-the Choir of the Festival trophy.

-Owain Gwynedd has been to Llandysul

-to meet Ioan Lloyd.

-The 14-year-old is making a name

-for himself in the rallying world.

-This afternoon, our cameras were

-invited to Ysgol Bryn Tawe school...

-..to witness the unveiling

-of their brand new mural.

-Sioned Webb, Arfon Gwilym

-and Mair Tomos Ifans...

-..will also join us to discuss the

-resurgence in May Day traditions.

-We'll also head from the studio

-to Elin Fflur at Galeri, Caernarfon.

-I'm excited to say that tomorrow's

-Heno will leave the Llanelli studio.

-We start tonight by looking back at

-the weekend's Pan Celtic Festival.

-Let's see how our folk dancers

-and singers got on...

-..and who picked up

-the Choir of the Festival trophy.

-The Pan Celtic Festival

-offers a feast of entertainment...

-..from street performances to a fair

-and merriment around the pubs.

-There's also some fierce competition

-and the Welsh made their mark...

-..in the folk and choral contests

-once again this year...

-..with The Magee Brothers

-winning the group category.

-We're the Magee Brothers and we beat

-seven others in the group category.

-We've also been performing around

-the pubs in Carlow which was great.

-I haven't been to the festival

-for several decades.

-I must admit that it has evolved

-with it atmosphere and organization.

-Every country brings their styles

-and traditions together.

-But the standard is great

-and the atmosphere is wonderful.

-It's been an impossible task

-to judge everyone but I've enjoyed.

-Second place in the folk group

-went to Gwilym, Bethany and Gethin.

-Gwilym Bowen Rhys came first in

-the solo folk singing competition.

-Bethany Celyn came a close second.

-It was a massive competition

-with 14 competitors in total.

-Everyone sang

-in their own languages.

-I was the last one on stage

-out of 14 others.

-I feel truly honoured

-that I won this lovely prize.

-I came third last night...

-..and have been a piano accompanist

-for Cadi who won Can i Gymru.

-I judged the solo folk singing

-and it was a fantastic competition.

-Many of the Welsh excelled

-and Anni Llyn also won an award.

-She won it for best original song.

-Anni was part of the folk dancing

-group, Dawnswyr Talog that also won.

-Her husband, Tudur Phillips

-won for his solo step dance.

-I wrote a song called Lon i Llyn

-a few years ago.

-The song is about feeling low

-and returning home.

-And home for me

-is the Lleyn Peninsula.

-Following five hours of singing,

-Tonic won Best Traditional Choir.

-Cor Rhuthin was also successful.

-We're incredibly lucky to come first

-in the male voice choir competition.

-We're also delighted that

-our ladies choir came first.

-But the greatest pleasure

-came from this group behind me.

-Cytgan Clwyd are a talented bunch

-and enjoy the best opportunities.

-The Pan Celtic trophy for 2017

-goes to Cor Cytgan Clwyd.

-Cytgan Clwyd won four categories

-- youth, mixed, open choirs...

-..and of course

-the Pan Celtic Choir title.

-We didn't expect to come

-and win for the second time.

-The choir is fantastic.

-They listen to my instructions

-and attend every rehearsal.

-I'm becoming emotional

-but they were fantastic.

-Morwen is an important member of the

-team and a wonderful accompanist.

-# Oh, Wales, oh, Wales!

-# You are the only country for me #

-The competition was fantastic.

-The standard was impeccable

-in the last competition.

-The day has been...

-Sorry, I'm in bits here!

-# You are my heaven! #

-Congratulations to everyone who

-competed at the Pan Celtic Festival.

-We'll have more from the festival

-Our spring photography competition

-is well underway.

-that May Day is around the corner.

-Tonight, we welcome Sioned Webb,

-Arfon Gwilym and Mair Thomas Ifans.

-They have a campaign to revive

-our traditional summer carols.

-Welcome to the studio.

-Thank you.

-It's strange to say carols.

-I associate them with Christmas.

-But they are sung

-throughout the year.

-You also have Plygain carols.

-However, the May Day carols

-have faded with time.

-We're aware of a few traditions

-associated with May Day...

-..but we're not too sure about

-the carols that are associated.

-There's a tradition that's similar

-to what's done on New Year's Day.

-You want to revive an old tradition.

-We'd like to bring

-the old traditions back to life.

-I asked Arfon and Sioned

-to help me in doing this.

-We decided to publish

-a collection of May Day carols.

-We published at a beautiful church.

-There are new compositions

-in the book.

-Before I started compiling the book,

-I was given a few new carols.

-I thought that it was suitable

-to include them in the book.

-The Plygain format has been

-very popular in recent years.

-We didn't opt for a SATB format.

-We decided to follow the Plygain

-format of three voices.

-Let's hear Sioned, Arfon and Mair

-perform a May Day carol for us.

-# The Earth is greening

-and the trees are growing

-# And beautiful are the buds

-and the leaves on the meadows

-# And the orchards

-are full of blossoms

-# The birds sang

-harmoniously together

-# To see the trees coming into leaf

-makes them carol

-# Harmonising throughout

-our beautiful valley

-# The great fruitful Earth

-with all her treasure is sufficient

-# To feed her inhabitants

-with ease every day

-# If only we men,

-in a state of peace

-# Would love each another

-with one heart #

-That was wonderful.

-That was a Ioan ap Howell carol.

-The book will be launched on 1 May

-at Lasynys and Talsarnau.

-We'll be in Lasynys, Harlech

-at 11.00am.

-We'll be at Talsarnau at 12.30pm.

