The show that lifts the lid on what it's really like

to work in the music industry.

But this time, the stakes are even higher for our eight young hopefuls.

The Music Mansion.

The new home of eight more talented young singers and their mums.

I'd just love to be able to get to perform every night.

My dream job is

to be a singer-songwriter.

I can sing jazz, pop, I can rap.

I just want to share my music with people.

I would like to be famous.

Leaving a mark on the world.

Singing is the most important thing in my life.

It's always about the feel of the song, and the emotion.

I've got a really fixed mind-set.

I want to make it big.

With everyone here, it's time to reveal what's at stake.

So as you guys know, last year's champion got to perform

at Radio 1's Big Weekend

on the Introducing Stage.

It was an amazing opportunity,

but this year, there's an even bigger prize up for grabs.

The winner will get to perform at the festival again,

but this time, it will be on the Main Stage

in front of around 20,000 people!

Now I know what the prize is,

I can't wait to get started on the competition!

It's just a dream, really.

This could be like a chance to finally make it.

The prize is absolutely amazing this time,

but it's not something where you can go on stage and just wing it.

They need to be prepared.

Each episode, only three of the kids will get to perform

in an end-of-show sing-off,

and those places can be won in a series of challenges.

But the entire group will be learning the first song

with our music maestro, David Tench.

So, David, we're back,

and starting off with a really, really hard song.

This particular artist is so well-known now,

so to bring their own flavour to this

is going to be quite a challenge,

but, you know, that's what we're here to do. I'm so excited.

because it's kind of like my chance to show what I can do.

because I'm not too familiar with it.

14-year-old Jorja

is a soulful singer

from Hertfordshire,

who is a pop diva in the making.

I like to sing Beyonce, Whitney Houston,

Celine Dion, Mariah Carey.

At the auditions, she blew everyone away performing a Whitney classic.

And her mum has high hopes when it comes to the competition...

I want her to win.

She's going to have to try her best at all times.

..which is an understandable mentality from an Olympic sprinter.

I was an elite athlete.

I ran the 100 metres in 11.27 seconds. Peuw!

She takes everything so seriously

because she wants to win at everything!

For 14, look at her!

Adele's big ballad may be perfectly suited to Jorja,

but it's not everyone's cup of tea.

I think you've got to believe in yourself.

I think it's really important to have an online presence,

because you can make this connection and special bond with your fans.

Practise every single day,

on your instrument or your voice, anything.

Each episode, two of the end-of-show sing-off spots

can be won in a music industry challenge.

Guys, we've got our first message from Lauren.

And it's time for the first.

Having a great voice can get you a long way in the music industry,

but if you want to establish yourself as a serious artist,

it's a big advantage if you can create your own material.

So, your first challenge is all about songwriting.

And today, you're going to be learning from someone

who was in one of the biggest boybands in the world,

but it all happened ten years before any of you were born.

I'm here today to give you some tips on songwriting,

and help you in any way I can if you've got any questions.

-What is it like to be really famous?

Your whole lifestyle changes.

I missed the birth of my daughter.

I was in Hawaii, my friend came in,

he said, "Oh, by the way, you've just had a baby".

I'm like, "Oh, OK."

So, there's lots of sacrifices you make.

What was it like going from a real high,

and then the band breaking up?

It's a complete shock to the system, you know,

going from all that mania and hysteria,

and then all of a sudden it goes really quiet,

and then the quiet can be so loud, it's deafening,

and you've got to prepare for that, as well.

I learned that

if you want to stay up there,

you're going to have to work hard

and make sacrifices.

He even missed his child's birth,

and I think that would have been quite hard for him.

So now, I'm going to give you your challenge.

You'll be put into pairs

to write a song about your mother.

If you told me at that age I've got to write a song about my mum,

I'd be like a rabbit in the headlights!

But they looked really cool.

Songwriters and performers are perfectionists,

and if you're a creative person, you need that outlet,

otherwise, you know, life can be really, really difficult.

So what advice could you give us, as parents, to support our kids?

The key word there is support.

You know, they're going to make mistakes, the same as we did.

God knows I made horrific mistakes in my life!

But just support them and be a bit of a cushion for them, you know?

I'm really happy I won the challenge

cos that means I get to be in

the sing-off and now all I can do

is just smash it.

I became emotionally involved in the song.

That is so mature to be able to write like that.

-She's had my back through some of the toughest times in my career

and if your little stars want to make it in the music industry,

they are going to need you every step of the way.

Sharon's done it for Brook,

but there are mixed feelings about the result.

Obviously I'm a bit disappointed that my mum didn't win

the challenge, but I'm very proud of her.

It was good today, but I felt a lot of pressure for Evan

cos he absolutely loves Adele

and this is a song that he really wanted to sing

and then Brook, obviously, wasn't that fussed.

Mum's just won the challenge.

I didn't really want her to win it.

Brooke didn't really want us to win cos he hadn't practised last night.

It's an Adele song, but I'm not really comfortable with that.

So, it's a reluctant Brook that will be joining Jorja and Luka

in the first end-of-show sing-off in front of the mums.

They will each be performing their own version

of When We Were Young by Adele.

Singing Adele for the first song is very, very big,

and they've kind of been chucked in at the deep end with this song.

Before they take to the stage,

musical director David Tench will be helping them

fine-tune their performances.

You weren't so sure about the song, were you?

No, not really. It's not that I'm not into the song,

it's just that I'm not familiar with it.

So, I know there's been a little bit of drama in the Music Mansion today.

Sharon won the Mum's Challenge,

is a self-taught musician

from Newcastle.

I didn't really have singing lessons or guitar lessons.

I just teach myself off the internet.

# And I can't sweep you off of your feet. #

He would love to follow in the footsteps of his idol.

My biggest inspiration is Ed Sheeran

because he writes songs and he plays guitar.

At the auditions he put on

a standout performance

of Thinking Out Loud.

# People fall in love in mysterious ways. #

But this laid-back singer does have one weakness.

The thing I would like to work on

is getting better without using my guitar.

He's got such a unique approach to music and singing.

He sounds like himself on whatever he does.

It's really awkward when a singer freezes

and then doesn't know the lyrics, but he's so close.

It's tricky, so I think you should keep rehearsing without the paper.

The technical part of it, which is hitting that high note,

It's like you've grabbed the audience's attention

and yet her focus is not quite in it.

but also I find it hard singing in front of my mum because she is...
