CBBC have sent these four magicians into your schools. | 0:00:02 | 0:00:05
They are some of the hottest magicians in the country. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:10
Our magicians went undercover | 0:00:10 | 0:00:12
and they pretended to be supply teachers. | 0:00:12 | 0:00:16
We had secret cameras all over your classrooms | 0:00:16 | 0:00:21
and watched while you had the most incredible lessons. | 0:00:21 | 0:00:25
Our magicians filled whole classes | 0:00:25 | 0:00:28
and shocked them with their spectacular tricks. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:31
But did they come to your school? | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
-I never knew we were going to be on TV. -Did they trick you? | 0:00:33 | 0:00:36
-I'm just so freaked out. -And did you shout..? | 0:00:36 | 0:00:39
Help! My supply teacher is magic, yay! | 0:00:39 | 0:00:43
Hello! | 0:00:43 | 0:00:45
This is Help! My Supply Teacher is Magic and I am Iain. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:50
We've fooled hundreds of you | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
by swapping regular teachers with magicians. | 0:00:52 | 0:00:56
We even secretly film the results | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
with special cameras hidden in the classroom. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:04
We have got way more moves than Jagger. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
MUSIC: "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5 | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
Just one of my moves. | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
We've got loads of other great tricks, like this one. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:13
I've been teaching myself balloon modelling. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:18
I can make a dog. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:19
Check this out, it's pretty... It's pretty impressive. | 0:01:19 | 0:01:23
This balloon's faulty, just play the clips. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:32
Katherine's going undercover | 0:01:33 | 0:01:36
to cause mayhem in this class of year sixes. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
So I'll just pop the seed in the soil. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
-Look, she makes a carrot grow in lightning-quick time. -Look at that! | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
But will she have the class eating out of her hand? | 0:01:43 | 0:01:47
We're going to teach you a magic trick so you can fool your friends. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:51
Grab a pencil and a pack of playing cards so you can join in. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:54
Plus, you've been sending in clips of all your best magic tricks | 0:01:54 | 0:01:58
and later on, I'll be picking my five favourites. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:01
Will you be one of my wannabe wizards? | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
They're not going to believe I made this. I can't even blow it up. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:09
Hi. I made a dog. Woof, woof. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:11
Could you spot a magician pretending to be a supply teacher? | 0:02:12 | 0:02:17
Could you, really? | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
This is John, he's a magical ace. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:22
He's also a bit of a joker. He's gone undercover as a supply teacher. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:26
The hidden cameras are set. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
Is it your school? Is it your class? Let's find out. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:32
John's about to give year five a geography lesson | 0:02:32 | 0:02:36
that's out of this world. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
They know the geography of the classroom as they find their seats, | 0:02:38 | 0:02:41
but none suspect there are hidden cameras everywhere | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
or realise that John isn't a real teacher. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:46
-Good morning, boys and girls. -Hello. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:49
