It's a lovely morning on Holy Island,

and the four children who live there

are at the small island's school.

Connor is first to arrive.

Good morning, Callum.

Callum and Connor, Gabriel, Emma and their teacher Mr Sayer,

are going to meet someone special today.

What we are doing this morning is going to visit

-the coastguard.

I think we are going to find out.

..see some of the equipment they have there.

And if you're really lucky, you might get a chance to have a go with

-some of it and try some of it on. We will see.

I'm not sure everything we're going to do,

because it's not me in charge. It is actually Gabriel's mum.

She is going to be showing us around the coastguard station.

We need to get our coats, hats, gloves, if we've got them.

-And we'll head on down to the coastguard station. OK?

Because Holy Island is surrounded by water,

having the coastguard is important.

They rescue people who are in trouble, on and near the sea.

Emma, the coastguard rescue officer, is waiting for them

-with her special car.

-Welcome to the coastguard on Holy Island.

-Have you seen our vehicle?

-Yes.

-Do you know what these are on top?

-Gabriel.

-Sirens.

-They are sirens.

-Wooooo!

That's it. Thought we'd know that.

-Shall I put the sirens on just for one minute.

-Yeah!

That's probably woken up the whole island.

SIREN CONTINUES

-Why do you have that badge on there?

That badge is so that everyone knows who I am,

so they know I'm a coastguard rescue officer.

-Do we all know what number to call if we call the coastguard?

-999.

-Three nines.

-Three nines. That's correct.

What do you think me, a coastguard rescue officer,

-would need to wear?

-A life jacket.

-A life jacket.

What's a life jacket for?

Mostly... It keeps you above the water

when you are in the sea.

-It helps you to... Do you know the word?

-Float! Swim!

Either one of them.

Would we like to look at some equipment in the back of our van?

-Come on, let's see what we've got here.

A safety helmet.

When I'm wearing this helmet, it is helping protect my...

-Head.

This helmet, this is a different colour.

If I came to rescue Emma, I might put this helmet on just

so she's safe too.

Oh!

Yes? Gently.

Do you have one of those helmets which has a light on the top?

-We do have helmets with lights on.

-That's it.

And we use these to see where we are going at night.

Would you like to try this on? Do you want to step towards me?

What does that feel like?

-Heavy.

-Now you've got your light on.

-Do you want to try the life jacket on?

Then what we do is, we strap you all up. That goes through your legs.

Maybe Callum will be a Holy Island coastguard one day.

Back at the island's school, it's lunchtime.

Everyone has brought their own packed lunch.

Sandwiches. What are we going to eat first? You need to have something.

Callum is really enjoying his banana.

It's Brian. He's come to drive them to the mainland school.

Now the tide has gone out

and the sea doesn't cover the road, the children

are able to cross to the bigger school and join their friends.

They've arrived at the bigger school just in time for break.

Emma and Callum are skipping with Mrs Bradbury.

One.

Three... Over. Jump! Jump!

Emma, you have a go.

-Isn't Emma good?

-I'm skipping. Aw!

Abbie wants to join in, but she's not sure how to skip.

-Emma will show her.

Look, everyone is getting on a bus. I wonder where they're going?

It's a swimming pool!

It's the last swimming lesson of the term.

I wonder how the children are doing.

Mitchell is pouring water over Davey.

And Mrs Edmison. Cheeky!

Now it's Davey's turn to wet Mitchell.

What's Abbie doing with the hoops?

She's swimming through them!

Abbie's good at swimming through the hoops.

Where's Libby going?

Down the water slide she goes!

Mitchell and his friends have really improved their swimming.

Now it's time to dry off and go home.
