I'm Ricky. I live in Bristol.

0:00:030:00:05

By day, I work as an animator, which is lucky, cos I love art.

0:00:050:00:10

I live for art. I even dream of art.

0:00:100:00:13

I draw...

0:00:130:00:15

I paint...

0:00:150:00:17

I make things.

0:00:170:00:20

I hang out with my mates Gavin, Michelle and Sarah.

0:00:200:00:25

SCREAMS

0:00:250:00:26

Most importantly, I make ninja moves.

0:00:260:00:28

Some people call me the...

0:00:280:00:31

Art Ninja!

0:00:310:00:33

Today, I'll show you cow... I mean how, to make a bull's head hoopla.

0:00:330:00:38

I'll whip up ghostly wallpaper that's so good, it's spooky,

0:00:380:00:42

and watch the paint fly in a slow-mo masterpiece, because, today, it's...

0:00:420:00:49

Day of the decoration.

0:00:490:00:51

ALARM CLOCK BEEPS

0:00:530:00:55

It's a new day.

0:00:560:00:59

Time to get my Ninja on.

0:00:590:01:01

And my clothes!

0:01:020:01:04

And today is not so much about painting, but decorating,

0:01:260:01:29

so let's get rolling.

0:01:290:01:30

I know what would bring this flat to life - a game of giant hoopla.

0:01:320:01:35

The Art Ninja bull's head hoopla.

0:01:370:01:39

It's got a nice ring to it.

0:01:390:01:41

So, I've got some big cardboard down here,

0:01:410:01:44

and I'm going to draw on it a great big shield to work as my back board.

0:01:440:01:48

You need a hole to hang it up. Nice big one there.

0:01:570:01:59

Now, I'm going to cut that out.

0:01:590:02:01

There we are. Now, I'm going to put that to one side,

0:02:060:02:09

cos I'll need it in a moment.

0:02:090:02:10

I've got some more cardboard here.

0:02:100:02:12

And, on this, I'm going to draw the profile of the bull's head.

0:02:120:02:15

You can look online for some nice looking silhouettes for inspiration.

0:02:170:02:21

Going to cut that out.

0:02:210:02:22

There you are. That's one.

0:02:260:02:27

Right, we're going to need two of these. Ninja skills!

0:02:270:02:30

OK, now I'm going to score a line down the inside,

0:02:330:02:35

about two centimetres from the back of the bull's head.

0:02:350:02:38

I'm going to use a ruler.

0:02:380:02:40

It's a bit safer than scissors.

0:02:400:02:43

And one on the other one. There we are.

0:02:430:02:45

And now we're going to fold it along here, and these are going to

0:02:450:02:49

work as flaps, to attach the bull's head to my back board.

0:02:490:02:54

There we are. All right, let's bring over the back board.

0:02:540:02:57

Now, you can attach these with glue stick and sticky tape,

0:02:570:03:01

or double-sided sticky tape.

0:03:010:03:03

Line-up with the middle...

0:03:050:03:07

..and sticky up the other one.

0:03:090:03:11

Sticky one next to it.

0:03:110:03:12

Again, make sure they line up nicely.

0:03:140:03:16

I'm going to reinforce it with a strip here,

0:03:160:03:18

so I'm going to cover that with some glue,

0:03:180:03:20

and this strip is the same width as the two folds put together.

0:03:200:03:24

And make it nice and strong. Lovely!

0:03:300:03:36

Now I need to make the separate parts of the nose and the head,

0:03:360:03:39

that'll hold it all together.

0:03:390:03:41

OK, I've got some more cardboard over here,

0:03:410:03:42

and the lid of some soft cheese or spread,

0:03:420:03:45

and I'm going to draw around that, for the first part of the nose.

0:03:450:03:48

And I'm going to cut that out.

0:03:480:03:50

And then I'm going to draw a couple of lines on here, that I'm going to

0:03:530:03:57

use as slits, to slide over the two parts of the bull's head.

