The Strange-Smelling Flower Clangers

Planet Earth. A place full of sights and sounds.

Oh, and smells, of course.

From big powerful smells to light floaty smells

that wander from here to there.

And if we followed our noses out into space,

I wonder what new smells we might find,

perhaps here, down on the Clangers' planet.

Here's Mother Clanger, watering the flowers in her garden.

Hmm...

This flower hasn't opened yet.

But it looks like it's about to.

Would you look at that?

Mother thinks the flower looks wonderful.

Tiny and Small are off for a spot of fishing.

It's certainly a nice day for it.

SHE SNIFFS

Hmm. Tiny can smell something unusual.

HE SNIFFS

HE CONTINUES SNIFFING

The smell is coming from Mother's garden down below.

A rather bad smell at that!

Now, what's Major up to?

Ah! An old bucket with a leaky hole.

That ought to do the trick.

Major is wondering what Tiny and Small are up to.

Only one way to find out.

Here come Tiny and Small on the trail of that peculiar smell.

Ah, the perfect chance for Mother to show off her new flower.

THEY SNIFF

HE SNIFFS

Oh, my! It's Mother's new flower. That's what smells so bad.

SHE SNIFFS

Mother can smell it too, now.

The flower is so pretty, she hadn't noticed.

Oh, dear. Mother is sad that no-one likes her flower.

That's odd...

Mother's garden just got a lot darker.

Yes, something must be blocking the light.

IRON CHICKEN CLUCKS

Ah, there's the Iron Chicken, tidying her nest.

IRON CHICKEN EXCLAIMS

Oh! Watch out.

Where was that sky moo going in such a hurry?

Look! Sky moos. Two of them,

blocking the light to Mother's garden.

And here comes another!

CLUCKING

The Iron Chicken's in a bit of a flap.

The Iron Chicken explains that a sky moo flew past her nest

in a terrible rush and sent her spinning.

THEY SNIFF

Tiny thinks the sky moos like the smell of Mother's new flower.

Major doesn't think that's very likely. The flower smells awful!

SKY MOO SNIFFS

Mother thinks Tiny is right.

The Clangers don't like the smell, but the sky moos might.

Yes, that does make sense.

Well, that's that mystery solved, eh, Major?

Tiny wants to know what's wrong.

She thought Mother would be glad that somebody likes her flower.

Ah.

If the sky moos stay here for good,

Mother's garden won't get the light it needs to grow.

Ah. Small's asking the sky moo to move.

But I don't think that sky moo wants to move.

Small's certainly trying very hard to move the sky moo.

Yes, Major and the Iron Chicken are right. Small does need some help.

And they're going to try and help him.

But the sky moos just won't budge.

Tiny thinks they should carry the flower up to the surface instead.

That'd get the sky moos away from the hole.

Good point, Major.

If they carry the flower through the living cave,

the smell will get everywhere.

Mother thinks there might be another way.

Oh, look - Major's bucket.

Didn't take long for that to come in handy!

Look at that! Small is going fishing after all.

This looks like a very well-organised plan.

Steady... Steady...

Here it comes...

They've done it!

Phew! That was hair-raising stuff.

Yes, Mother's idea was very clever.

Now the sky moos can enjoy the flower without getting in the way.

But Small is worried that the sky moos might never go home, now.

The Iron Chicken thinks she can help with that.

And so, the Iron Chicken carries mother's flower through

the cosmos, en route to the sky moos' planet.

What a nice gift from Mother Clanger.

How funny!

A smell the Clangers didn't like was loved by the sky moos.
