Hello, I'm Andy. Welcome to the National Museum.

0:01:140:01:18

I work in the dinosaur gallery with Hatty, our expert.

0:01:180:01:21

And there's nothing she doesn't know about dinosaurs.

0:01:210:01:26

She asked me to bring her this bucket of sand for her display.

0:01:260:01:29

Come on, let's go and take a look.

0:01:290:01:31

I've got the sand you asked for.

0:01:320:01:35

That's a strange-looking creature.

0:01:370:01:40

Oh, I didn't mean you, Hatty.

0:01:400:01:43

Hatty? What are you doing?

0:01:490:01:51

I'm trying to work out exactly

0:01:510:01:53

how this lovely ornithocheirus would've flown.

0:01:530:01:57

So I can make sure I've got his head in exactly the right position.

0:02:030:02:08

Ornithocheirus.

0:02:080:02:10

It was a huge flying reptile at the time of the dinosaurs.

0:02:100:02:14

Like a giant lizard with wings?

0:02:140:02:16

Yeah. Except they weren't just any old wings,

0:02:160:02:19

these were more than five metres from tip to tip.

0:02:190:02:23

One, two, three, four, five.

0:02:230:02:27

So each wing is about as long as I am tall.

0:02:270:02:30

Can you imagine these huge reptiles flying over the oceans,

0:02:300:02:35

catching fish in their beaks,

0:02:350:02:37

then landing on beautiful sandy beaches

0:02:370:02:40

covered in these beautiful things?

0:02:400:02:43

-That's an interesting-looking shell.

-It's not a shell, it's a skeleton.

0:02:440:02:49

Just like that's a skeleton.

0:02:490:02:51

This is the skeleton of a little sea creature called a sand dollar.

0:02:510:02:55

Sand dollar?

0:02:550:02:57

They spend their lives crawling on the ocean floor,

0:02:570:03:00

then when they die, their skeletons wash up on the beach.

0:03:000:03:05

Is that the time? I'd better be going.

0:03:050:03:08

The museum opens soon and I've got lots to do.

0:03:080:03:10

Do you think you could spread some sand around?

0:03:100:03:13

I want it to look like a proper beach.

0:03:130:03:16

-Leave it to me.

-Thanks, Andy!

0:03:160:03:18

HE WHISTLES A TUNE

0:03:230:03:25

Ooo! Better be careful I don't bury Hatty's sand dollar.

0:03:270:03:30

No, no! Come back! No, not down there!

0:03:340:03:37

Oh, no! What am I going to do?

0:03:370:03:42

I suppose I can make a new one out of glue and sand and something.

0:03:420:03:47

CLOCK CHIMES

0:03:470:03:49

Squawk! Squawk! Squawk!

0:03:510:03:55

Even better.

0:03:550:03:58

I can get myself a brand-new one.

0:03:580:04:01

Time to go on a dinosaur adventure!

0:04:010:04:04

Right. Waistcoat.

0:04:140:04:16

Check! Gizmo.

0:04:190:04:21

Check! Hat.

0:04:230:04:25

Check! And last but not least, Hatty's backpack!

0:04:270:04:30

The time of ornithocheirus!

0:04:540:04:56

I've made it!

0:05:260:05:28

I've travelled back in time 127 million years

0:05:280:05:32

to the time of ornithocheirus.

0:05:320:05:35

I can't see one among these pterosaurs, though.

0:05:350:05:39

And I'm here in Brazil.

0:05:400:05:43

This is what Brazil would've looked like millions of years ago.

0:05:430:05:47

Look at those amazing rock towers!

0:05:470:05:50

OK, sand dollar.

0:05:530:05:55

I'm not going to find any sand dollars on this rocky beach.

0:05:550:05:59

If I can get over those cliffs,

0:05:590:06:01

there might be a sandy beach on the other side. Let's go!

0:06:010:06:05

Just look at them!

0:06:120:06:14

SQUAWKING

0:06:140:06:16

That is the strangest pterosaur I've ever seen! I wonder what they are.

0:06:170:06:22

I'm going to get closer to them.

0:06:220:06:25

This really is incredible!

