Welsh.

-We only normally get to do it

-at international rugby matches.

-I'm a resident of Cardiff and feel

-it's important to celebrate...

-..and showcase our culture.

-It's great to see so many people

-celebrating and speaking Welsh.

-You truly feel Welsh

-and everyone is having fun...

-..whilst speaking Welsh

-and celebrating our traditions.

-Children are dressed in costumes

-and it reminds me of my school days.

-It's been wonderful for the children

-to sing in the procession.

-A lot of people have been filming

-them and taking photographs.

-Year 5 walked to City Hall

-to celebrate St David's Day.

-The atmosphere was amazing.

-We sang Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau,

-Calon Lan and waved our flags...

-..whilst shouting "Wales!"

-It was so much fun and I felt Welsh.

-It's a day to remind people

-of our existence and language.

-I think everyone is very supportive.

-It's great to see the celebrations.

-I've dreamt about owning my own

-cafe for years.

-It's a great location.

-It's close to the City Arms.

-We hope to serve traditional dishes.

-There's going to be seasonal soups.

-It's called Hiraeth.

-I think this place is wonderful.

-Gerald Morgan has penned a new book

-folk, miracle and children's tales.

-But Saint David didn't entertain

-the idea of children.

-He was strict in delivering

-discipline at the monastery.

-According to tradition,

-the monastery once stood here.

-But on the contrary,

-and this will annoy some people...

-..it's claimed that Saint David

-hailed from Cardigan.

-To me, David is a saint that's been

-reinvented through the centuries...

-..to be this new symbol for Wales,

-a leader and even a military leader.

-He was a Catholic

-and an Anglican saint.

-Later, he was accepted by laymen...

-..and everyone was prepared to sit,

-eat and drink in his memory.

-The new method of remembering him

-is to hold a parade in his name.

-The aim was to make a readable book

-for adults in Welsh.

-Any previous books

-discuss Saint David's at his peak.

-I've followed him

-through the generations...

-..and written about

-his pilgrims and poets.