I'm going to give you a lesson on geography. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:51
Now who can tell me where the world is? | 0:02:51 | 0:02:54
-Yes. -In space. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
It's in space, but it's not out there in space, | 0:02:56 | 0:02:59
it's here in space, isn't it? | 0:02:59 | 0:03:00
-Because we're on the earth. -We may be in space, but watch THIS space, | 0:03:00 | 0:03:04
because John's going to make something appear from nowhere. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:08
What do we have on the world? | 0:03:08 | 0:03:09
-Yes? -Countries. -Very good. Lots of countries. | 0:03:09 | 0:03:12
The class is worldly wise, but John's about to | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
turn their world upside down. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
I thought what I'd do, is draw a picture of the whole world | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
so you can see it and you could maybe help me with some of the details. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:24
So, who can tell me first of all, | 0:03:24 | 0:03:26
what else do we have in space apart from the world? | 0:03:26 | 0:03:30
-Yes? -Stars. -Stars, excellent. I'll draw a few stars. | 0:03:30 | 0:03:33
John's drawing on the pad | 0:03:33 | 0:03:34
and he's drawing the class in even further with his trick. | 0:03:34 | 0:03:38
-What else do we have? Yes? -The moon. -I'll draw the moon. | 0:03:38 | 0:03:41
Very convincing, but he's hardly Da Vinci. | 0:03:41 | 0:03:44
Now who can tell me, what shape is the earth? Yes? | 0:03:44 | 0:03:47
-A sphere. -It's round, isn't it? | 0:03:47 | 0:03:50
So we'll draw the world here. We said there were lots of countries, | 0:03:50 | 0:03:53
so I'll see if I can remember all of the countries. | 0:03:53 | 0:03:56
Right at the top here we've got Antarctica, | 0:03:56 | 0:03:58
and underneath Antarctica we've got Greenland, | 0:03:58 | 0:04:01
but it's not green because I've been to Greenland - | 0:04:01 | 0:04:03
it's lots of different colours. | 0:04:03 | 0:04:05
Russia, they speak funny languages in Russia and you can't understand | 0:04:05 | 0:04:08
unless you're Russian... | 0:04:08 | 0:04:10
If there's a world cup for talking, John would win hands down. | 0:04:10 | 0:04:14
We've got Great Britain, that's where we live, | 0:04:14 | 0:04:16
you've got Scotland at the top where they play the bagpipes. | 0:04:16 | 0:04:19
Who needs text books? John's a human joke book. | 0:04:19 | 0:04:22
Europe, Europe's very big and it's got lots of countries in it. | 0:04:22 | 0:04:25
Then you've got America over here, and it's very big and loud | 0:04:25 | 0:04:29
cos it's full of Americans. | 0:04:29 | 0:04:30
And now the world isn't flat like that is it? It's not flat. | 0:04:30 | 0:04:33
-It's not. What shape is the world? You said it earlier. -A sphere. | 0:04:33 | 0:04:38
it's like a ball. Hundreds of years ago, | 0:04:38 | 0:04:40
before mushy peas were invented... | 0:04:40 | 0:04:42
They must suspect he's not a real teacher by now. | 0:04:42 | 0:04:44
..he sailed across, he sailed across the whole world. | 0:04:44 | 0:04:47
The class is all going along with John's unusual lesson, | 0:04:47 | 0:04:50
but they're about to get a shock. | 0:04:50 | 0:04:51
He discovered the world wasn't flat, | 0:04:51 | 0:04:53
he discovered it was a sphere and very heavy, like that. | 0:04:53 | 0:04:56
-Whoa! -Whoa! That made them jump. Can we get a rewind? | 0:04:56 | 0:05:01
And he discovered it was a sphere, and very, very heavy. | 0:05:01 | 0:05:05
-Like that. -Whoa! | 0:05:05 | 0:05:07
And look, this is the amazing thing, it's vanished from space. | 0:05:07 | 0:05:11
-Wow! -Isn't that weird? | 0:05:11 | 0:05:14
APPLAUSE Now... | 0:05:14 | 0:05:17
An earth-shattering trick. | 0:05:17 | 0:05:18
Time for our supply teacher to reveal he's from the world of magic. | 0:05:18 | 0:05:21
-Do you want me to show you how I did that? -Yes. -I'm not really a teacher. | 0:05:21 | 0:05:26
-They cannot believe it. -I'm a magician. | 0:05:26 | 0:05:29
-Ah! -I know. And this isn't really a lesson. | 0:05:29 | 0:05:32
We're actually filming this for a BBC show | 0:05:32 | 0:05:34
called Help! My Supply Teacher is Magic, | 0:05:34 | 0:05:37
and there's cameras all around filming you. | 0:05:37 | 0:05:40
