Today the children at Lowick School are going across to Holy Island.

Tyler and Poppy wonder what they might find.

We're going to find some crabs.

We won't find any lobsters today.

When they arrive,

Mrs Strangeways has special jackets for everyone to wear.

Davy, why are you putting this on?

-So we don't get lost.

At last, the beach!

When the tide goes out,

shallow rock pools are left behind and so are some sea creatures.

Mrs Fieldhouse tells everyone how to stay safe before they explore.

OK, out there are our rock pools, and there's the deeper water,

which we don't go towards.

Each group have got a hoop

and we are using that hoop to be the place that we're looking at.

We're all going to examine, very carefully, what's inside the hoop.

That's how scientists do it.

And we've got these sheets.

These are identification sheets.

The pictures might help them know what sealife they've found.

We do not want to damage any wildlife.

Anything that you get out of the sea, out of the rock pools,

you eventually put back in, as close to the place as you got it from.

Did you get that? Can you come and get an ID sheet?

And a magnifying glass. Do you want one of these big ones?

Look, the magnifying sheet makes everything appear bigger!

Jack and Abby, let's go this way.

Pincers are the strongest weapons for a crab to defend itself.

I've never seen and a live crab before.

That is a green shore crab, how on earth would it get that name?

because it doesn't really want to stay in the rock pool

I've got a large swimming thingy and a whole lot of worms!

They prefer sand to mud.

It's heading off, it's going down the coast.
