-I am Matilda!
I am Matilda!
Cooking is what I love best.
She cooks, she scores.
-Hi, I'm Matilda.
-I'm in charge of the kitchen in this house.
-No, no, Tilly!
Get out of my kitchen.
This is the story of me, my crazy summer...
I'm on the red carpet and I'm about to meet the star of the movie.
..And my even crazier family.
Tilly rules, OK?
Now Tilly, Tilly rules you!
We're having a summer to remember in super-sporty Los Angeles.
Doing the things I love best.
Cooking like crazy...
..writing my food blog...
-..and going sports mad.
Basketball is the most popular sport in LA, it's massive here.
Today, me and the gang are getting into the LA basketball vibe
and having a competition to remember.
But the big question is...
Fancy a game, Till? Let's see if I can remember my skills.
-OK, that was pretty good.
'Can't let mum beat me!'
Cos I tilted it a bit.
Oh, way off.
-What happened there?
-Snooze, you lose.
Hope I score with the food today.
I'm making one of the best sandwiches ever!
My slam dunk meatball subs. Meatball, basketball, get it? Ball?
Froyo lollies, the ultimate treat to cool you down after a game.
And first up, a crazy courtside snack for the hungry players.
My pizza basketballs, I think they guys are going to love them.
First, put some olive oil in the bottom of my pan.
While the oil heats up, chop two cloves of garlic.
I'd like garlic, but I don't like a lot of garlic.
And one large onion.
So I'm going to add it into my pan.
Then add dried oregano.
It gives it the most delicious flavour.
Salt, pepper, and two tins of tomatoes.
Leave that for 15-20 minutes to bubble away.
The tomato sauce is looking good.
To finish the sauce add chopped basil and parsley.
They both smell delicious.
Turn off and leave, ready to put on the basketball pizzas.
I've made some dough and I left it to rest.
To make the base thin, simply roll it out,
or you can go all Italian chefy, like a pizza maestro.
MUSIC: That's Amore by Dean Martin
Give it a shake.
Move it round with your hands, and it just stretches.
Then I've got my circle-shaped cutter.
So they're going to be round shaped like a basketballs.
Now simply add your tomato sauce.
So it's just like a mini pizza, really.
Got some green and red peppers to put on.
Next, add grated mozzarella cheese.
And then some pepperoni slices, I'll put about two on each.
This is the fun bit.
I put another circle on top.
This is what Italians call calzone, they're sort of pizza pies.
To seal, crib the edges together.
I think the guys are going to love these.
Now, to make them look like basketballs.
Get a bit of dough, roll it into a kind of worm.
Hmm, not bad.
Next, separate an egg and whisk the yolk.
This will help it get a nice, golden, crispy top.
Then pop in a hot oven for 15-20 minutes.
Before they hit the court, Megan wants to get some new
trainers from one of the hottest sneaker shops in LA.
What do you think of these ones, guys?
And they sell really rare vintage trainers here.
This is an original 1985 shoe,
it's what Jordan wore on court in his first season, in perfect
condition with the original box, it can go up to five grand.
Kanye's first collaboration with Louis Vuitton.
Brand-new, the shoe goes for about 3-4 grand.
It'd take years of pocket money to buy these trainers.
Sensibly, Megan chooses a pair of plain black sneakers.
It's like walking on sand. Ha-ha.
They're so comfy.
They don't look expensive either.
These are priced at 1,400.
1,400? Oh, no.
With prices like that, Megan is sticking with her smelly,
As the gang head to the court,
my basketball picnic's coming along nicely.
These are ready, crispy on the top, nice golden colour, perfect.
Now I need to get a picture for my food blog.
Check out some of my recipes at the CBBC website.
Venice Beach is one of the coolest places in LA to shoot hoops.
The gang are meeting up with four super-cool basketball players...
..hoping to brush up their skills.
All right, first things first, let's do some drills.
Drill one: Chest passes.
You kind of want to make a diamond with your fingers, as you push it to
your partner your thumbs are going to end up facing towards the ground.
The gang are nailing the basics and even getting some praise.
You're the best of all.
Time to move up a gear.
Fake defenders out, throw it behind their back.
Oop! You can do it, Emma.
Hmm, maybe not.
Come on, Holl. I'm rooting for you.
From court to kitchen,
meatball subs are one of the most popular sandwiches in America.
Just like basketball is one of most popular sports.
I'm making a Tilly version called my slam dunk meatball sub.
She cooks, she scores.
OK, meatball time.
First, add chopped garlic to beef mince.
Then a finely chopped onion, one egg to help it bind together,
and handful of chopped parsley, next add Worcestershire sauce.
This is quite a strong smell.
But I like it.
A big pinch of oregano.
Salt and pepper.
Then tear up a couple of slices of bread and add milk.
So the milk is going to soak into the bread.
And now the messy part, just combine it all together.
So this tray is lined with some tinfoil.
Simply roll the mixture into some balls and pop on the tray.
I love meatballs, they're so delicious.
Normally I have them with tomato sauce and spaghetti.
It's quite unusual to have them in a sandwich.
Cook in a hot over for 20-25 minutes.
As my meatballs are cooking,
the gang are hotting up on the court with dribbling skills.
Next up, something a bit trickier.
