I just remember being so excited to be on a movie set. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:51

What do you think? This is awesome! My very own movie cloud. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:30
If you want to know how to make your own movie cloud, watch this. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:35
Cloud, take me away. Mmmmm! | 0:01:35 | 0:01:39
Introducing Mr Mike Tucker, here to show you how to create | 0:01:39 | 0:01:43
special effects Hollywood-style in The Secrets Of Movie-Making. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:47
Today, we're going to show you how to make your very own movie clouds, | 0:01:49 | 0:01:53
so grab a couple of friends and let's get started. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
This week, we're going to do stormy skies and clouds. | 0:01:55 | 0:01:59
This effect is a really impressive one and, | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
if you've ever seen Close Encounters of the Third Kind, you'll know why. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:05
You'll need a fish tank, a jug, water and saltwater, milk, | 0:02:05 | 0:02:10
pegs and some black bin liners. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
OK. Step one is to get our saltwater into the tank | 0:02:12 | 0:02:18
and fill it up to a layer where we want our cloud to happen. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:23
Step two. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:24
We need to make sure that the two types, | 0:02:24 | 0:02:27
the saltwater and the fresh water, don't mix, | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
so we're going to use a bit of bin liner to help separate the two. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:34
-Just clip it to the edge of the tank. -Step three. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:38
Carefully start pouring the fresh water in on top of the plastic. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:43
-Step four. -Right, we now need to do the tricky bit, | 0:02:43 | 0:02:46
which is get the plastic out without disturbing the two layers of liquid. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:50
So, we need to try | 0:02:50 | 0:02:52
and slide this plastic out over the top of the water. | 0:02:52 | 0:02:56
Right. | 0:02:56 | 0:02:57
-That's what we call an inversion layer. -Step five. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:03
Now we've let that settle a little bit, | 0:03:03 | 0:03:05
we need to get our milk in there. | 0:03:05 | 0:03:08
Now, pour it in from one end, | 0:03:08 | 0:03:12
quite slowly, in a stream, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:16
and then see what happens when it starts to hit... | 0:03:16 | 0:03:19
-Wow! -You'll now see that the clouds are travelling between the saltwater | 0:03:20 | 0:03:26
and the fresh water. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:27
-Wow. -It really looks like clouds. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:30
Step six. | 0:03:30 | 0:03:31
You can create a background by sticking a drawing | 0:03:31 | 0:03:34
or photo behind the fish tank, | 0:03:34 | 0:03:36
or you can just make a background with one of your own bin liners. | 0:03:36 | 0:03:39
We can clip in place with our pegs... | 0:03:39 | 0:03:43
OK, so, if you come down low, so you're looking up at it, | 0:03:43 | 0:03:46
try and avoid seeing your reflection. | 0:03:46 | 0:03:48
And start to get really fancy. | 0:03:51 | 0:03:53
You could add food colouring into the milk, | 0:03:53 | 0:03:56
in which case you'll get coloured clouds. | 0:03:56 | 0:03:59
And if that isn't enough for you, try this. | 0:04:00 | 0:04:03
By taking something like a torch, | 0:04:03 | 0:04:05
you can start getting things like lighting effects. | 0:04:05 | 0:04:08
Oh, wow! | 0:04:08 | 0:04:09
Thunder! | 0:04:09 | 0:04:11
And that's how you make your very own movie clouds. | 0:04:11 | 0:04:14
Imagine you've made your first film. What was it like? | 0:04:19 | 0:04:22
One word that sums up making my first film is excitement. | 0:04:22 | 0:04:27
It changed my life because I got paid. | 0:04:27 | 0:04:29
I just remember being so excited to be on a movie set | 0:04:29 | 0:04:34
because it's not something you really get to experience very often. | 0:04:34 | 0:04:38
I was shocked actually at the size and the scale of the production. | 0:04:38 | 0:04:42
There are so many different people. | 0:04:42 | 0:04:44
-Loads of cameramen and it was really, like.... -Whoa! | 0:04:44 | 0:04:48
