Time to get my ninja on,

0:00:050:00:07

and my clothes.

0:00:070:00:08

Ya!

CLANG

-KNOCK AT DOOR Hi, Ricky.

-Hi, Dad.

0:00:240:00:26

Mum's really worried about you.

0:00:260:00:28

-I know, she's still on the phone.

-VOICE SQUEAKS ON PHONE

0:00:280:00:31

She's sent me around with a hot water bottle.

0:00:310:00:33

I've got some tissues for you as well.

0:00:330:00:35

Whoa, you want to keep your distance.

0:00:350:00:37

I don't want you to catch my cold. Can you throw me a tissue?

0:00:370:00:40

Oh, I can't open them.

0:00:400:00:42

-Can you help me, please?

-Yeah, sure.

0:00:420:00:43

A-choo!

0:00:430:00:45

A-choo!

0:00:480:00:50

Wow, that sneeze went into Dad's beard.

0:00:520:00:54

I bet he wishes he could do this,

0:00:540:00:56

but he can't - it's an amazing animation.

0:00:560:00:59

So, to make this awesome animation, all you're going to need is

0:00:590:01:02

some wool or thread, some clippers, a tablet, a pen and paper,

0:01:020:01:07

and a beardy friend who's willing to be shaved.

0:01:070:01:10

'And you can make this animation in just three ninja moves.

0:01:100:01:14

'Ninja move number one.'

0:01:140:01:16

I'm going to start by drawing myself some storyboards.

0:01:160:01:18

The whole point of doing them is to plan out what you're going to do.

0:01:180:01:21

I reckon you'll have, like, your hand up there,

0:01:210:01:23

and I think we'll cut as you start pulling and go to

0:01:230:01:26

a nice, sort of, head-on shot, as your beard unravels.

0:01:260:01:30

When was the last time you actually took all your beard off?

0:01:300:01:32

-Are you feeling confident?

-I love it.

0:01:320:01:35

I'm feeling confident. Right, well, let's do it.

0:01:350:01:37

'Ninja move number two.'

0:01:370:01:39

As Dan's going to be our animation model,

0:01:390:01:41

it's really important that he stays really still in between our frames.

0:01:410:01:45

Isn't that right, Dan?

0:01:450:01:47

I said to stay still.

0:01:470:01:49

Perfect.

0:01:490:01:50

Then, you have to get a bit of wool

0:01:500:01:51

or whatever you're using, and hide it inside the beard.

0:01:510:01:55

We're going to animate Dan coming in and pulling this thread out.

0:01:570:02:00

We're going to have it go across his face, and we're going to shave

0:02:000:02:03

the space behind it, to make it look like the beard's unravelling.

0:02:030:02:06

CLIPPERS BUZZ

0:02:060:02:08

If you're going to be using clippers,

0:02:080:02:10

it's probably a good idea that you get some adult supervision.

0:02:100:02:13

It's OK for us cos we're, believe it or not, both adults.

0:02:130:02:17

'Ninja move number three.'

0:02:170:02:19

As your model's beard unravels,

0:02:190:02:21

you need to capture all your frames on your tablet device.

0:02:210:02:24

I'm using a free animation app.

0:02:240:02:26

Just search around and find one that you like.

0:02:260:02:28

If I look at my storyboard, my first shot is

0:02:280:02:30

kind of at three-quarters on, at the side of Dan's face.

0:02:300:02:33

CLIPPERS BUZZ

0:02:330:02:36

'Make sure you only shave a willing family member or friend,

0:02:390:02:43

'otherwise you and me will both be in a hairy situation.'

0:02:430:02:47

CLIPPERS BUZZ

0:02:470:02:49

So, now, it's to that point, I think.

0:02:490:02:51

CLIPPERS BUZZ

0:02:530:02:56

I think it's time for us to take a look at our new masterpiece.

0:02:560:02:59

HAIR RIPS

0:03:040:03:06

Ow!

0:03:110:03:12

Beardy-weirdy.

0:03:120:03:14

-Blowing your nose...

-FOGHORN HONKS

0:03:180:03:21

SNOT fun, is it?

0:03:210:03:22

And I've got some art that can help you with that.

0:03:220:03:25

-Art Ninja.

-The Art Ninja nose-shaped tissue dispenser.

0:03:250:03:28

It's great and I'm SNOT kidding.

0:03:280:03:30

I've got a big piece of cardboard

0:03:320:03:33

and I'm going to draw around a tissue box.

0:03:330:03:36

I'm going to roll it up onto its end, towards me.

0:03:390:03:42

'Now, I'm going to draw around the edges of three sides.'

0:03:420:03:46

And then, on the edges here,

0:03:480:03:50

I'm going to draw the profile of a nose, nice and big.

0:03:500:03:53

It is important to make these match, so once you've cut it out,

0:03:590:04:02

you can fold it in half and make sure they're symmetrical.

0:04:020:04:04

Then, I'm going to draw around my box here,

0:04:040:04:06

and make a strip of card 1½ times the length of the tissue box.

0:04:060:04:10

'There looks about half again.'