0:06:390:06:42

It says here they're called tapejaras.

0:06:470:06:51

And that the males use those huge red crests

0:06:510:06:54

to scare off other males and to attract the females.

0:06:540:06:57

That must be why they're moving their heads up and down -

0:06:570:07:01

to attract the girls up there.

0:07:010:07:04

What's that?

0:07:040:07:06

It's an ornithocheirus!

0:07:100:07:13

Look at the crest on its beak! And its huge sharp teeth!

0:07:130:07:18

Perfect for catching fish when it's flying over the sea.

0:07:180:07:21

What did Hatty say? Ornithocheirus gather around sandy beaches.

0:07:240:07:30

Maybe he can give me a lift.

0:07:300:07:32

Come on, let's do it!

0:07:320:07:34

It's not easy climbing these cliffs. Better watch out for that blowhole!

0:07:400:07:44

There he is!

0:07:470:07:49

Oh, no! How am I going to get to those sandy...? Argh!

0:07:510:07:57

Wha-ha-ha-hah!

0:07:570:07:59

Whoo-hoo-hoo!

0:07:590:08:01

Ho-ho-ho! I've landed on an ornithocheirus!

0:08:040:08:08

Whoo-hoo!

0:08:080:08:11

It looks like we're already heading to the beach.

0:08:200:08:23

There's loads of his friends. Watch out, coming into land!

0:08:230:08:27

Whoa! Whoo!

0:08:310:08:34

Oh!

0:08:380:08:40

There really are a lot of them, aren't there? And they're so noisy!

0:08:400:08:46

The reason they're noisy is because

0:08:460:08:49

the males are trying to attract the females.

0:08:490:08:51

SQUAWKING

0:08:510:08:54

I can't believe how sharp their teeth are!

0:09:100:09:14

Their breath smells of fish!

0:09:140:09:16

Oh, sorry.

0:09:180:09:20

What's that? Is that a sand dollar?

0:09:220:09:24

Oh, no, it's just a shell.

0:09:260:09:29

Ooo! But that looks promising.

0:09:290:09:33

Is it? Yes! It's a sand dollar!

0:09:360:09:40

CLOCK CHIMES

0:09:400:09:42

I've got to get back to the museum! Right.

0:09:420:09:45

Hang on, wait for me! I need a lift back to the clock!

0:09:470:09:51

Wait! Wait for me! Come back!

0:09:510:09:54

Come back! Oh! What am I going to do now?

0:09:550:10:00

I need to get myself back to the museum!

0:10:000:10:03

Hatty's backpack! It's always full of useful things!

0:10:040:10:08

A wetsuit? How's this going to help me?

0:10:110:10:14

Unless...!

0:10:190:10:21

The great thing about wetsuits...

0:10:440:10:46

..they're incredibly...

0:10:490:10:51

..stretchy!

0:10:550:10:57

Wh-aa-aa-aa-aa!

0:10:590:11:02

Oh, no, not the blowhole again!

0:11:020:11:05

Whoo-hoo-hoo!

0:11:060:11:08

HE SCREAMS

0:11:080:11:10

Whoa!

0:11:190:11:21

CLOCK CHIMES

0:11:220:11:24

CLOCK CHIMES

0:11:550:11:59

Hurry along now.

0:12:120:12:14

We don't want to turn into dinosaurs ourselves, do we?

0:12:150:12:19

This is an ornithocheirus.

0:12:250:12:29

A large pterosaur that filled the skies in the time of the dinosaurs.

0:12:290:12:33

-They were truly incredible fliers.

-You're telling me!

0:12:330:12:37

They would've easily flown thousands of miles in just a few months.

0:12:370:12:41

And this...

0:12:430:12:45

is...

0:12:450:12:48

a sand dollar.

0:12:480:12:50

A sea creature that's been washing up on our beaches

0:12:520:12:55

for millions and millions of years.

0:12:550:12:58

Thanks for finishing the beach. It looks great!

0:12:580:13:01

And you look like you've already been for a swim.

0:13:010:13:04

Ssh!

0:13:080:13:10

See you next time.

0:13:100:13:12