Think about a V,
the letter V in your head while you're dribbling the ball.
And keep your heads up.
Megan's starting to get the hang of it. Whoops!
Emma, you're supposed to bounce the ball, not your head!
The next dribbling drill is even harder.
Think about the crossover, but just dribble like this.
-No, I can't do it. Ha-ha.
Oh, Holly. Bouncing wipe-out!
But Byron's nailed it!
They smell and look delicious. Now to make my slam dunk subs.
Simply add the meatballs to the tomato sauce,
they're called subs because they look like submarines.
Spoon in my meatballs in tomato sauce.
Top with grated Cheddar cheese.
And wow, I can really see why these are so popular in America.
Then, simply grill.
Now my cheese is all bubbly and delicious.
The training session is hotting up with some defensive slides.
You do look funny, guys,
but you need to stop laughing and concentrate!
Next, the most important drill:
With the super sunny LA weather, it's hot, hot, hot.
So I'm making iced yoghurt supercoolers,
to keep the temperature down on courts and everyone refreshed.
First, I'm making a crunchy base.
Spoon a little bit of this into each one.
From crushed digestive biscuits and melted butter.
And you're trying to make it firm so it will stick.
Next, make the freezing cooler.
Add all my ingredients into my blender, so my plain yoghurt...
..raspberries and blackberries, strawberries and blueberries,
milk, and honey.
The honey's going to sweeten it up and make it taste extra delicious.
And then the lid tightly on...
Now it's all nicely blended.
Pour in the mixture, add lollipop sticks, and pop in the freezer.
Wow! Now that looks amazing. I think I'd better get one of me eating one.
Time to head to Venice Beach, to deliver my courtside picnic.
Hey. This is our basketball team that we've got.
-Nice to meet you guys, I'm Tilly.
-Tilly, we're really hungry. OK.
Better get them fed.
-Mini basketball pizzas, this my slam dunk sub.
-The pizzas, please.
I'm going to have a pizza too.
-Oh, look it looks like an actual basketball.
It's, actually, really good.
-After this, I don't think I can go back to eating regular pizza.
Refuelled and ready for action.
We're going to hold a classic 3-on-3 basketball competition.
First up, Holly's team...
..is playing Megan's!
MUSIC: Stronger by Kanye West
Everyone in my family is really competitive.
So we're all full-on to win.
Fantastic! Megan's team goes into the lead.
HIP-HOP MUSIC PLAYS
Megs scores again, looks like her netball training is paying off.
Yes, go, girl. Yes!
Holly gets one back.
Holly's team are fighting back, but Megs got the ball.
Yay! We won!
So her team will be taking on mine for the basketball crown,
but first it's froyo time!
-Guys, these are really going to cool you down.
-Oh, they're yummy.
Really enjoying it, it's really cooled me down.
I like the biscuit top as well.
Everyone cooled down, it's time for the big one!
Megan's team is taking on mine...
..to see who will be crowned beach basketball champions.
Hope it's us!
Hey, Byron, middle.
I've got the basket in my sights.
Megan's team have got some good moves though. Ah! She scores.
Megs got my rebound.
No! Ah, they're in the lead.
Byron's lining up for a long a shot.
Next basket wins!
We're the winners!
Sport and food are two of the things that me and my dad love doing best.
So it's great to catch up at the end of the day.
Wow, Dad. Basketball today, tiring but fun.
Out team won.
-So, the first thing I made, Dad...
-..was my basketball calzone pizzas.
-Wow! They're beautiful.
Everyone loved them,
and then also to go with those I made my meatball subs.
Look, gooey, and delicious.
Over here meatballs are more popular than sausages.
And then my frozen yoghurt pops.
Crumbled biscuit and my own frozen yoghurt.
There's a big smile on your face and I've got a little surprise
for you and this is something that I think you're going to enjoy.
-OK. You're going to love it, I'm telling you. Oh, my goodness, me.
Dad is so good at surprises, I want to know what it is.
Tilly, here's your surprise!
-Jump on there.
-OK, wait, we need someone else. Megan!
Go, left. Go left, right.
What do you think?
-I like it.
-Megan, Tilly, Dad.
-No, I not saying Megan, Tilly, Dad.
-Boyfriend, Tilly, Dad.
-Tilly, I thought it was a...
-Megan, Tilly, Dad.
Just in the event we want to go on a bike ride together,
your boyfriend and me.
Dad just never gives up.
ALL: Goodnight everyone!
-What is that?
-No idea. Get to sleep.
-Is that you, Megan?
-Not me, Holly?
Uh-uh, I'm in bed. Must be Tills.
Yay! One point everyone!
Matilda and the Ramsay bunch hit the Venice Beach basketball courts to shoot hoops with some of the coolest basketball players in Los Angeles. Sisters Megan and Holly head to the court with their friends to get some one on one coaching whilst Tilly does what she loves best - cooking up some delicious basketball-inspired food. To keep energy up on the court she's rustling up amazing slam-dunk meatball subs, terribly tasty basketball pizza pies and to cool everyone down in the hot Californian sun, fro-yo super ice lollies. Tilly arrives with her courtside picnic and after tucking in and demolishing the food, the guys split into teams and have a three-on-three basketball competition. With the match finally on let's hope Tilly scores a slam dunk with the menu as well as on the court!