There's a camera in that box, over there and at the back | 0:05:40 | 0:05:44
and there's a camera over here | 0:05:44 | 0:05:47
and you're all going to be on television. | 0:05:47 | 0:05:49
CLASS CHEERS | 0:05:49 | 0:05:51
He did it! John's brilliant trick has totally fooled the class. | 0:05:51 | 0:05:55
These teachers at school are kind of boring, | 0:05:55 | 0:05:57
so if he is a teacher and a magician at the same time, | 0:05:57 | 0:06:00
we'll want to go to school every day. | 0:06:00 | 0:06:03
First, John drew his funny version of the world on a pad. | 0:06:03 | 0:06:07
You've got Scotland at the top, where they play the bagpipes. | 0:06:07 | 0:06:11
I was amazed because he made like, just paper | 0:06:11 | 0:06:14
turn into this plastic globe, world, so it was scary. | 0:06:14 | 0:06:20
Then he made the round globe appear from the flat pad. | 0:06:20 | 0:06:24
-Whoa! -And when he opened the pad, | 0:06:24 | 0:06:26
his drawing of the world had disappeared. | 0:06:26 | 0:06:29
What is he going to do next? | 0:06:29 | 0:06:31
Is he going to make his head come off? | 0:06:31 | 0:06:34
John pulled it off. Not his head. The class had no idea | 0:06:34 | 0:06:37
he was a magician. Would you realise your supply is magic? | 0:06:37 | 0:06:42
Help! My supply teacher is magic! Yay! | 0:06:42 | 0:06:46
I have my own version of that trick. Watch this. | 0:06:46 | 0:06:50
Do you know what that is? | 0:06:55 | 0:06:57
That's a drawing of a sheet of paper. Watch this. | 0:06:57 | 0:07:00
Where did that come from? | 0:07:02 | 0:07:04
Later on, Katherine will also be going undercover | 0:07:04 | 0:07:06
as a supply teacher. | 0:07:06 | 0:07:08
She'll make this class' jaws drop to the floor. Is it your class? | 0:07:08 | 0:07:13
Wow, look at that! | 0:07:13 | 0:07:14
Of course, Katherine's not a real teacher, | 0:07:14 | 0:07:17
nor is the extraordinarily smooth magician, James. | 0:07:17 | 0:07:20
He's going to teach you the secret behind a trick | 0:07:20 | 0:07:22
you can use on your mates to blow their minds. | 0:07:22 | 0:07:25
If you fancy yourself as a magician, | 0:07:29 | 0:07:32
here's a trick you can try on your mates. | 0:07:32 | 0:07:34
You'll need a pencil and six cards. | 0:07:34 | 0:07:36
If you haven't got them already, go and get them now. Go on! | 0:07:36 | 0:07:40
Quick, hurry! In the meantime, James will wait for you here. | 0:07:40 | 0:07:43
Are you back? Ready? Good. | 0:07:43 | 0:07:45
Do you know how to lift the six cards using the pencil? | 0:07:45 | 0:07:49
Can you work it out? | 0:07:49 | 0:07:50
Keep watching and you'll find out later in the show. | 0:07:50 | 0:07:54
Right now, though, sneaky Katherine's in a theme park | 0:07:54 | 0:07:58
to do a trick you'll never be able to work out. | 0:07:58 | 0:08:01
I'm going to show you something quite cool | 0:08:01 | 0:08:04
with these two elastic bands. | 0:08:04 | 0:08:05
This is Mia, Isabel, | 0:08:05 | 0:08:07
Emily and Lewis. | 0:08:07 | 0:08:09
They have no idea they're about to star in their own magic show. | 0:08:09 | 0:08:12
Watch carefully. | 0:08:12 | 0:08:14
If you guys could just check them - do they look normal to you? | 0:08:14 | 0:08:17
BOTH: Yes. | 0:08:17 | 0:08:18
They do? OK, I'll have them back. Do you want to have a check? | 0:08:18 | 0:08:22
OK, so you've checked that both of these elastic bands | 0:08:22 | 0:08:25
are perfectly normal | 0:08:25 | 0:08:26
and you're happy with that, yes? ALL: Yes. | 0:08:26 | 0:08:29
I'd like you, Emily, to grab hold of the two middle strands for me | 0:08:29 | 0:08:33
and pinch them in-between your fingers, right in the centre, | 0:08:33 | 0:08:36
and rub, rub your fingers together. | 0:08:36 | 0:08:38
That's perfect. Really, really rub. | 0:08:38 | 0:08:40
And let go. And look at that. Can you see that? | 0:08:40 | 0:08:42
Amazingly, you've linked the two rubber bands together. | 0:08:42 | 0:08:46
Whoa! Emily's linked the rubber bands! How did that happen? | 0:08:46 | 0:08:49
Let's have a rewind. | 0:08:49 | 0:08:51
Rub your fingers together. That's perfect. | 0:08:51 | 0:08:53
Really, really rub. And let go. And look at that. | 0:08:53 | 0:08:56
Amazingly, you've linked the two rubber bands together. | 0:08:56 | 0:08:59
-Can you see that? -Cool. | 0:08:59 | 0:09:01
That is so amazing. | 0:09:01 | 0:09:03
In fact, Lewis, can you grab a hold of this side for me? | 0:09:03 | 0:09:06
