-I'm live in Caernarfon.

-I'm at the home of Olga the dog

-and her owner, Derek.

-Olga is the worthy winner

-of our Gelert competition.

-Heno has been busy searching for the

-new Gelert of Wales during November.

-It's part of S4C's Legends Month.

-Here's a reminder of

-why Olga is so special.

-I've suffered with my health

-all my life...

-..as at the age of two,

-I was struck down with tuberculosis.

-Having Olga means I can go out more

-and she helps at home and outside.

-Olga's my queen!

-I tell her to fetch her coat

-and she gets it from the garage.

-She also opens the door

-and closes it behind her.

-If I get a phone call, I ask her

-to find the phone and she gets it.

-Unfortunately, she gets confused

-with the remote for the Sky box...

-..and I can't really answer that!

-Olga's a retriever and

-it's in her nature to help people.

-She does a lot for Dad

-and has totally changed his life.

-She sleeps next to him

-and wakes him in the morning.

-She'll bark at him to make sure

-he gets out of bed!

-The biggest change is that Dad

-now has the confidence to go out.

-It's great to see him chatting

-as he did 20 years ago.

-She not only gets me out but does

-things normal dogs wouldn't do...

-..but she isn't a normal dog.

-It's taken a good 18 months

-to train her...

-..and another four months

-to train her to suit my needs.

-That's the real difference for me.

-Since having Olga,

-I've had my father back...

-..and my children

-have their grandfather back.

-Everyone knows about Gelert

-being a heroic dog in Wales...

-..but for me in Caernarfon,

-Olga's a true hero!

-Olga and Derek

-are such good friends.

-I can't quite believe that we won!

-I'm thrilled.

-It's the best Christmas present.

-You were emotional

-when you heard the news.

-Yes, I was very emotional

-when I got the phone call.

-I think Olga knows that she's won.

-She's a very intelligent dog.

-Your grandson is here with you.

-Why is Olga so great?

-I like her

-because she looks after grandad.

-She has helped him to get

-out of the house and socialise.

-Dawn is Derek's daughter.

-We heard you say

-that you have your dad back.

-I don't say it lightly.

-I really mean every word.

-He had become housebound and it

-was very sad to see him like that.

-He's always loved people

-and been full of life.

-He is socialising again now.

-Jonathan Rees joins me and he

-is the manager of Pero Pet Foods.

-We chose Olga because of the story.

-We could see how much

-she has helped Derek.

-She's made such a difference.

-Now that we've met we're absolutely

-certain she was the right choice.

-Olga has also won a year's supply

-I'm overwhelmed.

-Congratulations on your new role.

-It must be an honour for you.

-It's a real honour

-and a huge responsibility.

-It's a voluntary post

-but it's the best kind.

-In five years we will be

-celebrating our centenary.

-The preparations for

-that will be very important.

-What does the job entail?

-I'll be chairing the meetings.

-We are a very democratic

-institution.

-Our regions make the decisions.

-We have elected members and they're

-all part of the decision-making.

-What do I want to achieve?

-I want to give our members

-the very best opportunities...

-..for the next 100 years.

-The Urdd has changed so much

-over the past decade.

-We have a turnover

-of over 10 million.

-We are a charity

-but we have lots of centres.

-we even have a house in Hungary.

-Our members are offered

-the chance to visit the centres.

-They are what are important to us

-- the young members.

-We share the Welsh Government's aim

-to increase Welsh speakers.

-Many of us have fond memories of

-going to these centres and trips.

-The Urdd has grown

-so much in this first 100 years.

-We are trying to develop

-and grow good citizens.

-We've developed

-our sports activities.

-We've been working

-with the Welsh Rugby Union.

-We've also started up

-sports apprenticeships.

-We've got 50 young people

-in those positions.

-You are perfect for this role.

-Your family are Eisteddfod-goers.

-I come from a very

-Eisteddfod-focussed family.

-We've all competed

-and it matters a great deal to us.

-The girls have not had a choice!

-We love it.

-The Urdd has given us opportunities.

-The Young farmers

-do equally good work.

-If young people don't enjoy

-socialising in Welsh...

-..why are they going to speak it?

-Many sport stars from Wales

-have shone again this year.

-But 2017 been a tremendous year

-for the UFC fighter, Brett Johns.

-fight against Joe Soto of America.

-The Park Theatre in Las Vegas.

-the flag for Wales wherever he goes.

-We're situated between Bala and

-their treats before the owners.

-We have treats for the dogs

-including beer and biscuits.

-They usually get one biscuit each

-but the greedy ones get two!

-I work here but I always bring my

-dogs when I'm a customer.

-They always get a treat

-at the Bryntirion Inn.

-I'm delighted to hear that

-Bryntirion won this wonderful award.

-They deserve it as not many pubs

-welcome dogs.

-The dogs are more spoilt than the

-owners and they always get a treat.

-It's been going for a few years

-and I'm thrilled that it's growing.

-We started five years ago.

-I try to get different artists

-to come.

-My mother makes mince pies

-and some people come just for them!

-Kizzy Crawford is singing.

-Martha is also here from Zimbabwe.

-Yes, we're singing with Al tonight.

-We're very exciting.

-We're all from Zimbabwe

-but live here in Wales.

-We decided to form a group.

-We sing songs that have been passed

-down to us through the family.

-We're looking forward.

-We've been busy recording a new song

-and that will be out soon.

-You have also worked with Kizzy.

-Kizzy and I have also been

-writing a song together.

-I'm a busy boy!

-They're currently exhibiting work by

-artist and actress Mabli Jen.

-Mabli this is your first big

-exhibition.

-How does it feel to have your work

-displayed on these walls?

-It's very exciting and gives the

-work a different perspective...

-..from lying on the studio floor

-in a different light.

-I work with the human body and the

-relationship with the environment.

-I start making collages with

-pictures I've taken of myself...

-..in expressive positions and then

-develop them into a composition.

-The process of creating the work has

-taken about six months.

-I work on several pieces at the same

-time so that I don't overwork them.

-It keeps you fresh and inspired.

-Where do you get your inspiration?

-I love work by Cecily Brown, Georg

-Baselitz, Cezanne and Picasso.

-Do you hope people make the same

-connection with your paintings?

-No, I want them to see Mabli Jen!

-Rather than filling the rooms with

-her large canvasses...

-..Mabli is sharing her space with

-two other artists.

-We all live and paint in Wales.

-The others are Jacqueline Alkema

-and Llinos Thomas.

-Jacqueline's work is quite dark.

-She's from the Netherlands and is

-influenced by Flemish painters.

-She paints lonely characters

-who stare straight at you...

-..or are lost in their own world.

-Childhood memories and emotions

-are reflected so it's very personal.

-She focuses on the object rather

-than the figure.

-For someone who is just starting

-her journey as an artist...

-She's had much more than painting

-on her plate recently.

-Mabli's been busy filming.

-We've been filming Gwaith Cartref

-which is now hour-long episodes.

-I think it's a good balance as I'm

-always in one studio or the other.

-They are both creative outlets

-for expression.

-They're very different but they

-compliment each other well.

-Because it's fab.
