-We start the programme in Cardiff

-I'm in the heart of the roses,

-carnations and sunflowers.

-Eglwys Dewi Sant in Cardiff

-has opened its doors...

-..for a flower festival that also

-celebrates our Celtic saints.

-Earlier, I joined Margaret Hughes

-who is one of the organizers.

-We're celebrating 60 years of

-Eglwys Dewi Sant in this building.

-We've had many events

-to celebrate the milestone...

-..but a flower festival

-was part of the program.

-I suggested the topic of "In the

-Footsteps of the Celtic Saints."

-By suggesting something,

-it means you have to do the work!

-The Celtic saints, their history and

-stories are part of our heritage.

-They are part

-of our oral tradition...

-..which is why they vary, have been

-extended and adapted over the years.

-Can you explain the significance

-of the exterior of the church?

-The pathway to our door

-is decorated with shoes...

-..as the title is "In the Footsteps

-of the Celtic Saints."

-We asked people for their shoes to

-be decorated by our Sunday School.

-This incorporates the title

-within the church.

-Tell us more about the saints

-who feature here.

-There's an arrangement for Dyfrig...

-..who was the first bishop

-and archbishop of Llandaff.

-The arrangement

-features a coracle...

-..which was important to the saints

-and especially Dyfrig.

-Whilst on ministerial missions...

-..they would travel down

-the Wye River in their coracles...

-..and go out to sea

-in larger vessels.

-There's also the story of a saint

-from North Wales.

-North Wales has more churches

-dedicated to Beuno than anyone else.

-We also associate him

-with Clynnog Fawr.

-It's home to an ancient wooden chest

-that belonged to Beuno...

-..and it's a strong,

-heavy chest with iron bands.

-David and Non

-take pride of place in the altar.

-All the flowers are white...

-..and we have two white doves that

-are often used to portray David.

-The flowers also represent

-the rising of the land.

-Come and see the flowers and

-some of our dramatic arrangements.

-is a florist and he's here tonight.

-Last year, you were

-at the Chelsea Flower Show...

-..but what are you doing at the

-Eglwys Dewi Sant flower festival?

-I've been invited by the committee

-to host the opening night...

-..with various arrangements

-about the saints of Ceredigion.

-I'll concentrate on St Ffraid,

-St Ursula, St Ceitho...

-..as well as St David...

-..because his name is taken by the

-church and he's our patron saint.

-It's the perfect way to finish

-an event that's full of flowers.

-You're going to do

-a special arrangement for us.

-Yes, I'll do something small.

-I hope you like it

-and it represents St David.

-I'll let you get on with it.

-Ann Mears has arranged some

-of the flowers and has a florist.

-Yes, and I thoroughly enjoy it

-as flowers are so beautiful...

-..and you can be creative

-at these events or in weddings.

-It's about giving to people

-by creating something incredible.

-I think he's doing very well as

-he's almost finished the greenery.

-It's a quiz book about the Lions.

-Welcome to the programme, Matthew.

-Thank you.

-Tell us more about yourself first.

-I started writing books in 2008.

-I knew Dad liked rugby and quizzes.

-I couldn't find a book for him.

-I decided to write my own book.

-I contacted Y Lolfa.

-This book was about Welsh rugby.

-I did another book

-about Welsh sport...

-..and another about Welsh rugby...

-..and then this book came about.

-It's quite timely too.

-There's 50 rounds in this book.

-I had to check my facts.

-I was in and out of the library.

-I had to get my facts right.

-I also needed a balance between

-the questions that are easy...

-..and those that are more difficult.

-Do you enjoy writing a quiz format?

-It's easier to write

-in a quiz format.

-I think I'd have to be

-a better author...

-..if I was writing a history book!

-You have to cram in the facts.

-The facts go back to 1888.

-There's a lot of questions

-over the history of the the Lions.

-The Lions Rugby Quiz Book

-Heno has often featured the

-Carmarthen cyclist, Scott Davies.

-We're delighted

-to congratulate Scott tonight...

-..for winning the British Cycling's

-Under-23 National Time Trial...

-..for the fourth consecutive time.

-This has never been done before

-so a huge congratulations to Scott.

-In a matter of days, the Lions tour

-of New Zealand gets underway.

-The team face its first test match

-against the All Blacks on Saturday.

-We chatted with some former Lions

-from Wales about their tours.

-THE TOUR.

-The thing I remember most about

-the tours in my time of playing...

-..is that we were there for three

-months so could travel around.

-The locals said that we'd seen more

-of the country than them!

-It's very intense

-because they live and breathe rugby.

-During the Lions tours,

-they raise their game...

-..and we were always

-under the spotlight.

-PRIDE.

-I hadn't played for Wales

-when I was chosen for the 1966 tour.

-It was so unexpected.

-I thought they were joking when I

-heard I'd been chosen for the Lions.

-I can't describe how honoured I felt

-to be chosen for the Lions.

-It was quite odd because I hadn't

-been on a Lions tour before.

-Clive Woodward was our coach and had

-a very different style of coaching.

-It was a huge squad and we did

-a lot of training out there.

-We had chefs and spin doctors

-so it was a lot to take in.

-IN UNITY, THERE'S STRENGTH.