0:04:110:04:14

Now, I'm going to cut them out.

0:04:140:04:16

Snippy-snippy.

0:04:180:04:19

And then, you just score along these lines,

0:04:190:04:21

and I'm going to use a ruler for that.

0:04:210:04:23

It's a bit safer than using scissors.

0:04:230:04:25

'I'm scoring so I can fold

0:04:250:04:26

'these parts of cardboard back more easily.'

0:04:260:04:29

Turn it over.

0:04:290:04:30

Just see if the tissue box fits inside.

0:04:300:04:32

There we go, perfect.

0:04:330:04:35

You need to have a little bit of wiggle room, so you can take it out.

0:04:350:04:38

Now, this strip is going to be the bridge of the nose,

0:04:400:04:43

and the underside here.

0:04:430:04:45

And what have you got here? Nostrils,

0:04:450:04:47

so we need to cut some holes in this strip. Just a couple of ovals.

0:04:470:04:51

If you've got square nostrils, by all means, draw square ones.

0:04:540:04:58

'Or even triangular.'

0:04:580:04:59

Now, I'm going to put a bit of clay behind them,

0:04:590:05:02

and use a pencil to make a hole so I can get my scissors in there.

0:05:020:05:06

Now, I can start taping it together.

0:05:090:05:11

That's just going to hold it together

0:05:160:05:19

while we put the bridge on.

0:05:190:05:20

OK, it's shaping up pretty well.

0:05:260:05:28

Now, I'm going to stick some balls of newspaper on either side,

0:05:280:05:30

so this looks more like a nose.

0:05:300:05:32

There we go.

0:05:350:05:36

Right, I'm going to cover it in a couple of layers of papier-mache,

0:05:400:05:43

so I've got a bowl of PVA glue and water mix -

0:05:430:05:47

two parts glue, one part water - and a nice pile of newspaper.

0:05:470:05:51

Papier-mache-ing...quite messy,

0:05:590:06:02

so you should probably put some extra newspaper down first.

0:06:020:06:05

OK, good. Looking nice and covered.

0:06:100:06:13

Now, if you're doing this at home, you'll need to wait for it to dry,

0:06:130:06:16

but I'm going to use my ninja skills.

0:06:160:06:17

SWOOSH

0:06:170:06:20

Great, papier-mache's dry. It's nice and hard.

0:06:200:06:23

Now, I'm going to do my nose,

0:06:230:06:24

so I have the right colour of paint here.

0:06:240:06:27

Mix up some colours to get the skin tone right for you.

0:06:270:06:29

SQUELCH AND SWOOSH

0:06:290:06:31

Great, that's all covered.

0:06:430:06:46

Now, you'll need to wait for yours to dry, but I wait for nothing -

0:06:460:06:49

-I'm the Art Ninja.

-SWOOSH

0:06:490:06:51

Oh, look at that. It took so long to dry, it's grown a moustache.

0:06:510:06:56

I've also added some detail here, just to accentuate the nostrils,

0:06:560:06:59

and I've pierced a hole in the back

0:06:590:07:01

and put a bit of string to hang it up.

0:07:010:07:04

Now, let's slide in our tissues.

0:07:040:07:06

SNEEZY does it.

0:07:070:07:10

Oh, yeah.

0:07:100:07:11

SNOT bad, that.

0:07:150:07:17

Ha-ha, said snot again.

0:07:170:07:18

A-choo!

0:07:180:07:20

Oh...

0:07:220:07:23

FOGHORN HONKS

0:07:230:07:25

The nose-shaped tissue dispenser - have a blow at it today!

0:07:310:07:34

I mean, go.

0:07:340:07:35

SQUELCH 'Hey, you there.'

0:07:400:07:43

-RICKY SIGHS

-This guy makes me sick.

0:07:430:07:45

Ever wanted to make fake sick?

0:07:450:07:48

-Seriously?

-Seriously.

0:07:480:07:50

You can produce puke without all that yucky muck.

0:07:500:07:56

'Here's how you make it.

0:07:560:07:58

'First, you need a bowl,

0:07:580:08:01

'two packets of soup - minestrone and chicken are good.

0:08:010:08:05

'Pour the soup mixtures into the bowl.

0:08:050:08:08

'Get a jug of water.

0:08:080:08:11

'Pour a small amount into the bowl, and stir,

0:08:110:08:14

'keeping the mixture thick.

0:08:140:08:16

'Then, you need to add a generous amount of PVA glue,

0:08:160:08:20

'to make it sticky.

0:08:200:08:23

'Stir well with a spoon, and add more water if necessary.

0:08:230:08:27

'Grab a piece of canvas or thick paper.

0:08:290:08:33

'Pour the mixture onto the canvas, and use the spoon...

0:08:330:08:37

SQUELCH '...to spread the mixture around,

0:08:370:08:39

'to make a more splattered effect.

0:08:390:08:42

DING 'Leave it to dry overnight.'

0:08:420:08:46

Fake sick - give it a whirl.

0:08:460:08:49

So good, you'll hurl!

0:08:490:08:52

Ha, that fake sick is sick.