That's perfect. Start rubbing them together, exactly the same way, | 0:09:06 | 0:09:10
really, really rub them together. Can you feel anything happening? | 0:09:10 | 0:09:14
-No. -Can you see that? You've unlinked them. | 0:09:14 | 0:09:17
Now Lewis has unlinked them! It gets better! | 0:09:17 | 0:09:20
I'm going to show you what this looks like | 0:09:20 | 0:09:22
without you covering the bands with your fingers. | 0:09:22 | 0:09:25
So if I do it slowly like this and just tap... | 0:09:25 | 0:09:27
one...two... | 0:09:27 | 0:09:30
three. | 0:09:30 | 0:09:31
You can see the band is completely linked together. | 0:09:31 | 0:09:35
-What? -How did she do that? Can I get another rewind? | 0:09:35 | 0:09:39
One...two...three. | 0:09:39 | 0:09:43
You can see the band is completely linked together. | 0:09:43 | 0:09:46
-What? -And there you go, Emily. | 0:09:46 | 0:09:48
-You can keep that as a souvenir. -That's impossible! | 0:09:48 | 0:09:51
Really cool. It looked like it was going to be impossible, | 0:09:51 | 0:09:54
but then when she just did that, it was just really amazing. | 0:09:54 | 0:09:58
Right now, we have something amazing for you. | 0:09:59 | 0:10:02
This is the interactive illusion. | 0:10:02 | 0:10:05
This is a trick where you can take part at home. | 0:10:05 | 0:10:09
So move in a bit closer... Watch the cat, remember last time? | 0:10:09 | 0:10:14
All right, now follow along with Fergus. | 0:10:14 | 0:10:17
His style is playful, his hands are skilful and his hair is awful. | 0:10:17 | 0:10:23
But ignore that, just listen in and get involved. | 0:10:23 | 0:10:26
We're going to do something amazing with these colours. | 0:10:26 | 0:10:31
Start by placing your finger | 0:10:32 | 0:10:34
on any of the colours in the left hand column. | 0:10:34 | 0:10:37
Now spell out the colour you have chosen, | 0:10:39 | 0:10:42
moving one space for each letter. | 0:10:42 | 0:10:44
You can move up, down, left or right, but not diagonally. | 0:10:44 | 0:10:49
For example, if you'd chosen black you'd move your finger five spaces. | 0:10:50 | 0:10:55
B...L... | 0:10:55 | 0:10:58
A...C... | 0:10:58 | 0:11:00
K. | 0:11:00 | 0:11:01 | |
So spell your colour now. | 0:11:01 | 0:11:03
I don't think you're on white, so we'll remove that. | 0:11:09 | 0:11:12
Now move your finger five spaces. | 0:11:14 | 0:11:17
You can only move to a colour, not to an empty space. | 0:11:17 | 0:11:21
Just like before, though, you can move up, down, left or right. | 0:11:21 | 0:11:26
Remember, move five spaces now. | 0:11:26 | 0:11:30
That's great. OK. | 0:11:30 | 0:11:32
So you're not on yellow or blue. We'll get rid of those. | 0:11:34 | 0:11:38
Now move three spaces. | 0:11:40 | 0:11:43
Again, up or down, left or right. | 0:11:43 | 0:11:46
Hmm, you're not on black or brown, so we'll remove them. | 0:11:49 | 0:11:54
I'd like you to move five more spaces. | 0:11:55 | 0:11:59
OK, you're not on purple, are you? | 0:12:03 | 0:12:06
We can get rid of that one. | 0:12:06 | 0:12:08
Finally move one space. | 0:12:08 | 0:12:10
All done? | 0:12:14 | 0:12:15
So you started on a colour and you moved to a random location, | 0:12:15 | 0:12:19
but I know you're on the colour orange. | 0:12:19 | 0:12:23
I'm on orange! Did it work for you? | 0:12:24 | 0:12:26
Have you ever said, "How did he do that?" | 0:12:27 | 0:12:31
Yes, I have. | 0:12:31 | 0:12:32
Every week, we are bringing you a chart | 0:12:32 | 0:12:35
of the magic movers and shakers. | 0:12:35 | 0:12:37
We are calling said chart Wannabe Wizards. | 0:12:37 | 0:12:41
I've got my comfy chair. | 0:12:41 | 0:12:42
I've got my trusty laptop. | 0:12:44 | 0:12:46
And I've got a massive ball of cheesy puffs. | 0:12:46 | 0:12:49
Let's do this. | 0:12:49 | 0:12:50
We asked you to send in clips of yourself | 0:12:50 | 0:12:53
performing your best magic tricks. | 0:12:53 | 0:12:55
We received loads of clips from all over the country. | 0:12:55 | 0:12:59
Each week, I will be choosing my five favourite wannabe wizards | 0:12:59 | 0:13:02
and showing them to you guys. | 0:13:02 | 0:13:04
Number five this time is my man Harry from Billericay | 0:13:04 | 0:13:07
with some crazy card skills. | 0:13:07 | 0:13:09
See what I mean? A deck and nice effects. | 0:13:09 | 0:13:12
It gets better, though! Keep your eye on the ace of spades, | 0:13:14 | 0:13:17