-Props. -Grips. -Like that. | 0:04:48 | 0:04:51
-Lighting crew. -Art department. | 0:04:51 | 0:04:53
-Sound operators. -It was enormous. | 0:04:53 | 0:04:55
Runners, everybody. | 0:04:55 | 0:04:56
You look at some of the names on the call sheet on a morning, | 0:04:56 | 0:04:59
just a who's who of the best British acting talent, and you're just | 0:04:59 | 0:05:05
so nervous about making a mistake or messing up in front of these people. | 0:05:05 | 0:05:09
Now, let's head behind the scenes. | 0:05:09 | 0:05:12
ParaNorman. | 0:05:12 | 0:05:13
Peace, man! | 0:05:16 | 0:05:17
As you were, soldier. | 0:05:19 | 0:05:21
Sir, yes, sir. | 0:05:21 | 0:05:23
My name's Sam Fell. I'm an animation director. | 0:05:23 | 0:05:26
Everyone in the real world thinks I'm a freak | 0:05:26 | 0:05:28
and, you know what, maybe they're right. | 0:05:28 | 0:05:30
I'll tell you a secret about Norman. He doesn't just have one face. | 0:05:30 | 0:05:33
He has thousands of faces. | 0:05:33 | 0:05:36
Thousands of faces that give him millions of expressions. | 0:05:36 | 0:05:41
And how that works is, we can take his face off. | 0:05:41 | 0:05:44
And then what we can do is put on other faces, | 0:05:44 | 0:05:48
so this face was from when he was cleaning his teeth. | 0:05:48 | 0:05:53
A thing that gave us | 0:05:58 | 0:05:59
the most incredible range of expressions is that we split | 0:05:59 | 0:06:02
his faces in half, | 0:06:02 | 0:06:03
so we were able to change his mouth | 0:06:03 | 0:06:08
separately from his eyebrows, | 0:06:08 | 0:06:12
and then we had an incredible little team of people painting out | 0:06:12 | 0:06:17
that line, frame by frame, so it looked like one face again. | 0:06:17 | 0:06:21
Hi, my name's Jeff Kinney, | 0:06:24 | 0:06:26
the author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, and I'm a cinemaniac. | 0:06:26 | 0:06:29
Finding the actors was very difficult at first. | 0:06:37 | 0:06:40
We had to start with our Greg. | 0:06:40 | 0:06:42
School isn't even out yet. | 0:06:42 | 0:06:44
Maybe we should come back. | 0:06:44 | 0:06:45
Some of the actors looked a lot like my characters, | 0:06:45 | 0:06:48
like Rowley Jefferson is a really good approximation. | 0:06:48 | 0:06:51
Geronimo! | 0:06:51 | 0:06:53
When you sit people down in a theatre, | 0:06:54 | 0:06:57
you have to change things up to make sure the story really has | 0:06:57 | 0:07:00
an impact, so we did things like added the mother and son dance | 0:07:00 | 0:07:04
to really amp up the conflict between Greg and Rowley. | 0:07:04 | 0:07:07
There was one day on set when something really funny happened. | 0:07:11 | 0:07:13
Zac Gordon did not like being in the swimming pool. | 0:07:18 | 0:07:21
Greg, honey, go help your brother. | 0:07:21 | 0:07:23
Because the water was this off colour | 0:07:23 | 0:07:25
and he was afraid that the kids, the little kids, were peeing in the pool. | 0:07:25 | 0:07:29
-What's so funny? -I'm peeing. | 0:07:29 | 0:07:32
And then, as a joke, | 0:07:34 | 0:07:35
the girl who played Holly Hills threw a candy bar into the pool | 0:07:35 | 0:07:40
and then she said, "There's something in the pool" | 0:07:40 | 0:07:43
and everybody on set just completely freaked out. | 0:07:43 | 0:07:45
It was kind of gross, but it was very funny. | 0:07:45 | 0:07:48
I think there will be a fourth movie. | 0:07:48 | 0:07:51
And I really hope that The Long Haul gets made because it would take us | 0:07:51 | 0:07:54
outside the school environment completely, put the characters | 0:07:54 | 0:07:56
out on the road, it would be a totally different kind of story. | 0:07:56 | 0:07:59
It'd be really fresh. | 0:07:59 | 0:08:01
I think we could get away with keeping the same parents | 0:08:01 | 0:08:04
and maybe even Rodrick, but the kids who played Greg and Rowley in the | 0:08:04 | 0:08:07
first movies, they've grown up, | 0:08:07 | 0:08:08
but Greg is a cartoon character | 0:08:08 | 0:08:11
and he'll stay the same age for ever. | 0:08:11 | 0:08:13
Matthew and James, specialist subject - Fantastic Mr Fox. | 0:08:29 | 0:08:34

released in 2013 about the making of Mary Poppins? | 0:09:14 | 0:09:18
Saving Mr Banks. | 0:09:18 | 0:09:19
It's a jolly what with Mary? | 0:09:19 | 0:09:21
Holiday. | 0:09:21 | 0:09:23
-What song do the sweeps dance to on the rooftops? -Er... | 0:09:23 | 0:09:26
Chim Chim Cher-ee Chim Chim Cher-ee Chim Chim Cher-oo? | 0:09:26 | 0:09:29
Correct answer - Step In Time. | 0:09:29 | 0:09:32
Alisha, specialist subject - Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. | 0:09:33 | 0:09:38
-Who has trouble whistling in the group? -Erm...Russ. | 0:09:38 | 0:09:42

