-new book, O Ben Cilan i Bombay.

-It's the story of a farmhand

-who also fought in the Great War.

-I'll chat with Harri and some

-of the descendants of David Jones.

-I'm joined by the presenters of the

-S4C children's series Pigo Dy Drwyn.

-relatively new faces of S4C.

-You both lead very busy lives.

-First, we return to Gerallt

-on the Lleyn Peninsula tonight.

-is the title of tonight's book.

-I spent the day learning about

-the book's subject, David Jones.

-The starting point

-for Harri Parri's new book...

-..was a manuscript or the diaries

-of David Jones from Mynytho.

-It depicts life of war and peace

-from the Victorian era to the 1970s.

-It was the catalyst that saw Harri

-Parri pen O Ben Cilan i Bombay...

-..and protected

-the memories of David Jones.

-This was his home called Ty Brics.

-Yes, it's Ty Brics in Mynytho.

-He moved here in the 1930s...

-..and worked on the Nanhoron Estate

-and the Ty Brics smallholding.

-He was a farmhand all his life

-and moved from farm to farm.

-There are two prominent themes

-that leap out of his writings...

-..and they are his wage and the

-quality of the food on the farms.

-Yes, food was important and he has

-detailed descriptions of the food...

-..and marks them on a points system.

-He also mentions some of the meals

-such as the old dish of brwas.

-He also mentions his wage

-as he had four children.

-Each season,

-he would move to find a better wage.

-He mentions two definitive things

-in his memoirs...

-..and they are the Nanhoron Mansion

-and the Great War.

-Yes, he was forced to fight in the

-Great War and was posted in India.

-This was lucky as I suspect

-he would have been killed in France!

-He spoke about India

-when he was at Capel Cilan.

-David Jones tended to the horses

-in India.

-He enjoyed this position with

-the horses and came home safely.

-How long did he spend working

-on this estate at Nanhoron?

-It was 30 seasons so if my sums are

-correct, it was from 1936 to 1952.

-He was a shepherd

-but I don't think he enjoyed it.

-It had one advantage and that was

-being able to sleep at Ty Brics.

-There's a path between the mansion

-and Ty Brics.

-He was here for 30 seasons

-until about 1952 or 1953.

-Moi and Elwyn

-are David Jones' grandsons.

-I was chatting with Harri Parri.

-The chapel was important

-to David Jones.

-He never missed the service.

-We couldn't go to the

-Sunday School...

-..in case we interrupted him.

-I loved listening to him.

-I could hear Taid reading a verse

-from the Bible every morning.

-He went to India.

-Yes, and he was a soldier...

-..and this didn't bother him.

-He didn't talk about his experiences

-in India.

-He led a very organized life.

-He didn't complain about

-going to India.

-but Elin enjoyed a sneak peek.

-I can't wait to have a look inside.

-spot but it all looks incredible.

-of extreme sports.

-Huw Brassington is busy making

-a name for himself in this field.

-He was a contestant in the series,

-Ultimate Hell Week on BBC Two...

-..that led him to undertake some

-of the world's challenging races.

-Owain Gwynedd has been to meet him.

-But for Huw Brassington

-it was challenging and thrilling.

-For 12 months, the Caernarfon

-rugby player and triathlete...

-..pushed his body

-and mind to the limit.

-It all started with the television

-series, Ultimate Hell Week.

-I thought I'd give it a go.

-The BBC Two series featured

-people from various backgrounds.

-There were gymnasts from

-the Commonwealth Games...

-..professional boxers,

-MMA fighters and then me!

-We all proved what it takes

-to be part of the Special Forces.

-The SAS, Russian Spetsnaz

-and Navy Seals from all over...

-..put us through their entry tests.

-We were starved for 48 hours

-and only nibbled on Hobnobs.

-We performed some crazy task

-such as running against each other.

-We'd clash, but did our utmost

-then they'd ask you to lift a box.

-We'd all lug it up a mountain and

-find out we didn't need to do it.

-They also played with your mind.

-Some 1,000 contestants whittled down

-to 30 for the television series...

-..and in the end...

-Three of us reached the final.

-And were you named?

-Yes, I got there somehow!

-He rested up by travelling around

-India, Australia and New Zealand.

-It was here he was inspired

-to compete again...

-..in the iconic Coast-to-Coast Race.

-It's a famous competition from

-the World Multisport Championship.

-It's the original triathlon.

-You need a grade 2 in kayaking but

-I didn't know kayaking was involved!

-There wasn't any swimming, only

-kayaking down the Waimakariri Gorge.

-That's 72 kilometres of rapids, and

-I'd only been kayaking at Bala Lake!

-It sent shivers down my spine

-just thinking about it.

-It really scared me.

-The kayaking was followed

-by The Pioneer.

-It's a seven-day

-mountain bike race...

-..from Christchurch to Queenstown

-and it covered the southern alps.

-It opened another door for Huw.

-The UK's Outdoor Fitness magazine

-reports on outdoor pursuits...

-..and asked me to write for them.

-It was their first online feature

-in the Welsh language.

-The response was great and now

-I only write articles in Welsh.

-An article needs to be humorous.

-I could feature me injuring myself

-or falling off a mountain bike.

-It must also provide information on

-how to start from the beginning...

-..and reach these extreme races.

-But what lies ahead in 2017?

-The Dragon's Back Race

-starts in Conwy...

-..meanders through Snowdonia to

-the Brecon Beacons, over five days.
