The Mysterious Noise Machine Clangers

Planet Earth, our home.

A place we know and love.

But there are mysteries, too.

Things that make us wonder and puzzle.

And out in space, there are also mysteries,

curious sights and sounds to ponder upon,

such as an iron chicken singing to the stars from her nest

hovering above the planet of the Clangers.

Ah, the Iron Chicken is in a musical mood.

SHE CLUCKS A SONG

What a curious thing. It looks like a sort of metal stick.

Now what could that be for?

Maybe the Clangers will know.

SHE PLAYS TUNE

But no, Tiny and Small don't know what it's for.

Still, it was kind of the Iron Chicken to give it to them.

Major Clanger will probably be able to find a use for it.

But no, Major hasn't a clue what it's for either.

It doesn't seem to do anything. Could it be part of something else?

Ah, maybe it is.

Major decides to search amongst all the old

things in the back of his workshop.

CLATTERING

HORN HONKS

Well, well, well.

It looks like the thing the Iron Chicken brought might be

part of this strange thing.

Major needs more room. He wants to take a proper look at it.

Mother's wondering what this strange new object does...

..and Major intends to find out.

CRANKING

Ah! The thing is a perfect fit.

MACHINE MAKES HIGH-PITCHED NOISE

Oh, dear! What a noise.

Granny's gone to get her ear plugs.

MACHINE BUZZES

Interesting... It makes a noise when Tiny gets near to it.

MACHINE'S SOUND WAVERS

And now she's changing the noise without even touching it.

Remarkable!

Fascinating. It seems to be a mysterious noise making machine.

Now, what's the point of that?

MACHINE MAKES HIGH-PITCHED NOISES

Oh, dear. The noise is still too much for Granny.

She wants Major to turn it off.

NOISES CONTINUE

But the thing the Iron Chicken found is stuck in.

Oh, dear. Granny's poor ears!

But Small and Tiny want to play with it some more,

and find out what it really is.

Ah, good idea, Mother.

Small and Tiny can take the thing to the soup wells,

where no-one else has to listen to it.

Down and down they go.

Ah! Now for some fun.

Hello! These Froglets have come to see what all the noise is.

Wow! The Froglets seem to know just what to do.

Small and Tiny think this is very funny.

MACHINE EMITS SHORT, SHARP SQUEAKS

Oh, but it looks like the Soup Dragon doesn't think it's

funny at all.

I don't think the Soup Dragon likes this mysterious noise machine.

Although Baby Soup Dragon seems to like it very much.

MACHINE BUZZES REPEATEDLY

Major's enjoying the quiet.

MACHINE BUZZES

Oh, no!

It looks like the Soup Dragon didn't want Tiny and Small

to play with that noisy thing in the soup wells.

Major doesn't seem very surprised at the news.

MACHINE SQUEAKS

There's only one thing to do. He's going to take the thing outside.

But it looks like Tiny has had an idea.

Tiny is calling the Iron Chicken.

She must come down and see what they've done with the thing

she found.

Ah. The Iron Chicken has spotted the thing

she found sticking out of another thing.

She wants to know what it does.

Major says it's just a silly thing that makes noises.

MACHINE EMITS STEADY HUM

Ooh! That's actually quite pleasant.

Not so harsh on the ears.

Maybe there's a knack to this.

Major is surprised. That sounds rather nice.

MACHINE PRODUCES TUNE

Everyone else agrees.

Tiny is right.

The mysterious noise machine could be a musical instrument. Well!

Who would have thought it?

Major, Mother and Granny want to hear some more.

And now the Hoot planet has arrived.

Oh, look. Major and Mother Clanger are dancing.

Glow Buzzers, too!

Ah, what beautiful music.

Even Granny likes the sound of the machine

when the Iron Chicken plays it.

What a good idea. The Iron Chicken wants to take it home with her.

And the Iron Chicken's very pleased that all

the Clangers are happy for her to have it.

There she goes, back to her nest with the mysterious noise machine.

And what a curious machine it turned out to be.

It just needed the right player to play it,

and turn the noise into music.
