The key that the song was in was B flat,

so how do we find B flat?

So you see the black keys on top, here?

You're going to go just a semitone down,

so right to the black key above it.

So, from B you're going to go down one black key.

And so you can hear that it's a teensy weensy bit lower,

but not a full tone, like going from B to A.

-PLAYS B THEN B FLAT

It's like half, that's why it's called a half step or a semitone.

So that's how you find the flats.

So what do you do for the sharps?

So if you want to find a sharp

you're going to do the total opposite.

So you're going to find the key, and then...

right above it - one black key above it.

So we're going to go G...sharp - up one black key.

And then if you're finding G flat, like I said,

G flat - one down.

So the flats are on the left,

-and the sharps are on the right.

-Exactly. Going up from...

PLAYS IN SEMITONES

So when you want to go to find the sharp you go to the right,

-and if you want to find the flat you go to the left.

-OK.

So, basically, it's just a way to name the notes. And it also helps

when you're trying to find a key that works for your voice -

you can use those sharps and flats.
