-Welcome back to Monmouth.

-Tonight sees the unveiling

-of the Chair and Crown...

-..of the 2016 Monmouthshire

-and District National Eisteddfod.

-Frank's the chairman of the

-Eisteddfod executive committee.

-Everyone is working hard for the

-Eisteddfod.

-The work has started on the Maes.

-There's a white pavilion this year.

-It stands in place of the pink one.

-I'm sure everyone will enjoy the

-event.

-I'm feeling nervous.

-The Eisteddfod is only six weeks

-away.

-Everyone is excited but we're all

-nervous too.

-Let's unveil the Chair.

-What do you think?

-It's incredible.

-Let's hear more about

-the inspiration behind the Chair.

-This is where Dic and his family

-were educated.

-The Chair was designed

-and produced...

-..in the workshop where the

-Yr Hendre family was educated.

-The Chair was inspired by the Chair

-of the 1966 Eisteddfod in Aberafon.

-Dic didn't like fuss and this

-is reflected in the Chair's design.

-I'm glad that we asked Emyr from

-Ysgol Aberteifi to make the Chair.

-He didn't think twice

-before agreeing to make it.

-It turned out to be more personal

-than I expected.

-I worked closely with Jean

-and the family.

-The Aberafon Chair had a lot of

-leather so this one has leather too.

-It's made from black walnut...

-..with bronze cast into it for the

-name and symbol of the Eisteddfod.

-I visited him to see

-how the Chair was progressing.

-One night, it had been assembled and

-it looked like an Eisteddfod Chair.

-The school's ties with Dic Jones

-and this new Eisteddfod Chair...

-..was marked with a mural by the

-Northwalian artist, Dafydd Roberts.

-The mural contains excerpts

-from the poem, Y Cynhaeaf...

-..and images associated

-with the harvest...

-..and the importance of the role of

-the farmer.

-"Whilst there's humanity,

-there will always be farming."

-It's important to have this mural

-as Dic Jones came to our school...

-..and this is where he learnt

-to write his poems.

-It's beautiful, modern, bright,

-lovely and important for our school.

-We'll remember it when we're older

-and return to the school.

-One of us might learn to write

-poetry and have a mural ourselves.

-The mural is a visual reminder

-and better than a plaque.

-It's a real inspiration

-for anyone who sees it.

-They'll think of Dic winning

-at the Aberafon Eisteddfod in 1966.

-They had the vision to do this

-and the family treasure it.

-I'm sure Dic would love this Chair

-that was made in his hometown.

-Dic would have loved its simplicity

-and it truly speaks to you.

-It was great to see it

-coming together.

-The finishing touches

-brought the Chair to life...

-..and the wood truly shone.

-I hope it does that on the stage

-during the Eisteddfod week.

-has made an impressive Chair.

-He was a former tutor of mine.

-Next, let's see the Crown.

-This year's Crown was created by

-the jeweller, Deborah Edwards.

-She was educated in London.

-The Crown is beautiful.

-It's a huge honour to make it.

-Can you tell us about the Crown?

-Every part is a shape of a window

-from Tintern Abbey.

-It features castles, rivers and

-bridges.

-There's two specific layers.

-The Crown and Chair are incredible,

-Celebrations of Wales' win continue

-Over the past few months, Ysgol

-Gynradd Gymraeg Castell-Nedd...

-..has competed in rugby and football

-events across England and Wales.

-They've had plenty of success

-so we've been to meet them.

-We had the opportunity to represent

-the Swansea City Football Club...

-..in the Premier League

-Schools Tournament.

-It was held at Goodison Park

-in Liverpool...

-..which is the home of Everton.

-Some 1,700 of schools

-competed in this tournament...

-..and the top 20 schools

-got to play at Goodison.

-It was a wonderful to play in such

-a wonderful stadium as Goodison.

-In our group, we had to beat

-West Brom, Leicester, Aston Villa...

-..and we drew against Liverpool.

-We entered the semi-finals

-and played against Everton.

-Our captain, Joe,

-scored a hat-trick.

-We played and beat Crystal Palace

-in the final.

-Our captain scored again and

-it was an unforgettable experience.

-Winning the tournament

-was the icing on the cake!

-This is more of an achievement

-for us...

-..because the school doesn't

-have a lawn or playing field...

-..so travel to a nearby school

-for training sessions.

-It makes the school's success

-in two sports even more incredible.

-They also won

-the Welsh School's Rugby Cup...

-..at the Principality Stadium...

-..and there was more success

-with the Urdd tournaments.

-At the end of April,

-we went to Aberystwyth...

-..for the Urdd's seven-a-side

-football and rugby competitions.

-We won both competitions

-and are the first school to do that.

-We have a lot of talent at Ysgol

-Gynradd Gymraeg Castell-Nedd...

-..and I hope we can all

-represent Wales in the future.

-of Roald Dahl's birth.

-He wrote children's books and was

-passionate about helping the sick.

-Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's

-Charity was founded in 1990.

-One Machynlleth family relies on

-the service this charity provides.

-Seren is six, has severe epilepsy

-and will undergo a huge operation.

-Heledd Gwyndaf went to meet Seren

-and her family.

-The Hughes family

-live in rural Machynlleth...

-..but despite the wonderful views

-all is not well with their lives.

-When Seren was born,

-Ruth noticed something was wrong.

-She could see the cot was shaking.

-The midwife advised medical help

-as she thought it was a seizure.

-Seren suffers from various seizures

-that last for seconds to an hour.

-She had up to 100 seizures a day

-that persisted throughout the day.

-Seren has already undergone surgery

-that hasn't made a great difference.

-More major surgery

-lies ahead of Seren...

-..and this time

-they'll operate deeper in her brain.

-The surgery is similar

-to her previous treatment.

-But back in February wires were

-inserted deep into her brain...

-..to give a clearer insight

-of what areas are operable.

-The condition has certainly

-affected family life...

-..but Seren

-takes everything in her stride.

-She's very determined.

-Following each surgery,

-she seems to bounce back.

-She pushes herself

-and if anything we have to pace her.

-Seren adores Ilan, her 12 year old

-brother and the feeling is mutual.

-He's a blessing for everyone.

-He's had to deal with a lot.

-Seren will have seizures in the

-morning and Hefin is in work...

-..so Ilan has to hold Seren whilst

-I administer emergency medication.

-He asks the bus driver to wait

-so he can help me out.

-Once we deal with everything,

-Ilan jumps on the school bus.

-It's a massive worry...

-..but the daily strain is eased by

-the Roald Dahl Children's Charity...

-..which performs unprecedented work.

-Roald Dahl's

-Marvellous Children Charity...

-..was established 25 years ago,

-a year after Roald Dahl's death.

-We fund nurses and grants

-for families of poorly children.

-We've got five Roald Dahl nurses

-who take care of epileptic children.

-One of our nurses in Wales

-in Roz Atkinson.

-She works in Cardiff and nurses

-children with severe epilepsy.

-She has over 700 children

-under her care across Wales.

-Roz liaises between families and

-expert neurologists at the Heath.

-She's the one to call in a crisis.

-We still depend on her

-despite not seeing her for weeks.

-I know she's there for us

-if we need her.

-You must have mixed feelings

-about the impending surgery.

-On this occasion, we've had

-a few weeks to reflect upon it.

-We haven't got a choice

-and have to go ahead with it.

-We'll deal with anything

-that is presented at us.