0:03:570:04:01

I've drawn the lines to about two centimetres from the top,

0:04:010:04:04

about five centimetres apart.

0:04:040:04:06

I'm going to cut those out.

0:04:070:04:08

That's the first part of the nose.

0:04:130:04:15

OK, I've got another bit of card.

0:04:150:04:18

I'm going to draw around the lid again.

0:04:180:04:20

I'm going to turn it like that,

0:04:210:04:23

and I'm going to draw around it the other way round.

0:04:230:04:26

I'm going to draw the same lines up this one,

0:04:290:04:32

to two centimetres away from the top,

0:04:320:04:34

and just remembering that this space here is the same distance apart

0:04:340:04:38

as that strip we used to separate the bull's head.

0:04:380:04:41

There we go.

0:04:430:04:45

Here's some other bits that I've cut, and, as you can see,

0:04:450:04:47

each one is slightly bigger than the previous one, about two centimetres.

0:04:470:04:53

The two biggest pieces of card will need to be turned around,

0:04:530:04:56

and the slits cut the other way.

0:04:560:04:58

These will form the bull's head.

0:04:580:05:00

The smaller four pieces of card will form the nose.

0:05:000:05:03

So, move these to one side.

0:05:030:05:05

This layer, second from the back, gets some ears,

0:05:080:05:10

and I've pre-cut them.

0:05:100:05:12

And just to keep 'em in the style,

0:05:120:05:14

I've layered up a second bit here, so it's like the inside of the ear.

0:05:140:05:17

Bit of double-sided sticky tape.

0:05:170:05:19

Go on the side of the head there, and that one goes on to there.

0:05:190:05:22

There we go. Looking much more like a bull.

0:05:220:05:26

Now, this next layer is going to look a lot like a bull,

0:05:260:05:28

cos it's going to have the horns on it.

0:05:280:05:30

Now, I've pre-cut the horns, and I've doubled them up,

0:05:300:05:34

cos they need to be quite strong,

0:05:340:05:36

cos they're going to hold the rings, and I've put some double-sided

0:05:360:05:39

sticky tape here, to attach them to the back of the head.

0:05:390:05:42

Now, I've folded them here, and close to the tip,

0:05:460:05:48

just to make them look more like horns.

0:05:480:05:51

Right, I can start sliding them on to the bull's head.

0:05:510:05:54

Now, it's good to start with the front one, because it holds the

0:05:540:05:57

whole thing together and keeps it stiff, so you can get the others on.

0:05:570:06:00

Just slide the next one on like that.

0:06:020:06:06

There.

0:06:060:06:08

The ears...

0:06:080:06:10

and now, the horns.

0:06:100:06:12

The horns on.

0:06:130:06:15

Let's see how it's working.

0:06:170:06:19

Right, let's hang it up. Oh, look at that!

0:06:190:06:22

It's time to play!

0:06:220:06:24

I've made some hoops out of card by drawing around a bowl and

0:06:240:06:27

cutting out the middle.

0:06:270:06:28

Ooh!

0:06:290:06:31

Ah! Bull's-eye! Well, bull's horn.

0:06:350:06:39

The bull's head hoopla. Are you game to have a go?

0:06:400:06:44

Hey, you guys!

0:06:470:06:48

This guy is such a creep!

0:06:480:06:50

Have you ever wanted to creep up and play tricks on your mates?

0:06:500:06:55

Told you.

0:06:550:06:56

Now, you can surprise them with this incredible gassy ghost!

0:06:560:07:01

Here's how you make it.

0:07:050:07:07

You'll need two pieces of card, one white and one black,

0:07:070:07:11

and a pair of scissors.

0:07:110:07:13

With care, cut some shapes from the card, two arms from the white,

0:07:130:07:19

eyes and nose from the black.

0:07:190:07:21

Next, you'll need a white plastic bag,

0:07:250:07:29

and some double-sided sticky tape.