Baseball. | 0:10:04 | 0:10:05
What does Nick have for breakfast after | 0:10:05 | 0:10:07
-he refuses to eat the burnt toast Amy makes? -Er, a biscuit. | 0:10:07 | 0:10:11
What was the reason the shrinking machine started working correctly? | 0:10:11 | 0:10:15
Because Ron hit a baseball...in it. | 0:10:15 | 0:10:20
Alisha, you gave no incorrect answers. | 0:10:20 | 0:10:24
You've conquered the Rock Hard Quiz. | 0:10:24 | 0:10:28
And now the star of Alice in Wonderland, Tron | 0:10:28 | 0:10:31
and Twilight, Michael Sheen, Super Actor! | 0:10:31 | 0:10:37
I am being put to the test. | 0:10:38 | 0:10:40
Can I replicate an accent, do an accent | 0:10:40 | 0:10:45
and convince those judges out there that I am from that place? | 0:10:45 | 0:10:52
This is the Accent Challenge. | 0:10:52 | 0:10:54
In three minutes I'm going to have to learn how to do this accent... | 0:10:54 | 0:10:58
With the help of voice coach Catherine. | 0:10:58 | 0:11:01
Learning an accent is all about brain, ear, mouth connection, | 0:11:01 | 0:11:05
so how often you've heard it, how often has it been in your ear? | 0:11:05 | 0:11:08
I am going to be put up against people doing their natural voice, | 0:11:08 | 0:11:12
what they speak like. | 0:11:12 | 0:11:13
I think Michael is incredibly brave. | 0:11:13 | 0:11:16
In fact, I don't know many actors who would put | 0:11:16 | 0:11:19
-themselves in this position with an accent. -'Hm, tell me about it! | 0:11:19 | 0:11:22
'I have to succeed in two out | 0:11:22 | 0:11:24
'of three voice rounds to win today's challenge. | 0:11:24 | 0:11:27
'The judges will hear two voices on this speaker phone - | 0:11:27 | 0:11:30
'one will be the real accent and the other will be me | 0:11:30 | 0:11:34
'trying to do the accent!' | 0:11:34 | 0:11:36
It's time for The Challenge. | 0:11:36 | 0:11:38
You've done this one before? | 0:11:38 | 0:11:39
Not really, but I've just heard it a bit. | 0:11:39 | 0:11:42
OK. Now, THs, it's halfway between a T-H and a D. It's not quite a D. | 0:11:42 | 0:11:47
-IRISH ACCENT: It's good, Mother. -Yeah, that's it. | 0:11:47 | 0:11:49
-Over the top of the freezing down. -Over the top of the freezing down. | 0:11:49 | 0:11:52
'That's learning time up, so bring on The Challenge!' | 0:11:52 | 0:11:56
Cornfields were yellow. The oats were green. | 0:11:56 | 0:11:59
The hay had been put up in stacks in the green meadows. | 0:11:59 | 0:12:03
The cornfields were yellow. The oats were green. | 0:12:03 | 0:12:05
The hay had been put up in stacks in the green meadows. | 0:12:05 | 0:12:08
I think the first one's real | 0:12:08 | 0:12:10
because it was...it seemed a bit more like the actual person. | 0:12:10 | 0:12:15
'After the first round, there are five votes for voice one | 0:12:15 | 0:12:19
'and only one vote for voice two. | 0:12:19 | 0:12:21
'Whoo-hoo! | 0:12:21 | 0:12:23
'Voice one was me, not the real | 0:12:23 | 0:12:24
'thing, which means the point is mine!' | 0:12:24 | 0:12:26
The hay had been put up in stacks in the green meadows. | 0:12:26 | 0:12:29
'Next up...' | 0:12:29 | 0:12:31
It's Geordie. 'All the way from Newcastle. | 0:12:31 | 0:12:33
'This one's tough.' | 0:12:33 | 0:12:35
-NEWCASTLE ACCENT: -Rusty-looking. -Rusty-looking cook stove. -Very good. | 0:12:35 | 0:12:38
Dorothy lived in the midst of the great Kansas prairies | 0:12:38 | 0:12:42
with Uncle Henry, who's a farmer, and Aunt Em, who's the farmer's wife. | 0:12:42 | 0:12:46
Dorothy lived in the midst of the great Kansas prairies with | 0:12:46 | 0:12:50
Uncle Henry, who was a farmer and Aunt Em, who was the farmer's wife. | 0:12:50 | 0:12:55
I think the first one was a bit, like, over the top. | 0:12:55 | 0:12:58
The second one did sound normal in a way. | 0:12:58 | 0:13:00
'After the second round, they all think the first voice was fake. Argh! | 0:13:02 | 0:13:06
'They were right. Voice two was the real Geordie, so I lose that point.' | 0:13:06 | 0:13:10
Aunt Em was the farmer's wife. | 0:13:10 | 0:13:12
'One round all, but this is for The Challenge.' | 0:13:12 | 0:13:15
Finnish! I've never heard anyone from Finland speak. | 0:13:15 | 0:13:19
Over to you. | 0:13:19 | 0:13:21
The thing is, English is a second language, so that means | 0:13:21 | 0:13:24
they're going to pronounce things they way that it's read. | 0:13:24 | 0:13:27
They're going to pronounce all the Rs because they're in the spelling. | 0:13:27 | 0:13:30
"Dear little girl," you know, | 0:13:30 | 0:13:32
they're all going to be in the spelling. | 0:13:32 | 0:13:34
Once, she gave her a little cap of red velvet, | 0:13:34 | 0:13:37
