Major's Low-Gravity Backpack Clangers

Planet Earth,

spinning around our sun.

With its wonderful machines and clever devices,

fixing and mending all kinds of problems.

And if we were to fly deep into outer space,

we may find other planets like our own,

where every now and again, there's a problem to sort out, too.

Ah, it's the Clangers' cleaning day.

Looks like Tiny and Small are really enjoying themselves.

Granny Clanger likes to clean from the comfort of her puffball chair.

Very sensible.

Yes, the living cave is sparkling clean.

Oh, spoke too soon, for a dust weave's on the ceiling.

Very unsightly.

Hmm... But how to reach up there?

Ah. Major has an idea.

HE BANGS RHYTHMICALLY

Very curious - and very noisy!

My word! Whatever is he wearing?

Major tells everyone not to worry. His invention is perfectly safe.

Oh, he's asking Small to press the button.

Oh, I say!

Yes, be careful!

Major is very pleased with himself.

This is the first time the ceiling has ever been cleaned.

So, whilst Major cleans, Small and Tiny are off to get soup.

Tiny and Small suggest

the Soup Dragon come and see Major's new invention.

She won't believe her eyes!

Major seems to be getting to grips with his new device.

Tiny and Small were right.

That's a sight the Soup Dragon won't forget in a hurry.

Ah, soup is ready.

How strange. Maybe Major's not hungry.

Oh, dear! Major forgot to make a "down" button.

He's stuck bobbing around the ceiling!

He's very hungry indeed,

and desperately wants to come down to eat.

Oh, Small has an idea.

What's Small up to?

Any colour will do, Tiny.

Ah, she's chosen yellow. Lovely.

Granny thinks it might be cold up there.

Yes, Small is indeed very clever.

Dinner is served.

Major loves his soup and scarf,

but he really wishes he was eating with everyone else.

How can they get him down?

The Froglets are trying to reach Major.

A rescue party, perhaps?

Maybe third time lucky?

Major wasn't expecting that!

Yes, Granny. At least they tried.

Mother's had an idea. Is there anyone who could fly up there?

Hmm...

Tiny's calling for help.

IRON CHICKEN CLUCKS

The Iron Chicken is on her way.

Ah. Major may be stuck, but he's making himself useful.

He makes a terrific ceiling light.

Oh, no! That crack will need filling.

Rock putty - that should do the trick.

Yes, Tiny. Hopefully the Iron Chicken can help Major.

Hello. This plan might just work.

Interesting.

The harder they all pull down, the harder Major's backpack pulls up.

Small seems to have a plan now.

Oh, I see! They're to break Major's fall.

Small says it's safe to drop.

Phew! Major's safely down.

Back where he belongs.

But what of the backpack?

There goes Major's unruly invention.

Sometimes, solving a problem can be tricky,

but the Clangers worked together,

and sorted it out in the end.

And who knows? The backpack may help someone else,

out there, amongst the stars.