0:07:290:07:32

Use the tape to stick the eyes and mouth to the bag.

0:07:330:07:37

Peely-peely, sticky-sticky.

0:07:380:07:40

Stick the arms on, too.

0:07:440:07:46

Now you need a white balloon.

0:07:480:07:50

Inflate said balloon, but do not tie it. Careful now!

0:07:530:07:58

Don't let go of that balloon.

0:07:580:08:00

Put the balloon inside the bag while holding the end.

0:08:000:08:04

It now looks like a scary ghost. It's very convincing.

0:08:040:08:09

The gassy ghost!

0:08:090:08:11

Why don't you make one, and let one go!

0:08:110:08:14

They'd be good to cover up your own bottom burps.

0:08:150:08:18

I'll have to get me some of those.

0:08:180:08:20

Urgh!

0:08:200:08:21

I'm pretty sure that picture moves on its own.

0:08:230:08:25

It's almost as if it's animated.

0:08:250:08:28

This is my friend, Dan.

0:08:300:08:32

He's been cultivating a pretty impressive beard. Nice!

0:08:320:08:38

So fluffy! Hang on, Dan! What are you doing?

0:08:380:08:40

Are you some kind of cunning beard peeling spy?

0:08:400:08:44

Oh, no, my mistake. It's just an animation!

0:08:440:08:48

A hairy one.

0:08:480:08:50

So, to make this awesome animation,

0:08:500:08:52

all you're going to need is some wool or thread,

0:08:520:08:54

some clippers, a tablet, a pen and paper,

0:08:540:08:58

and a beardy friend, who's willing to be shaved.

0:08:580:09:01

And you can make this animation in just three ninja moves.

0:09:010:09:05

Ninja move number one.

0:09:050:09:07

I'm going to start by drawing myself some storyboards.

0:09:070:09:09

The whole point of doing them is to plan out what you're going to do.

0:09:090:09:12

I reckon you'll have, like, your hand up there,

0:09:120:09:15

and I think we'll cut as you start pulling,

0:09:150:09:17

and go to a nice, sort of, head-on shot as the beard unravels.

0:09:170:09:21

When was the last time you actually took your beard off?

0:09:210:09:24

-Are you feeling confident?

-I love it.

0:09:240:09:26

I'm feeling confident. Right. Let's do it.

0:09:260:09:29

Ninja move number two.

0:09:290:09:30

As Dan's going to be our animation model,

0:09:300:09:32

it's really important that he stays really still in between our frames.

0:09:320:09:36

Isn't that right, Dan?

0:09:360:09:38

I said, "Stay still." Perfect!

0:09:380:09:41

Then, you need to get a bit of wool, or whatever you're using,

0:09:410:09:43

and hide it inside the beard.

0:09:430:09:47

I'm going to animate Dan coming in and pulling this thread out.

0:09:480:09:51

We're going to have it go across his face, and we're going to shave

0:09:510:09:54

the space behind it, to make it look like the beard's unravelling.

0:09:540:09:58

If you're going to be using clippers,

0:09:590:10:01

it's probably a good idea that you get some adult supervision.

0:10:010:10:04

It's OK for us, cos we're, believe it or not, both adults.

0:10:040:10:08

Ninja move number three.

0:10:080:10:10

As your model's beard unravels,

0:10:100:10:12

you need to capture all your frames on your tablet device.

0:10:120:10:15

I'm using a free animation app.

0:10:150:10:17

Just search around and find one that you like.

0:10:170:10:19

If I look at my storyboard, my first shot is

0:10:190:10:21

kind of a three-quarters on the side of Dan's face.

0:10:210:10:24

Make sure you only shave a willing family member or friend,

0:10:300:10:34

otherwise, you and me will both be in a hairy situation.

0:10:340:10:38

So, now it's to that point, I think.