and not on his bare feet. Oh, glad it's not smellovision. | 0:13:17 | 0:13:21
Boom, it's the ten of hearts! But where did the ace go? | 0:13:21 | 0:13:24
That's it in the middle. Awesome. | 0:13:24 | 0:13:26
It's back in the middle and the ten of hearts is still on top. | 0:13:26 | 0:13:30
Quick magic click and now the ace is on top, and guess what? | 0:13:30 | 0:13:34
Yeah, the ten's in the middle. | 0:13:34 | 0:13:36
Harry, you're showing off. Here's something completely different. | 0:13:36 | 0:13:40
It's Sammy from Stanmore. He might be in his back garden | 0:13:40 | 0:13:43
but he's so street with that hat and sick yo-yo moves. | 0:13:43 | 0:13:46
Yeah, I know, strictly speaking, it's not magic | 0:13:46 | 0:13:49
and he's not got the patter, but he lets his quick hands | 0:13:49 | 0:13:52
and his yo-yo do the talking. | 0:13:52 | 0:13:54
All I could ever do with a yo-yo was walk the dog, so I am impressed. | 0:13:56 | 0:14:00
Watch this with the string. | 0:14:00 | 0:14:02
If that was me, I'd get it knotted right up. | 0:14:02 | 0:14:05
Nice catch. He hasn't caught number three. It's Evan from Harrow. | 0:14:08 | 0:14:12
He's going to have you in total suspense. | 0:14:12 | 0:14:15
He's picked up some rubbish - it's an old receipt. | 0:14:17 | 0:14:19
The trick coming up is so good you won't want a refund. | 0:14:19 | 0:14:23
He's scrunching it back up, | 0:14:23 | 0:14:25
but he's not going to put it in that wheelie bin behind him, | 0:14:25 | 0:14:28
oh, no. This scrap of paper is about to be recycled into a magic trick. | 0:14:28 | 0:14:34
Get ready, here comes the good bit. | 0:14:34 | 0:14:37
He's putting his spell on it. | 0:14:37 | 0:14:39
Whoa, it's floating in mid-air! | 0:14:39 | 0:14:42
Do you think you know how he does it? | 0:14:42 | 0:14:45
Think again. Watch this. I love this bit. Here we go. | 0:14:45 | 0:14:48
And once more for luck. | 0:14:50 | 0:14:52
This is a kind of floater I don't mind seeing. | 0:14:52 | 0:14:55
Just ahead on points it's Callum from Ibsley. | 0:14:56 | 0:14:59
He's got a pen trick that draws me right in. | 0:14:59 | 0:15:01
OK, watch the point of the pen. Just watch it, watch the point. | 0:15:01 | 0:15:05
Watch the point of the pen, because if I turn it like this, | 0:15:05 | 0:15:08
-it's pointless. -Wow, the pen has swapped ends. | 0:15:08 | 0:15:11
You've got to follow that. It's underneath the cap. | 0:15:11 | 0:15:14
-Where is it? -It's still there. | 0:15:14 | 0:15:15
Wrong, it's not on this side, it's over here. | 0:15:15 | 0:15:18
-Cool. Even he finds it funny. -It's on this side? -Yep. | 0:15:18 | 0:15:20
-You'll want to pay attention. Where is it? This side? -Yep. | 0:15:20 | 0:15:23
-What? You said this side. -No, the other side. | 0:15:23 | 0:15:26
What do you mean, it's on this side? You've got to make your mind up, | 0:15:26 | 0:15:29
-I'm trying to help you. -Sorry, I'm trying! | 0:15:29 | 0:15:31
You've got to watch it - it's going under the cap, | 0:15:31 | 0:15:34
under the cap, watch, watch, watch. It's under the cap. | 0:15:34 | 0:15:37
It's not under the cap. | 0:15:37 | 0:15:38
Whoa, this pen trick is really leaving its mark. | 0:15:38 | 0:15:41
But it's not the end, | 0:15:41 | 0:15:42
he's going to cap it all with one last switcheroo. | 0:15:42 | 0:15:45
I'm just going to give it a shake... | 0:15:45 | 0:15:48
-and it jumps to the bottom. -Top trick. | 0:15:48 | 0:15:51
Who's my favourite, though? I'm not going to tell you yet, | 0:15:51 | 0:15:54
not before I put on my funny chart show voice. | 0:15:54 | 0:15:57
At five, it's Harry the barefoot conjuror. | 0:15:57 | 0:16:00
Spinning higher up the chart at four, it's Sammy. | 0:16:00 | 0:16:05
Floating even higher still, it's Evan. | 0:16:05 | 0:16:10
And the menace with the pen is at number two, it's Callum. | 0:16:10 | 0:16:14
Unless you know where to look, right? | 0:16:14 | 0:16:16
Out of the tons of wannabe wizards, my top one this time was... | 0:16:16 | 0:16:20
Benjy from London with a card trick that's so ace, it's four aces. | 0:16:20 | 0:16:25
I'm going to get the first joker, | 0:16:25 | 0:16:27
put it on the bottom of the pile with the other three jokers | 0:16:27 | 0:16:31
and then all I have to do is just shake and I get an ace. | 0:16:31 | 0:16:35
Whoa, he made that into an ace right in front of our eyes! | 0:16:35 | 0:16:39
