Oh, hey, guys! | 0:04:33 | 0:04:35
-We're just kind of practising a little bit. -Yeah. | 0:04:35 | 0:04:37
As you know, we did a cover of Miss You in today's episode. | 0:04:37 | 0:04:44
What we want to do is kind of go over the arrangement of our song. | 0:04:44 | 0:04:50
So, we kind of made it a little more jazzy than the original version | 0:04:50 | 0:04:53
and we kind of want to talk about HOW we did that. | 0:04:53 | 0:04:56
The original song sounded with more simple chords, going, like... | 0:04:56 | 0:05:01
HE PLAYS SIMPLE CHORDS | 0:05:01 | 0:05:04
But I sort of jazz them up, going like... | 0:05:06 | 0:05:09
HE PLAYS SEVENTH CHORDS | 0:05:09 | 0:05:12
So, I used a seventh, | 0:05:15 | 0:05:18
onto the chord and there are major and minor sevenths. | 0:05:18 | 0:05:22
So, for the minor seventh, I put that on the first chord, | 0:05:22 | 0:05:25
which was a D minor. | 0:05:25 | 0:05:27
And the way I added the seventh, was in the D minor scale, I counted up, | 0:05:27 | 0:05:33
so, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, up to the seventh note. | 0:05:33 | 0:05:38
And I just added that on, | 0:05:38 | 0:05:40
-played them together and we have a D minor seventh. -OK. | 0:05:40 | 0:05:43
Now, for the major seventh, | 0:05:43 | 0:05:45
I put that on the second chord of the song, which was the F major. | 0:05:45 | 0:05:50
And it's the same idea, you just count up seven notes into the scale. | 0:05:50 | 0:05:57
And you just add that. | 0:05:57 | 0:05:59
So, now you have your D minor 7 and an F major 7. | 0:05:59 | 0:06:04
The minor 7 and the major 7. That's how you add sevenths to your chords. | 0:06:04 | 0:06:08
Another thing is, when you want to jazz up your vocals, | 0:06:08 | 0:06:13
I have a few tips for the that. | 0:06:13 | 0:06:15
So, first of all, um, | 0:06:15 | 0:06:17
instead of singing notes very like, straight, like... | 0:06:17 | 0:06:21
SHE SINGS THREE NOTES IN SEQUENCE | 0:06:21 | 0:06:23
..you want to maybe scoop up to those notes. So, like... | 0:06:23 | 0:06:28
SHE SINGS NOTES OF SONG | 0:06:28 | 0:06:31
So, instead of, like, hitting the note right, like, perfectly, | 0:06:34 | 0:06:38
you just want to go through some of the other notes | 0:06:38 | 0:06:41
to hit that note and it sounds pretty jazzy. | 0:06:41 | 0:06:43
Another thing is scatting. | 0:06:43 | 0:06:46
So, scatting is kind of like a bunch of sounds, so you can go, like... | 0:06:46 | 0:06:49
# Bah-ta, bah-ta, bah-ta Boo-pah, dooh-dah dah... # | 0:06:49 | 0:06:53
..or however you want to do it. | 0:06:53 | 0:06:55
You just, like, you pick a few sounds, so, like, | 0:06:55 | 0:06:58
bah, dee, dooh, shah... You know, stuff like that. | 0:06:58 | 0:07:02
And you just, like, put it all together and it sounds kind of cool! | 0:07:02 | 0:07:05
Yeah. | 0:07:05 | 0:07:06 |