0:10:400:10:42

OK, Dan. We're all done. And you look good, though.

0:10:470:10:50

You look nice. Yeah.

0:10:500:10:51

Anyway, I've compiled all the frames.

0:10:510:10:54

I think it's time for us to take a look at our mini masterpiece.

0:10:540:10:57

Ow! Beardy-weirdy!

0:11:080:11:11

Time for some decorating, I think.

0:11:140:11:16

Ah! Right then, flat, let's make you look slick.

0:11:170:11:21

Where should I start painting?

0:11:210:11:24

Oh! Ah!

0:11:240:11:28

Didn't clean my brushes. All stuck together.

0:11:280:11:32

I can't use these.

0:11:320:11:33

And if I can't use the brushes,

0:11:330:11:35

the only way I'm going to decorate this flat

0:11:350:11:38

is with a spot of wallpapering.

0:11:380:11:40

I'll be right back.

0:11:400:11:41

Well, that didn't go too well.

0:11:490:11:51

Wallpaper's not exactly on the wall.

0:11:510:11:54

I look like a mummy. Do you know what?

0:11:540:11:57

I've got an idea how I could fix this. Ah!

0:11:570:12:01

Ah!

0:12:010:12:02

Just as scary as a mummy is a ghost, so I'm going to make myself some

0:12:020:12:08

ghostly wallpaper using a technique known as tessellation.

0:12:080:12:13

-Yo, Ricky!

-Who are you?

0:12:130:12:15

I'm the famous artist, Maurits Cornelis Escher,

0:12:160:12:19

but you can call me MC. When it comes to rapping, I have the key.

0:12:190:12:23

It's not just rapping, dancing and popping,

0:12:230:12:25

I also like to make art that's interlocking.

0:12:250:12:29

Here's one of Escher's famous interlocking tessellations.

0:12:290:12:33

Tessellation is an interlocking pattern,

0:12:330:12:35

and I'm going to make some using a little piece of card here.

0:12:350:12:39

I'm going to start drawing my ghostly shapes on it.

0:12:390:12:42

I need to make sure that the shapes link up perfectly with

0:12:420:12:44

three of the corners.

0:12:440:12:46

That's three of the corners.

0:12:460:12:48

I need to cut those shapes out.

0:12:500:12:51

I need to be careful now, because these shapes need to interlock.

0:12:510:12:55

Also, I need to be careful, because these scissors are quite sharp.

0:12:550:12:59

So, here, all of these shapes perfectly fit together.

0:13:000:13:04

I'm going to take this one over the other side,

0:13:040:13:07

and when that happens, we start to create the shape of the ghost, see?

0:13:070:13:10

His head's here, there's his other arm coming up,

0:13:100:13:12

and then this one here is going to come down to the bottom,

0:13:120:13:15

but then we're going to flip it.

0:13:150:13:16

And this means that our first set of ghosts are going to be

0:13:160:13:19

facing one way, and then our next layer down,

0:13:190:13:22

those ghosts will be facing the other way.

0:13:220:13:24

It makes your picture more dynamic.

0:13:240:13:26

Using some sticky tape, make sure your pieces join up

0:13:260:13:29

in the right places.

0:13:290:13:31

Now we've got our first ghost template shape,

0:13:350:13:38

we can now get a big piece of paper, and start drawing round the shape.

0:13:380:13:43

Thankfully, there's a nice big line running down the side of our ghost,

0:13:430:13:46

and we can use that as a guide to line him up with the paper.

0:13:460:13:49

Just for the first one.

0:13:490:13:50

Whoa! Perfectly interlocks. That's a good sign.

0:13:540:13:59

And notice here that also it interlocks here, too.

0:14:020:14:05

Now I'm going to come down and do the second line,

0:14:100:14:12

and you can see here, it doesn't fit in,

0:14:120:14:14

because we turned the bottom round,

0:14:140:14:16

and that's so we can make a more interesting picture here.

