Oh, hey, guys!

-We're just kind of practising a little bit.

-Yeah.

As you know, we did a cover of Miss You in today's episode.

What we want to do is kind of go over the arrangement of our song.

So, we kind of made it a little more jazzy than the original version

and we kind of want to talk about HOW we did that.

The original song sounded with more simple chords, going, like...

HE PLAYS SIMPLE CHORDS

But I sort of jazz them up, going like...

HE PLAYS SEVENTH CHORDS

So, I used a seventh,

onto the chord and there are major and minor sevenths.

So, for the minor seventh, I put that on the first chord,

which was a D minor.

And the way I added the seventh, was in the D minor scale, I counted up,

so, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, up to the seventh note.

And I just added that on,

-played them together and we have a D minor seventh.

-OK.

Now, for the major seventh,

I put that on the second chord of the song, which was the F major.

And it's the same idea, you just count up seven notes into the scale.

And you just add that.

So, now you have your D minor 7 and an F major 7.

The minor 7 and the major 7. That's how you add sevenths to your chords.

Another thing is, when you want to jazz up your vocals,

I have a few tips for the that.

So, first of all, um,

instead of singing notes very like, straight, like...

SHE SINGS THREE NOTES IN SEQUENCE

..you want to maybe scoop up to those notes. So, like...

SHE SINGS NOTES OF SONG

So, instead of, like, hitting the note right, like, perfectly,

you just want to go through some of the other notes

to hit that note and it sounds pretty jazzy.

Another thing is scatting.

So, scatting is kind of like a bunch of sounds, so you can go, like...

# Bah-ta, bah-ta, bah-ta Boo-pah, dooh-dah dah... #

..or however you want to do it.

You just, like, you pick a few sounds, so, like,

bah, dee, dooh, shah... You know, stuff like that.

And you just, like, put it all together and it sounds kind of cool!
