She's made up a new game. It's called Follow Hop's Clues.

That sounds fun.

Hop said if I followed the clues I'd find her,

before it's time to go to Story Corner.

-May I play Follow Hop's Clues, Hip?

It's more fun when you have a friend to play with.

-So, what clues are we looking for?

-I don't know.

-Driver Dan, what's a clue?

-A clue is something unusual.

We need to search for a sign that looks different.

That's different. Driver Dan, look!

There are lots of muddy marks coming from this puddle.

-Yes, I wonder what made them.

-Hop's bounce leaves marks like that.

Maybe these are one of Hop's clues!

Of course. We followed some muddy marks to get here.

-Have you seen anything unusual?

-We haven't seen any muddy marks.

No, we heard something unusual though.

-Hop's bound to go boingy, boingy!

So, Hop must have come this way. I wonder where she's gone now.

-She could have gone that way.

-Or that way!

Look, another muddy puddle! And more muddy marks!

Well done, Hip, let's follow Hop's clues.

I was worried we wouldn't find you in time.

Is everybody settled down and ready to listen?

Yes, Driver Dan, we're ready.

-And all of you? Sitting down comfy and ready to listen?

This story is called Patty's Big Adventure.

and David Plant did the pictures.

At Antarctic Avenue the snow was falling

and in the house Papa was snoring.

"Oh," rang Patty, "this is boring."

She went to call for her friend, Percy.

"Snow isn't boring, it's pretty."

"Come on," called Patty, "let's go somewhere really exciting today."

Percy shook his head.

"I just like playing in the snow with you, Patty," he said.

"Well, I'm off for a really thrilling adventure," said Patty.

She hopped into her boat and sailed away to sea.

After some time, Patty arrived at a beautiful beach.

A friendly lion peeped out of the palms.

"Welcome to Sunshine Street," he called.

"I'm Lionel, King of this town."

"Come on out and I'll show you around."

"Oh, yes, please," said Patty, and she waddled into the jungle.

Soon, Patty had made lots of new friends.

She chatted with the chimps, she bathed with the buffaloes,

she lazed with the leopards

and boogied on the beach with everyone.

"This is the life," said Patty, sipping a cool juice.

What's boogying?

It's dancing, Milly.

As the ice cubes clinked in her cup,

she started to think about icicle pops and frost flakes

and skating and snow fights.

When she thought about Percy going out to play without her,

Patty got a strange feeling in her tummy.

"Maybe it's something you ate," said Lionel.

He took Patty to the doctor who poked and prodded and pronounced...

"You're homesick."

Patty got back into her little boat

and said goodbye to her new friends.

"Bye, Patty. Send us a postcard," waved Lionel.

Back at Antarctic Avenue, everything was just the same.

The snow was still falling and Papa was still snoring.

"Not boring," thought Patty.

"I was wrong, this is exactly where I belong."

The end.

Yippee, that was a very happy ending.