0:14:160:14:19

We can have these ghosts facing that way,

0:14:190:14:21

and those ones facing that way.

0:14:210:14:24

You don't have to do a ghost.

0:14:240:14:26

You can try any shape, or anything you think of.

0:14:260:14:28

It's best to keep the shape quite simple,

0:14:280:14:30

because, otherwise, the interlocking can get a bit tricky.

0:14:300:14:34

I'm just finishing up the bottom here,

0:14:340:14:36

to make sure the pattern continues off the page.

0:14:360:14:39

Using a thick black pen,

0:14:390:14:41

I'm drawing just inside the pencil on some of them.

0:14:410:14:44

You'll see why later.

0:14:440:14:46

I've missed this one out here,

0:14:460:14:48

and I'm going to jump on to the one afterwards and do the same.

0:14:480:14:50

I'm also adding facial expressions to them.

0:14:500:14:53

Draw the faces in of the other ghosts, and I'm not going to fill

0:14:570:15:00

in the mouths on this one, cos I'm going to paint this guy black.

0:15:000:15:03

You may not be able to see the tessellation yet,

0:15:070:15:09

but when I start painting, it will reveal itself.

0:15:090:15:13

As some of them are white and some of them are black, I'm only going to

0:15:130:15:16

paint every other one, the ones that I haven't done an outline for.

0:15:160:15:20

OK, I've marked each one that I need to paint, by throwing a big

0:15:200:15:23

bit of black paint in the middle.

0:15:230:15:25

I need to be careful, and only paint up to the pencil lines.

0:15:250:15:28

Obviously, when you're doing yours at home, it would be good

0:15:370:15:40

to put some paper down.

0:15:400:15:42

This black and white effect, like this kind of checker-boarding,

0:15:430:15:46

really helps to emphasise the tessellation effect.

0:15:460:15:49

My last ghost. Right.

0:15:490:15:52

If you do one of these, you have to wait for it to dry,

0:15:520:15:55

but I'm going to use my ninja skills.

0:15:550:15:57

I'm going to add the same lines as I've done on the white ghosts

0:15:580:16:01

on to the black ghosts with a white pencil.

0:16:010:16:04

I think I'm done.

0:16:090:16:11

What do you think of my tessellation picture then, MC Escher?

0:16:110:16:14

A few more pictures just like that,

0:16:140:16:16

you'll have new wallpaper for your flat.

0:16:160:16:19

Wallpaper tessellation inspired by MC Escher.

0:16:190:16:22

Why don't you get stuck in?

0:16:220:16:24

At least I no longer look like a mummy.

0:16:240:16:26

PHONE RINGING

0:16:260:16:27

Speaking of Mummy...

0:16:270:16:29

Hi, Ricky!

0:16:320:16:33

I suppose you're too busy to answer the phone to your mum, are you?

0:16:330:16:37

Yeah, I am. Glue everywhere. Blame Escher!

0:16:370:16:40

Well, you won't blame me for telling you what's coming up.

0:16:400:16:43

You're on a roll with a temporary tattoo...

0:16:430:16:46

Oh, look at that!

0:16:460:16:47

..you'll sketch a scary character...

0:16:470:16:51

and you'll be helping Sarah with some painting!

0:16:510:16:54

You'd better get on with it.

0:16:540:16:56

I know you, Ricky, I bet you haven't even drawn the curtains yet.

0:16:560:16:59

Bye!

0:16:590:17:00

I've only got blinds.

0:17:000:17:03

And I can draw more than the curtains.

0:17:030:17:05

Mum can sometimes be a scary character,

0:17:050:17:07

but she's a softie at heart.

0:17:070:17:08

Here's a quick art tip of how to draw someone truly scary.

0:17:080:17:12

The best way to draw a scary character is to use pointy shapes,

0:17:120:17:15

so I'm going to start by drawing a face that's

0:17:150:17:17

an upside down triangle shape.

