Birthday Party My First

This is Fern and she is three-years-old.

But in a few days' time, she'll be four.

She likes playing hockey

and watering plants with her mum.

Well done, and the next one?

Number two. This one's number two.

Today, Fern is going to do something new for the first time,

but what will it be?

This is Fern's memory box.

It helps her remember all the exciting things that have happened.

Fern is playing a game of animal cards with Mum.

Fern, since you're going to be four soon, shall we have an animal party?

-Yes.

Oh, wow! An animal-themed party sounds great!

Every year we celebrate the day that we were born as our birthday.

Some people have parties with their friends

and family to enjoy the day.

You can do lots of things at a party

and usually there is food, games, music and birthday cake.

People often get gifts on their birthday.

Fern's gran is helping her write invitations for the party.

Who do you think we should invite?

Do you think we should invite everybody in your class?

-Yes.

Gran writes the invitations and Fern puts them in the envelopes.

Now we're finished, what shall we do with them?

-Give them out.

-Will we go to school and give them out? Yes.

Next day, Mum takes Fern to school.

In the school playground, some children are in the garden.

Others are making mud pies.

-And Fern plays ring-a-ring-a-roses with her friends.

-All fall down!

Time to come inside! Good boy, what are you going to play?

Boys and girls, Fern is having a party and you are all invited.

-Fern gives out the invitations to her classmates.

-This is for Pippa.

It looks like all your friends are coming to the party.

The first thing in Fern's memory box is an invitation.

It's now the day before the party

and Fern is helping mum get everything ready.

Look at all the party bags.

These are to say thank you to your friends for coming to your party.

-Shall we stick a balloon in?

-Yellow.

-Yellow. And some animal stickers,

since you are having an animal party?

Once the bags are ready, they prepare some games.

The first game we are going to do is pass the parcel.

OK, do you want to stick it down for Mummy?

Down here?

Good job. Last piece and then we're done.

It will be a good game, won't it? You've wrapped it really tightly.

Next, they wash their hands.

And Fern helps Mum make the birthday cake.

Give that a good spread out.

That's it.

She adds a dollop of jam, spreads it out,

and Mum puts the top on the cake.

Fern, how many layers are there on your cake?

-One, two, three, four.

-Yes.

They spread the rest of the icing on the outside

and add the animal decorations.

-Shall we decorate your cake?

-Yes!

-Yes? What does the lion say?

-Roar.

-Roar!

And that's the cake for your party finished. It looks yummy.

The second thing to go into the memory box is a cake.

-Today is Fern's party and they've got everything ready.

-OK? Let's go.

Fern helps Mum carry everything out to the car.

They load the party bags and all the food into the car.

All done, thank you.

Now that's the car all packed, shall we go

-and get dressed for your party?

-Yay!

The big day is here

and Fern has decided to have an animal-themed birthday party.

There's going to be soft play, face painting, games and yummy food.

Fern has arrived at the venue with Mum and Gran,

and together they carry the party things in.

Do you want to help Mummy? It's a banner that says happy birthday.

-Let's put it up on that one.

-On this window? OK?

This one should go at the bottom. I'll do the tape.

-Fern puts up the birthday banner.

-Well done, that looks awesome.

Gran lays out plates on the table.

Fern puts out party hats and Mum does the juice cups.

Finally, the tables are set with some lovely food.

Sandwiches, veg sticks, sausage rolls and fresh fruit.

Shall we see your bouncy castle now?

Mum takes Fern to see what is in the big hall.

-Wow, look at the bouncy castle going up.

-That a large castle!

And a slide!

This is going to be so much fun!

The third thing to go into the memory box is a bouncy castle.

Fern's party guests arrive. Isn't she lucky?

-She has cards and presents.

-Thank you!

They are very excited when they see the bouncy castle

and climbing frame.

And soon are playing in the ball pool.

And going into the castle.

The slide looks great fun, come on down!

Everyone is enjoying themselves and Fern is getting her face painted.

What animal have you chosen, Fern?

Hmm, it starts with yellow, orange next.

Around the outside, that looks like whiskers.

Have a look in the mirror.

Wow, you are a tiger!

Some of the other children also get their faces painted.

Look, there's a puppy.

The fourth thing to go into the memory box is face painting.

Now it's time for pass the parcel.

Make sure you listen to the music.

Whoever has the parcel when the music stops,

unwraps a layer of paper and gets a gift.

Pass it on.

Oh, some colouring pencils!

The children now come through for the birthday tea,

and it looks like there's some rather hungry puppies and tigers.

Some of the mums help hand out the food.

Others pour the juice, and the children tuck in.

This all looks delicious.

-One of Fern's friends comes to talk to her.

-Are you having a nice party?

Fern's mum puts four candles on her cake, and a number four.

She lights them. And then carries it through as everyone starts singing.