-But how? What a joker. -The other three jokers... | 0:16:39 | 0:16:42
He's changed one joker to an ace, but he's not stopping there, | 0:16:42 | 0:16:45
-he's about to do another three. -Just like that. Flick. I get... | 0:16:45 | 0:16:50
Whoa, the second joker changed to the ace of spades | 0:16:50 | 0:16:53
-with a mere flick of his fingers! -So I get this joker... | 0:16:53 | 0:16:56
-OK, now time for the last two. -And just with a shake... | 0:16:56 | 0:16:59
Whoa, you see that? The third joker became an ace with a nifty shake. | 0:16:59 | 0:17:05
And the final joker - there's a twist. Literally. | 0:17:05 | 0:17:08
I get the ace of hearts. | 0:17:08 | 0:17:12
It's the ace of hearts and I heart that trick. | 0:17:12 | 0:17:15
Can't wait until next time for more Wannabe Wizards. | 0:17:15 | 0:17:20
It's time now, though, for a bit of classy magic from me. | 0:17:20 | 0:17:23
Yes, the moment you've all been waiting for - thimble magic. | 0:17:23 | 0:17:27
MOBILE RINGS | 0:17:27 | 0:17:30
Hello, Mum? look. I'm in the middle of a trick. | 0:17:32 | 0:17:34
Have I seen your red thimble? No. | 0:17:36 | 0:17:40
You're darning my socks? | 0:17:42 | 0:17:44
Sorry, gang, here's what's coming up. | 0:17:45 | 0:17:47
Have you worked out the secret to James' challenge? | 0:17:47 | 0:17:50
If you haven't got a pencil and playing cards, go and get them now. | 0:17:50 | 0:17:53
Go on, hurry! And watch what happens when Katherine | 0:17:53 | 0:17:57
goes undercover in another school. | 0:17:57 | 0:18:00
Could it be your class? Could your supply teacher be magic? | 0:18:00 | 0:18:04
In Undercover Magic, we hide cameras in all sorts of places. | 0:18:05 | 0:18:09
Our magicians play tricks on members of the public | 0:18:09 | 0:18:12
who don't know they're being filmed. | 0:18:12 | 0:18:15
Fergus is on this park bench to play a trick on Ludo and Esme. | 0:18:15 | 0:18:18
They're sitting on the park bench opposite Fergus | 0:18:18 | 0:18:21
and they've been set up by their mum. | 0:18:21 | 0:18:23
They have no idea what's about to happen. | 0:18:23 | 0:18:26
Guys, excuse me, sorry, what do you make the time? | 0:18:26 | 0:18:29
It's just after quarter to one. | 0:18:29 | 0:18:31
I've been waiting for a friend for about 25 minutes | 0:18:31 | 0:18:34
and I made a packed lunch and everything, | 0:18:34 | 0:18:36
gone to all this effort, and then he doesn't turn up. | 0:18:36 | 0:18:39
I think I'll just start without him, to be honest. | 0:18:39 | 0:18:43
Fergus has told them a story and got their attention | 0:18:43 | 0:18:46
and now he's about to have a picnic on his own, | 0:18:46 | 0:18:48
but it's a picnic like no other. | 0:18:48 | 0:18:50
Keep your eyes on the lunch box, | 0:18:50 | 0:18:52
can't be room in there for many sandwiches. | 0:18:52 | 0:18:56
A cup of tea? Now, I wouldn't have expected that. | 0:18:57 | 0:19:00
Excuse me, you haven't got any milk, have you? | 0:19:00 | 0:19:03
-Hang on a minute. -No? -No, sorry. | 0:19:03 | 0:19:06
My mistake, sorry. I did pack some. | 0:19:06 | 0:19:09
I'm just so forgetful at the moment. | 0:19:11 | 0:19:13
He's got them amused. | 0:19:13 | 0:19:15
He's really grabbed their attention with that tumbler, | 0:19:15 | 0:19:18
but they haven't tumbled his trick. | 0:19:18 | 0:19:20
A proper teddy bear's picnic but it's not over yet. | 0:19:20 | 0:19:24
This lunch box is like the TARDIS! | 0:19:24 | 0:19:28
I think I forgot a few things. | 0:19:33 | 0:19:35
He's got a full-on cream tea in there - jam, scones, the works. | 0:19:37 | 0:19:41
Nice touch, Fergus. | 0:19:45 | 0:19:47
Do you guys want any, or you all right? | 0:19:47 | 0:19:50
Ludo can't quite believe it, but it's about to step up a gear. | 0:19:51 | 0:19:54
How does he fit a big jug of OJ in there?! | 0:19:56 | 0:19:58
Exactly, mate, how? | 0:20:01 | 0:20:03
Surely that's all, folks? No, there's a flask. | 0:20:03 | 0:20:06
Missing something. | 0:20:07 | 0:20:09
And a vase. | 0:20:12 | 0:20:13
And a huge flower to top it all off. They can't believe it! | 0:20:16 | 0:20:21
Perfect. | 0:20:21 | 0:20:22
First he was just taking out tea cups. | 0:20:22 | 0:20:24
I was like, "You could actually fit cups in there." | 0:20:24 | 0:20:27
But then he took out the orange juice and the vase. | 0:20:27 | 0:20:31
I was like, "What? This is just weird. How does he do that?" | 0:20:31 | 0:20:34
How indeed? | 0:20:34 | 0:20:36