0:17:170:17:19

Then I'm going to add slanty eyes that lean in to the centre.

0:17:190:17:22

This makes him look a lot more mean and angry.

0:17:220:17:25

And you can accentuate that with some eyebrows doing the same thing.

0:17:250:17:29

Then have a pointy nose and ears,

0:17:310:17:35

and then, I think, my scary character's going to be a vampire,

0:17:350:17:38

so I'm going to draw the mouth with some fangs.

0:17:380:17:41

Let's pop some hair in there.

0:17:410:17:43

Then, with the body, I'm going to keep it quite thin and lean.

0:17:450:17:48

He's going to be doing a scary pose, putting his arms in the air.

0:17:480:17:51

Maybe in this pose he's doing a nasty laugh, going...

0:17:510:17:53

LAUGHS

0:17:530:17:55

Going to add some big, scary claws on the end.

0:17:550:17:59

To finish, I'm going to add a pointy collar, bat wings under

0:17:590:18:03

the arms...

0:18:030:18:04

..and a nice big moon, to make his surroundings scary.

0:18:050:18:09

Vampires never come out in the day time.

0:18:090:18:11

There you go.

0:18:110:18:13

A quick art tip.

0:18:140:18:15

Now, try and draw your own scary character.

0:18:170:18:19

It could be shockingly good.

0:18:190:18:21

Yah!

0:18:270:18:28

The thing about being an Art Ninja, is you're ready for anything.

0:18:280:18:32

BOTH: Ricky! Ricky! Ricky!

0:18:320:18:33

Made me jump! What can I help you with?

0:18:330:18:36

BOTH: Ricky, what can you make with a ruler?

0:18:360:18:40

-A ruler? I have to draw the line somewhere.

-BOTH: Oh!

0:18:400:18:44

BOTH: Ricky! What can you make with this?

0:18:440:18:47

That looks interesting. I choose you!

0:18:480:18:51

BOTH: Yay!

0:18:510:18:52

-What are your names?

-I'm Courtney.

-And I'm Kyra.

0:18:520:18:56

Nice to meet you, Courtney and Kyra. Where are you guys from?

0:18:560:18:59

-BOTH: Bristol.

-Bristol? You should've popped in.

0:18:590:19:02

Anyway, what have you got for me?

0:19:020:19:03

BOTH: Can you make art with a cardboard tube?

0:19:030:19:08

Cardboard tube?

0:19:080:19:09

Do you know what, I think I've got some kitchen roll laying around.

0:19:090:19:12

I'll just go and grab one of those.

0:19:120:19:15

I brought myself some glue, some paint, a pot to put it in,

0:19:150:19:18

a little paper plate.

0:19:180:19:20

I'm going to use that for when I'm gluing.

0:19:200:19:22

And, of course, cardboard tube.

0:19:220:19:23

And what I'm going to make with this is a rollable print

0:19:230:19:26

that you can use for a temporary tattoo.

0:19:260:19:29

-Does that sound cool?

-Yeah.

0:19:290:19:31

Awesome. So, I'm going to start drawing my design.

0:19:310:19:34

Draw it on this little bit of card here.

0:19:340:19:36

What's a good design? Pirates have a lot of tattoos, don't they?

0:19:360:19:39

-Yeah.

-Yeah. Skull and crossbones, me thinks. Do you guys like pirates?

0:19:390:19:44

BOTH: Yeah.

0:19:440:19:45

Yeah, who doesn't like pirates, eh?

0:19:450:19:48

I'm trying to draw this with an unbroken line, so it all joins

0:19:480:19:53

together in one, and you'll see why when I take it on to the next step.

0:19:530:19:57

For the chin and then, of course, crossbones.

0:19:580:20:02

OK.

0:20:060:20:08

I am going to glue some string along the lines,

0:20:080:20:11

so I can use it to make a print.

0:20:110:20:12

There we go.