-You face these players

-in the Six Nations...

-..and take chunks out of yourself

-..but they are just like you

-when you meet them.

-They are great players

-who want to win.

-The easiest thing you can do

-is share a few pints together.

-MEMORIES.

-You would play on a Saturday,

-travel on a Sunday...

-..and spend time settling in

-before going to a Gymanfa Ganu.

-John Taylor got us singing

-in every language.

-It created a wonderful spirit.

-I remember one occasion

-with Willie John McBride...

-..and we were hunting wild boar

-on the mountains.

-I'll never forget going into

-the mountains with our guide.

-We came back

-and McBride said to me...

-.."Del, never volunteer

-to go hunting again."

-He almost killed me!

-Before the third test,

-Woodward had named his team.

-Myself, Gavin Henson, Gareth Cooper,

-Gordon D'Arcy weren't chosen...

-..so we went to Queenstown

-for two days and had a few pints.

-The newspaper the following day...

-..had a photograph of me,

-Gavin Henson and Gareth Cooper...

-..all topless and singing karaoke!

-We missed that test

-but it was a lot of fun.

-THE HOPE.

-I think he's chosen the right team

-with a lot of exciting players.

-I always say that the winner

-of the first test will win the tour.

-I'm not going to bet on that!

-If the Lions win the first test,

-they could win the whole thing.

-It's great to hear the players

-reminiscing about their tours.

-Who is your favourite Lion?

-Ieuan Evans was my favourite Lion.

-It's time for us to head back to

-Yvonne and Donald's masterpiece.

-How does it look, Yvonne?

-I have to admit

-that this is incredible.

-What have you added

-to the arrangement, Donald?

-There's some greenery that includes

-some eucalyptus and fennel...

-..because St David enjoyed herbs

-and water as he was a vegetarian.

-I've also got cabbage, leek

-and a cauliflower made from flowers.

-There's also Passion red roses,

-Shamrock Green chrysanthemums...

-..green anthuriums,

-molucella and campanula.

-Red, white and green conveys Wales

-and St David so it's very colourful.

-During St David's life, he didn't

-have a lot of these flowers.

-Today, we want it to look dignified.

-I love the red, white and green.

-Donald did this

-in less than ten minutes.

-How much would you give it

-out of ten, Ann?

-I think he deserves twelve because

-he's standing there and it's great.

-How do you feel about

-twelve out of ten, Donald?

-I think she's being a creep

-in case I take this home with me!

-She'll have fun tonight and will

-give me more than twelve later.

-It's an important festival as you're

-raising money too, Reverend Dyfrig.

-The proceeds are shared between the

-Marie Curie Hospice in Penarth...

-..and the maintenance

-of Eglwys Dewi Sant in Cardiff.

-How long is the festival running,

-It's open each day

-from 10.30am to 6.00pm...

-..and midday to 6.00pm on Sunday

-and you're all welcome.

-to meet the man himself...

-..and reminds us of the

-importance of the charity.

-Ty Gobaith in Conwy is one

-of two hospices in North Wales...

-..that offers invaluable end-of-life

-care to children and young people.

-The charity is always developing to

-ensure it offers various services.

-All our services are essential.

-We now employ a neonatal nurse

-for very premature babies.

-A total of a third of our work has

-been extended into the community.

-We continue to provide end-of-life

-care for those up to the age of 25.

-Our work is never-ending.

-It's important to note

-that Ty Gobaith is a charity.

-You're totally dependent

-on donations from the public.

-Yes, and in order to offer all our

-services in both our hospices...

-..we have to raise 6.3 million

-every year.

-The non-statutory support would only

-keep us open for 23 days a year.

-This proves that we're dependent

-on voluntary donations.

-Gwynn Williams from Rhyl regularly

-raises money for Ty Gobaith.

-He's given himself the incredible

-challenge of wing walking...

-..or standing on the wings

-of a plane whilst it's in flight...

-..and he has a very good reason

-for setting himself this challenge.

-My family is grateful to the site

-after losing Mali aged three.

-The care they give to small children

-is incredible...

-..and so is their bereavement care

-for parents.

-That's why I'm doing it.

-A lot of people host coffee mornings

-or sing in concerts...

-..but you're doing a wing walk!

-I'm a member of the

-Trelawnyd Male Voice Choir...

-..and when I told the lads about it,

-they sad, "Are you mad?!"

-Where did you get the idea

-to do a wing walk?

-I had flying lessons in Liverpool

-and it stemmed from there.

-It's something

-I've always wanted to do.

-I could imagine myself standing on

-the plane so that's how it started.

-You're 83 years old

-but decided to do it now.

-Yes, I'm 83 going on 17!

-Who knows what I'll do next?

-I keep fit and this solar panel

-helps to charge my batteries!

-I'll do my best.

-Everyone at Ty Gobaith is so

-grateful to all the fund-raisers...

-..but Gwynn's challenge

-is fantastic!

-It's amazing that he's doing the

-wing walk because I couldn't do it.

-Gwynn's challenge is fantastic

-and he's so brave.

-The money he raises will help us

-to create memories in the playroom.

-It's so important to the children

-and their families.

-as without him and our supporters..