It's the moment you've been waiting for - | 0:20:36 | 0:20:39
a chance for you to learn how to fool your friends. | 0:20:39 | 0:20:41
Me and James challenged you to lift six cards using a pencil. | 0:20:43 | 0:20:47
Come on, have you worked it out? How many of you got it? | 0:20:47 | 0:20:50
Maybe you think it works by poking the pencil through the cards. | 0:20:50 | 0:20:54
Nah. Do you use a magnet? | 0:20:54 | 0:20:57
No way. | 0:20:57 | 0:20:58
How about some glue? | 0:20:58 | 0:21:00
Come on! | 0:21:00 | 0:21:02
You rest one card on each side of the pencil, | 0:21:02 | 0:21:05
leaving a small gap between them, | 0:21:05 | 0:21:08
and one on top of those cards crossways. | 0:21:08 | 0:21:11
And then the same again on the other side. | 0:21:11 | 0:21:14
Then you put the other cards on top again. | 0:21:17 | 0:21:19
Lift it up. Gently does it. | 0:21:19 | 0:21:22
Did you get it? | 0:21:22 | 0:21:24
Are you amazing already? | 0:21:24 | 0:21:26
Now you've got something to show off with when it's play time. | 0:21:26 | 0:21:29
Now it's time for Katherine to fool another unsuspecting class. | 0:21:29 | 0:21:36
She's about to go to another school. | 0:21:36 | 0:21:38
She's going undercover as a supply teacher to do an incredible trick. | 0:21:38 | 0:21:42
Will it be your school? Will it be your class? | 0:21:42 | 0:21:46
Let's find out. | 0:21:46 | 0:21:48
These Year Six pupils think they're coming in for a normal lesson, | 0:21:48 | 0:21:52
but they're wrong. Katherine is far from normal. | 0:21:52 | 0:21:56
The classroom's been planted with hidden cameras | 0:21:56 | 0:21:58
and she's got a trick that will really grow on them very quickly. | 0:21:58 | 0:22:02
Today what we're going to be learning about is sustainability. | 0:22:02 | 0:22:06
The food that we eat every day | 0:22:06 | 0:22:08
and the paper you write on at school | 0:22:08 | 0:22:10
all needs to be replaced, and that is sustainability. | 0:22:10 | 0:22:13
That's when we replace the resources we have so we don't run out. | 0:22:13 | 0:22:17
That's true enough, but she's about to lead them up the garden path. | 0:22:17 | 0:22:21
When I was planning this lesson, I had a look online | 0:22:21 | 0:22:24
and what I found was a very interesting article. | 0:22:24 | 0:22:27
And it was describing something called speed grow powder. | 0:22:27 | 0:22:30
There's no such thing as speed grow powder, it's just part of the trick. | 0:22:30 | 0:22:35
I sent an e-mail and they very kindly sent me over a sample of it, | 0:22:35 | 0:22:38
which I've got here. | 0:22:38 | 0:22:40
These girls haven't seen anything like it. | 0:22:40 | 0:22:43
Now, yesterday, I tried this out at home with a sunflower seed | 0:22:43 | 0:22:47
and I put the sunflower seed | 0:22:47 | 0:22:49
into my airing cupboard with the powder on top | 0:22:49 | 0:22:51
and I left it for only a few moments, | 0:22:51 | 0:22:53
and when I opened up the cupboard door again | 0:22:53 | 0:22:56
I could actually see a fully grown, tall sunflower. | 0:22:56 | 0:22:59
A tall story more like, but they don't suspect a thing. | 0:22:59 | 0:23:02
Obviously, I couldn't bring in my airing cupboard | 0:23:02 | 0:23:05
so I had to find a cupboard in your storage room, | 0:23:05 | 0:23:08
which will do fine and block out all the light. | 0:23:08 | 0:23:10
So I'll just pop the seed in the soil, | 0:23:10 | 0:23:13
and sprinkle some of the speed grow powder on top. | 0:23:13 | 0:23:17
And if we open up the front of the cupboard | 0:23:17 | 0:23:20
and place the pot inside, | 0:23:20 | 0:23:23
we should only really need to leave it for a few moments... | 0:23:23 | 0:23:28
before we see some sort of result. | 0:23:28 | 0:23:32
So let's close the door. | 0:23:32 | 0:23:35
Now, it's very important that no light gets in there | 0:23:35 | 0:23:38
because otherwise the powder won't work. But as I said, | 0:23:38 | 0:23:41
it works really, really quickly, | 0:23:41 | 0:23:43
so I imagine we've probably waited enough time already. | 0:23:43 | 0:23:47
Let's have a look and see what the results are. | 0:23:47 | 0:23:50
I'll just take off the door. | 0:23:50 | 0:23:52
I can't wait for this - the class are about to be blown away. | 0:23:52 | 0:23:55
Look inside. Wow, look at that! CLASS GASPS | 0:23:55 | 0:23:59
Whoa, the seed has grown into a plant in no time at all! | 0:23:59 | 0:24:03
I can't "beleaf" it! | 0:24:03 | 0:24:05
