-It sounded like a bird.

A very special kind of bird.

It's black and white, and it likes shiny things.

A magpie!

Shall we squiggle our own magpie?

What sort of line could we use?

Let's have a look.

It's a zig-zag line.

Have you got your Squiggle Pads

and Squiggle Sticks ready?

Let's get squiggling!

Let's start with the magpie's tail.

We'll need a zig-zag line for that.

I love zig-zag lines!

Squiggle one with me.

What's yours like?

Now let's squiggle a curved line to make our magpie's body.

Curve up...and over her head,

and down...

and round.

Two eyes -

one, two -

and some straight lines for her beak.

We'd better give her some wings.

We can use our zig-zag line again.

And another wing here.

Now all she needs are two little birdy feet.

One...

Two.

And there's our magpie! Would you like to meet her?

Say the magic words with me.

Hello. I'm Molly the Magpie and I love shiny things!

Hello, Molly. I'm Squiglet.

Squiglet, my chicks are about to hatch,

and I need to make sure my nest is extra shiny and pretty

for when they arrive.

Where do you usually find shiny things?

There's a lovely little village in the mountains,

where everything shines. We could look there.

But I'm not sure which way it is.

Don't worry.

We can squiggle it for you.

Have you got your Squiggle Pads

and Squiggle Sticks ready?

Let's get squiggling!

We'll start with the roof of one of the houses in the village.

Ready?

Two straight lines - up...

and down the other side.

Let's use our zig-zag line

to squiggle some sparkly icicles hanging off the roof.

Zig, zag.

Zig, zag.

Zig, zag.

For the rest of the house, go down...

across...

and up.

Let's draw a little door...

..with a round handle,

and a chimney.

Up, across and down,

with some more lines at the top.

Why don't you colour yours in, while I squiggle the rest of the village?

Look!

Can you see the mountains sparkling?

It's all the shiny snow on top.

Oh, yes, they ARE shiny.

But I can't put a mountain in my nest. It's far too big!

Of course!

They are pretty, though.

Oh! What was that?

SQUIGLET GASPS

It's the sun on that icicle.

Oh, it's lovely and shiny! Maybe I could put that in my nest.

Ooh! It's all wet.

Yes. Icicles are made of ice, Molly.

And ice melts and turns into water when it gets warm.

My nest is warm.

It might be shiny, but an icicle is no good.

My chicks will get wet as it melts.

Oh, what am I to do, Squiglet?

Everything here's shiny, but only because it's icy.

Maybe we need to look somewhere else.

I could look everywhere if I'd brought my binoculars.

They help you to see things that are really far away.

No problem.

We can squiggle some binoculars for you.

We can use our zig-zag line for the middle part of the binoculars.

Ready?

Then the same underneath.

We need to squiggle the round parts you look through.

First, a round line here.

And another one here.

Then go straight up,

curve over,

and back down.

And do the same on the other side.

I'm going to colour my binoculars blue.

What colour are you going to make yours?

Finished! One pair of binoculars.

Ooh, lovely! Thanks, everyone.

Now I can see things that are far away,

so I'll be able to spot shiny things for my nest.

Ooh! What's that?

It's silver and shiny!

And just the right size.

Ooh, it looks perfect!

I wonder what Molly could see.

Look at this, Squiglet.

Oh, yes!

It's round, with hands that move,

and it ticks and tocks.

Do you know what it is?

A watch! A lovely shiny watch!

My little chicks will love the sound of that tick-tocking.

That's OK, Reggie. I don't think it was quite right for Molly's chicks.

No. A watch might be shiny and useful for telling the time,

but this one's too loud.

Ha-ha-ha! A rabbit like me needs a loud watch,

so I can find it when it goes missing.

but they did seem to like how shiny that watch was.

Yes. The watch was too loud,

but they still need SOMETHING shiny.
