Morning, guys.

I'm Andy and I work as a park keeper at Pickles' Animal Park.

It's my job to look after the animals

and I'm checking on the water birds, like these flamingos.

They're pink because of the food they eat.

We have a very interesting bird over here, spoonbill.

They're called spoonbills due to the shape of their bills -

they're like spoons.

Are you saying I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth?

-You're so cheeky, Andy.

-Everything seems OK here, then.

-'Come in, Andy. Over.'

Oh, that's Mr Pickles, my boss. Hello, sir.

'I've noticed the sea lions could do with more fish to eat.

-Not a problem, sir.

I'm going for my tea break, then I'll bring them over.

Oh! Hello, Andy.

Kip, what are you doing with my gizmo?

Well, you know how sometimes things get a bit smelly on our adventures?

Yes...?

I thought that I might make a few tweaks to your gizmo.

Oh, great.

"Tweaks"? Hang on a minute, what kind of tweaks?

If you smell something a bit pongy,

then all you have to do is activate the super sweet-smelling sensor

-and then there'll be no more nasty smells.

-Brilliant.

Yeah, now all I need to do is test it.

So, er, what have you been doing?

I've been to see the water birds

to make sure they have everything they need.

Oh. I guess water birds can't be that smelly

if they've been swimming in the water.

Well, some of the water birds swim on top of the water,

-but there are some that like walking.

-Walking?

In the shallow water.

And there's this one bird that dives under the water

and swims with the fish.

-Really?

-Yup. The bird that I'm talking about is called a gannet

and they're fantastic at fishing.

What they do is that they fly high in the sky over the ocean,

looking for fish.

When they spot the fish, they dive right into the water

and swim under the water, chasing the fish.

A bird that dives into the water and swims like a school of fish,

I'd love to see that!

-What are we waiting for, Kip?

-BOTH: Time to go on a wild adventure.

We'll see them going headfirst into the water

and swimming like fish!

-We can test my super sweet-smelling sensor.

-Come on, let's go!

That's where gannets go high-diving into huge schools of fish.

Right, then South Africa, here we come. Go, cat nav, go!

-Ah, this is what it's all about, Kip.

-Ah, yeah.

So what are we looking for, Andy?

We're looking for the lush, green cliffs of South Africa.

Oh. Well, in that case, I think we've found them.

Whoa, there are loads of them! Going to make landing tricky.

Ah, let's see, where...?

Oh! There's a spot!

Right, it's time to be on our way.

I should probably stay behind to make sure that...er...

oh, those waves don't soak the Kipmobile.

After all, we don't want to get any salty water in the engine now, do we?

This is Bird Island, the largest gathering of gannets in the world.

KIP ON RADIO: 'Andy.'

It says here on the cat nav

that there are over 300,000 gannets on that island.

Wow! That's an awful lot of birds!

Yep, that's right, Kip.

And I tell you what, it's really quite stinky here.

Phwoar!

'Why does it smell so bad?'

It's because of the stinky fish they eat, Kip.

The smell is really strong!

I know, Andy! Why don't you use my super sweet-smelling sensor?

Those waves may be pretty big,

but they won't get me all the way up here. Ha!

It certainly is windy, though.

Oh! Hang on, wait for me, gannets!

Wow! Look at them all! I'm going to go down there and join them.

Whoo-hoo-hoo-hoo!

I'm flying with the gannets!

This is incredible!

Oh, but hang on. How do they know where to find the fish?

Ah, that's how they know.

Dolphins! Wow!

When the dolphins spot a big school of fish,

they race towards it as fast as they can.

And the gannets, they follow them.

Then, when they reach the fish,

that's when the gannets start to dive in.

Hover mode.

Let's see gannets catching fish underwater.

From around ten metres up,

the birds dive beak-first towards the water,

closing their wings at the very last second,

so they hit the water at an amazing 100kph!

This is incredible! Look at them all.

When they fold their wings and dive in, they're like arrows.

Hopefully, we'll get to see them swim like fish, too! Come on!

Oh, I'm not going to need this hat.