That's grown about... | 0:24:05 | 0:24:06
what would take generally about four weeks in about ten seconds. | 0:24:06 | 0:24:11
OK, so let's put it back in again. | 0:24:11 | 0:24:13
It's already an incredible trick but will it plant the seed of doubt | 0:24:13 | 0:24:16
into the class' head about her magical identity? | 0:24:16 | 0:24:19
See how much it grows again. | 0:24:19 | 0:24:21
Seal up the front of the door. | 0:24:23 | 0:24:24
Now, has anyone ever heard of fertiliser before? | 0:24:24 | 0:24:28
You have. And who knows what it does? Yes. | 0:24:28 | 0:24:30
It does, yeah, yes. | 0:24:33 | 0:24:35
Remember, don't play with fertiliser at home. | 0:24:35 | 0:24:38
It's supposed to help stuff grow, exactly. | 0:24:40 | 0:24:42
And this is exactly what the powder does, | 0:24:42 | 0:24:45
but it does it much more effectively and much faster. | 0:24:45 | 0:24:48
So let's have a look and see if it's worked again. | 0:24:48 | 0:24:52
Open up the front of the door and if we have a look... | 0:24:52 | 0:24:56
ALL: Wow! | 0:24:56 | 0:24:58
Big plant, big reaction! | 0:24:58 | 0:25:00
"Tree" cheers for Katherine, or some other bad plant-related pun. | 0:25:00 | 0:25:04
And what I also brought with me today - | 0:25:04 | 0:25:06
I had a packet of vegetable seeds at home | 0:25:06 | 0:25:09
and I grabbed one randomly this morning. | 0:25:09 | 0:25:12
Now, I'm not sure what vegetable it is, | 0:25:12 | 0:25:14
but I thought we could have an attempt at growing it | 0:25:14 | 0:25:18
with this speed grow powder. So if I just pop the seed in there. | 0:25:18 | 0:25:22
She's going to do vegetables now. | 0:25:22 | 0:25:24
That's a "turnip" for the books. They get worse. | 0:25:24 | 0:25:27
And inside like that. | 0:25:27 | 0:25:30
We should find that hopefully it grows quickly. | 0:25:30 | 0:25:35
Does anyone want to guess what vegetable they might think...? | 0:25:37 | 0:25:41
Maybe an aubergine, maybe a cantaloupe. | 0:25:41 | 0:25:44
You think it might be a potato? And yes. | 0:25:44 | 0:25:46
-A yam? -Tomato? | 0:25:46 | 0:25:48
OK, and what do you think it might be? | 0:25:48 | 0:25:50
A prickly pear, perhaps? | 0:25:50 | 0:25:54
A strawberry? You think it might be a fruit? | 0:25:54 | 0:25:56
OK, well, I think that's long enough. Let's have a look and see... | 0:25:56 | 0:26:00
what vegetable we've got. Let's have a look. | 0:26:00 | 0:26:03
Oh, look at that! CLASS GASPS | 0:26:05 | 0:26:07
Whoa! This seed became a carrot in seconds. Amazing stuff. | 0:26:07 | 0:26:11
We've grown a carrot. | 0:26:11 | 0:26:13
It's time for our magic supply teacher | 0:26:13 | 0:26:15
to let them all in on the trick. | 0:26:15 | 0:26:17
Do you want to know a secret? | 0:26:17 | 0:26:19
ALL: Yes. | 0:26:19 | 0:26:20
The secret is, I'm not a real teacher. | 0:26:20 | 0:26:23
ALL GASP | 0:26:23 | 0:26:25
And that was actually a magic trick. | 0:26:25 | 0:26:28
And if you look over there in that corner, that's a camera, | 0:26:28 | 0:26:31
that's a camera, and over there, that's a camera. | 0:26:31 | 0:26:34
Because you're all being filmed right now for a new CBBC magic show. | 0:26:34 | 0:26:37
ALL SCREAM EXCITEDLY | 0:26:37 | 0:26:40
ALL CHATTER EXCITEDLY | 0:26:42 | 0:26:44
She did it. Katherine's brilliant quick-growing trick | 0:26:47 | 0:26:51
has totally fooled the class. | 0:26:51 | 0:26:54
First she turned a seed into a plant in seconds. | 0:26:54 | 0:26:58
And, wow, look at that. ALL: Oh! | 0:26:58 | 0:27:00
We just saw a leaf. And it just came out of nowhere. | 0:27:00 | 0:27:05
Then she made it grow into a flower. | 0:27:05 | 0:27:07
ALL: Whoa. | 0:27:07 | 0:27:09
After 20 seconds, it actually worked, and I was like, | 0:27:09 | 0:27:12
"What? How is that happening?" | 0:27:12 | 0:27:14
And then she turned a seed into a carrot in no time at all. | 0:27:14 | 0:27:18
We've grown a carrot. | 0:27:18 | 0:27:20
I don't know what I thought - I was just completely wordless, | 0:27:20 | 0:27:24
and it was really amazing. | 0:27:24 | 0:27:26
Katherine pulled it off. | 0:27:26 | 0:27:28
The class had no idea she was a magician. | 0:27:28 | 0:27:32
We totally got them and they loved it. | 0:27:32 | 0:27:35
See you guys next week, but remember, | 0:27:40 | 0:27:43
if your teacher suddenly starts working wonders, | 0:27:43 | 0:27:46
you may need to shout, "Help! My supply teacher is magic!" | 0:27:46 | 0:27:51