-We'll be singing a few of the carols

-from the book.

-There will be workshops for those

-unfamiliar with the songs.

-We'll have lots of fun, I'm sure.

-Ioan Lloyd is busy making

-a name for himself in rallying.

-We met the 14-year old ahead of

-an important rally in Harlech.

-We also visit the pupils

-of Ysgol Bryn Tawe school...

-..to witness the grand unveiling of

-their mural to celebrate Welshness.

-First, we must congratulate

-the brave London Marathon runners.

-Next, we enter the rallying world

-to meet a star of the future...

-..who will soon compete

-in his biggest competition to date.

-The Formula 1 and rallying season

-has already started...

-..and the world's best drivers

-are displaying their talents.

-However, it's vital to start young

-to become the best at any sports.

-Ioan Lloyd from Llandysul

-is certainly on the right track.

-The 14-year-old debuted in the

-Junior 1000 Rally championship...

-..a championship for drivers

-between 14 and 17 in 1000cc cars.

-He certainly made an impact

-during his first three rallies.

-This year, he's one of the

-favourites to win the championship.

-I did in my first rally in Pembrey

-in September with Julian Reynolds.

-I thoroughly enjoyed it

-and caught the rallying bug.

-This season, you've already

-competed in one rally in Anglesey.

-We finished fourth overall

-and came first amongst the Micras.

-I was chuffed with the result.

-His co-driver is now Ryland James

-who was once his father's navigator.

-Drivers and co-drivers

-have relationship based on trust.

-He's an old head on young shoulders

-and rallying is in his blood.

-He enjoys what he's doing

-and that's important in any sport.

-I got to know Ryland

-when I started out in rallying.

-We've since become firm friends

-and he's a good family friend.

-It was evident from early on

-that Ioan enjoyed rallying.

-I didn't need to push him

-into the sport.

-From a very young age, he's had

-a keen interest in motorsport.

-Ioan loves anything

-with wheels and an engine.

-I was impressed with Ioan during

-the first round of the championship.

-He's been karting for many years

-and it's helped him progress.

-Karting teaches youngsters

-about the correct racing lines.

-My father has been rallying

-with Ryland for many years.

-I always enjoyed watching

-and helping out with the servicing.

-Once I had a go, I was hooked.

-Gareth must be pleased that a good

-friend is keeping an eye on Ioan.

-At the split, go left again.

-What are your hopes for the rally

-in Harlech over the weekend?

-I've never been there before

-but I'm looking forward to it.

-I'm hoping for a good run

-without any mechanical issues.

-Ioan's father, Gareth has also

-experienced great rallying success.

-He came second behind Jimmy McRae

-in the RAC rally in 2006.

-He's also a three-times consecutive

-British Historic Rally Champion.

-He's quite the driver.

-I hope to follow in his footsteps.

-If I were to challenge you both

-to a lap in this car, who would win?

-I'm not sure

-but it would probably be him!

-I'm hoping to find

-a corner that I can cut...

-..because this is where Ioan

-comes to practise on his kart.

-He knows the track well but I'd like

-to give him a run for his money.

-Age and weight

-are very important in a rally car.

-Therefore, I'd put my money on Ioan

-- but don't tell Gareth!

-Three, two, one - go!

-The father and son

-are experienced drivers...

-..and it was clear from the off

-that the times would be close.

-How did that feel?

-How did that feel?

-That was hard work.

-It felt fine despite missing a gear.

-I'll reveal Ioan's time first.

-Ioan's time was 37.8 seconds.

-Gareth's time was...

-..39.12 seconds!

-It's all down to his weight!

-It's a busy time for our schools.

-The summer seems far away as pupils

-prepare for the upcoming exams.

-However,

-at Ysgol Bryn Tawe school...

-..there's something to put a smile

-on the faces of pupils and teachers.

-I wanted the youngsters to celebrate

-their Welshness in a creative way.

-We asked

-the Arts Council of Wales...

-..if we could paint a mural

-to celebrate Welshness in Swansea.

-It was decided to paint the mural

-here at Ysgol Bryn Tawe school...

-..as it's a school that does some

-incredible work in the community.

-A group of very enthusiastic pupils

-painted the entire mural in a week.

-My initial thought was

-that it was colourful and bright.

-The final piece is very striking and

-it gives a nice feel to the school.

-It's great to see the Swans and

-the Ospreys included in the mural.

-There are also references

-to local poets and Welsh sayings.

-We've been helped by Beth from

-the Welsh Language Initiative.

-Gwenllian Beynon also helped

-to design and pain the mural.

-The pupils have worked very hard

-and painted for six whole days.

-They even came in for a day

-during the Easter holidays.

-Many hours and plenty of patience

-and persistence was involved too.

-I helped with the design process

-with Beth and Gwenllian.

-I also helped to paint the wall.

-It was lots of work...

-..but the work was made easier

-as we were among friends.

-We were never bored

-and we had a good time.

-It was lots of fun and a good

-experience to work with strangers.

-I love the boombox that states

-that we're still alive and kicking.

-You have to take a moment to

-appreciate the work in its entirety.

-Our services are normally held in

-this room but they aren't much fun.

-However, the colourful walls

-will raise our spirits.

-I feel proud to be Welsh

-when I look at the mural.

-Exams are around the corner so

-I hope the mural will inspire them.

-It raises their spirits and

-puts a smile on everyone's faces.

-It's a great way

-to celebrate the pupils' Welshness.

-I hope that our pupils will remember

-some of the adages on the mural...

-..and make them feel proud of

-their language and of our country.