0:20:140:20:16

And I'm trying to glue it down to the line that I've drawn,

0:20:160:20:18

to raise it from the paper.

0:20:180:20:21

Good tip is to use a cocktail stick,

0:20:210:20:23

because it stops your fingers getting too sticky.

0:20:230:20:26

So, this little thing here is going to be for decorating your arms,

0:20:260:20:29

but I've spent a lot of the day decorating my flat, or trying to.

0:20:290:20:32

If you could decorate your room any way you wanted to,

0:20:320:20:34

-how would you do it?

-Paint my walls blue.

0:20:340:20:36

Paint it blue? Courtney?

0:20:360:20:38

Paint it orange.

0:20:380:20:40

Would you paint a mural in your room or anything like that?

0:20:400:20:43

-I'd paint moustaches.

-Moustaches? Why's that?

0:20:430:20:46

-I'm obsessed with them.

-Fair enough.

0:20:460:20:48

I've got a giant moustache pillow, as well, if you want to see it?

0:20:480:20:51

Yeah, all right.

0:20:510:20:53

Yeah! Awesome!

0:20:570:20:59

Maybe you could make a temporary tattoo moustache.

0:20:590:21:01

LAUGHS

0:21:010:21:03

Although it would mean printing it on your face.

0:21:030:21:05

You know what, guys? If you're playing outside later, maybe

0:21:050:21:08

you could have a go at the temporary tattoos and impress your mates.

0:21:080:21:12

Excellent. It's dried quite quickly. And there we are.

0:21:120:21:15

-Look at that. You see how it's raised?

-That's wicked.

-Whoa!

0:21:150:21:18

Right, the next stage is to attach it to the tube.

0:21:180:21:22

So, I'm just going to roll it round like that,

0:21:220:21:26

and hold it in place with a little bit of sticky tape.

0:21:260:21:29

And I'm doing this so that it's easier to apply the prints.

0:21:290:21:33

I'm only going to do it up one end.

0:21:330:21:35

If I do it in the middle, it'll be harder to roll, so, there,

0:21:350:21:38

I can hold on to this end when I want to apply it on this side.

0:21:380:21:41

See that now? So we can roll it on.

0:21:440:21:47

Now, I'm going to paint on to the strings.

0:21:470:21:50

And the paint I'm using is poster paint,

0:21:500:21:52

which means it won't harm your skin, and it washes off.

0:21:520:21:55

I've got my paint here.

0:21:550:21:57

And I'm going to pat it on to the string.

0:21:590:22:01

See how the raised string takes the poster paint.

0:22:030:22:07

You could do this any colour you wanted to.

0:22:070:22:09

You could obviously do it blue, or orange,

0:22:090:22:12

but I want it to be quite dark and pirate-y, so I'm doing it black.

0:22:120:22:16

Making sure every single little bit of the string's covered.

0:22:160:22:19

Right, think it's ready to print. Wish me luck!

0:22:190:22:22

Good luck!

0:22:220:22:24

Here we go.

0:22:240:22:25

Oh, look at that! Do you guys want to see it?

0:22:330:22:37

-Yeah.

-OK, here you go.

0:22:370:22:39

-BOTH: Wow!

-Is that a good tattoo?

0:22:410:22:44

-Yeah.

-Pretty good, eh?

0:22:440:22:45

And the good thing about a temporary tattoo is that

0:22:450:22:48

I can wash it off and try a new design tomorrow.

0:22:480:22:50

What do you guys give it out of ten?

0:22:500:22:52

BOTH: We give it a ta-two.

0:22:520:22:54

Ta... Oh, a ta-two.

0:22:540:22:57

Well, I give you a seven-and-a-half for your joke.

0:22:570:23:01

Thank you very much for your suggestion. You've been awesome.

0:23:010:23:04

-BOTH: Thanks, Ricky!

-Cheers then. Bye-bye!

-BOTH: Bye!

0:23:040:23:08

Why don't you design your own temporary tattoo, too?

0:23:080:23:11

PHONE RINGING

0:23:110:23:13

Ah, it's my mate, Sarah.

0:23:130:23:18

Hey, Sarah! What's that?

0:23:180:23:20

You want me to come to your flat and help do some painting?

0:23:200:23:24

Her flat's a right tip. It could do with a lick of paint.

0:23:240:23:27

Yeah, yeah, sure, I'd love to.

0:23:270:23:28

I've been trying to do it in my flat anyway.

0:23:280:23:31

Cool. I'll see you later.

0:23:310:23:32

Oh, no, but my paint brushes are all stuck together.

0:23:340:23:36

I'll have to go and get some new ones.

0:23:360:23:38

Shops are closed now.

0:23:400:23:41

It's the only brush I could find. It'll have to do.

0:23:440:23:46

Off to Sarah's.

0:23:460:23:48

Ninja skills!

0:23:530:23:55

Ooh! A note from Sarah.

0:23:550:23:58

"Dear Ricky. I've had to pop out. Please start painting without me."

0:23:580:24:03

This is going to take some doing. Going to have to get some help.

0:24:050:24:08

Hi, Gavin. Yeah, bit of an emergency.

0:24:090:24:12

I'm a ninja down. Could you come quick, please?

0:24:120:24:14

-It'll be really...

-Hello, mate!

0:24:140:24:16

-Hi, dude! That was quick.

-Always happy to help, buddy.

0:24:160:24:18

Right. Basically we've got to paint this place with this.

0:24:180:24:23

-Wow!

-Mm-hmm.

0:24:230:24:24

I don't think we're going to be able to do this, mate.

0:24:240:24:27

Let me check my pockets, see if there's anything for inspiration.

0:24:270:24:30

Got this.

0:24:320:24:34

-A balloon?

-Yeah.

0:24:340:24:36

Have you got any more of those?

0:24:360:24:38

Yeah, about 400 more, I think.

0:24:380:24:40

It gives me a rad idea.

0:24:400:24:41

But first, let's get our ninja on.

0:24:410:24:44

Art Ninja!

0:24:520:24:54

Art Ninja.

0:24:550:24:56

OK, Gavin, let's do this.

0:24:590:25:01

Do what?

0:25:010:25:03

Balloon, paint, this.

0:25:030:25:05

Sweet!

0:25:070:25:09

Wow, I think this looks incredible.

0:26:180:26:21

I think Sarah's going to absolutely love this!

0:26:210:26:23

Love it? She's going to go wild for it!

0:26:230:26:25

SHE SCREAMS

0:26:290:26:32

What have you done to my flat?

0:26:320:26:35

Do you like it? We've painted it for you.

0:26:350:26:37

Just like you asked.

0:26:370:26:38

I wanted a painting to go on my white wall, not painted.

0:26:380:26:43

I'm sorry, Sarah. I promise we'll clear it all up.

0:26:430:26:47

And it better be done by the time I get back!

0:26:470:26:50

Anyway, sorry, Ricky, I've got to go. I've got a hair appointment.

0:26:500:26:54

I can't believe he's given me the brush off.

0:26:570:27:01

This is going to take me ages.

0:27:020:27:04

I'd better get my teeth into it.

0:27:050:27:07

Well, I did it. Sarah's flat is restored to its former glory,

0:27:180:27:22

and Sarah did get a piece of art.

0:27:220:27:23

I sent her our film of it as video art.

0:27:230:27:26

Today has taught me a valuable Art Ninja lesson.

0:27:260:27:30

If you're asked to paint a mate's room,

0:27:300:27:32

it's not always best to use a balloon.

0:27:320:27:35

Hang on! I forgot to brush my teeth.

0:27:400:27:43

HE SCREAMS

0:27:470:27:50

To get your Art Ninja on, go to the CBBC website. Ninja skills!
