-My name's Irfon. | 0:24:54 | 0:24:55
-Irfon Williams. | 0:24:55 | 0:24:56
-Some of you may know me. | 0:24:56 | 0:24:58
-I'm here to talk about a subject... | 0:24:59 | 0:25:02
-..that people don't discuss much. | 0:25:03 | 0:25:06
-That subject is mental health. | 0:25:06 | 0:25:09
-Do you know what mental health is? | 0:25:10 | 0:25:13
-No? | 0:25:13 | 0:25:14 | |
-Do you know what stress is? | 0:25:14 | 0:25:16
-You all know what stress is. | 0:25:17 | 0:25:19
-OK. | 0:25:19 | 0:25:20 | |
-Do the teachers know what stress is? | 0:25:20 | 0:25:23
-Do you create stress for teachers?! | 0:25:24 | 0:25:26
-Or do they cause stress for you? | 0:25:27 | 0:25:29
-I thought as much! | 0:25:30 | 0:25:31
-I wanted to create a company -where I could share experiences. | 0:25:32 | 0:25:37
-This gives me a huge buzz. | 0:25:39 | 0:25:42
-It's something -about which I feel strongly. | 0:25:42 | 0:25:45
-Mental health. | 0:25:45 | 0:25:47
-Being able to go out and discuss -mental health with the public. | 0:25:47 | 0:25:52
-With people who live under stress -from day to day. | 0:25:52 | 0:25:57
-It affects us all. | 0:25:59 | 0:26:00
-We must get rid of the stigma -associated with mental health. | 0:26:03 | 0:26:08
-I feel that the way to do so -is by talking about it. | 0:26:08 | 0:26:11
-I hope that my work -will help to reduce that stigma. | 0:26:13 | 0:26:18
-SOUND OF BREAKING WIND | 0:26:20 | 0:26:21
-Excuse me. I have to explain -the sound of breaking wind. | 0:26:22 | 0:26:25
-I have a colostomy -because I've been ill. | 0:26:25 | 0:26:28
-It happens with no warning, and it's -a bit rude, so please excuse me! | 0:26:28 | 0:26:33
-Some of you may know. | 0:26:33 | 0:26:35
-Two years ago, I got cancer. | 0:26:35 | 0:26:37
-Bowel cancer. | 0:26:38 | 0:26:40
-As a result, -I had a section of my bowel removed. | 0:26:40 | 0:26:44
-Unfortunately, -that meant they had to move... | 0:26:45 | 0:26:48
-..where my body got rid of waste. | 0:26:48 | 0:26:51
-I now have a hole in my stomach, -and a bag. | 0:26:51 | 0:26:55
-The wind comes from there, -and I can't control it. | 0:26:55 | 0:26:58
-She thinks it's hilarious! | 0:26:58 | 0:27:00
-When it happens at home, -my kids think it's hilarious too. | 0:27:03 | 0:27:06
-They come to this school, and they -laugh out loud when it happens. | 0:27:07 | 0:27:11
-Thank you for coming today. -I'm sure we've all learnt a lot. | 0:27:12 | 0:27:16
-We'll all remember -the three important words. | 0:27:16 | 0:27:20
-I'm sure everyone enjoyed it. | 0:27:20 | 0:27:23
-Sion! | 0:27:34 | 0:27:35
-Ready, Nel? | 0:27:36 | 0:27:37
-Go, Nel! | 0:27:39 | 0:27:40
-Very good. | 0:27:41 | 0:27:42
-Ready? | 0:27:42 | 0:27:43
-Go! | 0:27:43 | 0:27:44 | |
-Rugby has always been -close to my heart. | 0:27:45 | 0:27:47
-I've been with the coaching team -here for years. | 0:27:47 | 0:27:51
-I'm better now, and ready -for more treatment next week. | 0:27:55 | 0:27:59
-I've looked forward -to this operation for a while. | 0:27:59 | 0:28:03
-I wasn't sure it would happen, -but they're reversing the colostomy. | 0:28:03 | 0:28:08
-That's great, -and one less thing to worry about. | 0:28:08 | 0:28:12
-It's a matter of dignity. | 0:28:14 | 0:28:16
-It can sometimes leak, -it can burst. | 0:28:16 | 0:28:20
-It has happened to me in social -situations, which wasn't nice. | 0:28:20 | 0:28:24
-I'm looking forward -to sitting on the toilet again... | 0:28:29 | 0:28:34
-..and having somewhere -where I can read the paper in peace. | 0:28:34 | 0:28:38
-The operation isn't a success. | 0:28:48 | 0:28:51
-He learns that the cancer -has spread further. | 0:28:54 | 0:28:58
-We got the news on Monday... | 0:29:00 | 0:29:04
-..that the cancer has spread. | 0:29:04 | 0:29:08
-I've had two days... | 0:29:09 | 0:29:12
-..of feeling very sad. | 0:29:13 | 0:29:15
-Very low, to be honest... | 0:29:16 | 0:29:17
-..with the boys at school. | 0:29:19 | 0:29:21
-I just lay in bed... | 0:29:22 | 0:29:25
-..feeling scared, I think. | 0:29:25 | 0:29:28
-I'm afraid of what's to come. | 0:29:28 | 0:29:31
-But... | 0:29:32 | 0:29:33
-..I looked in the mirror... | 0:29:34 | 0:29:36
-..and thought to myself, come on! | 0:29:36 | 0:29:38
-Hello! | 0:29:40 | 0:29:41
-Are you alright, boys? | 0:29:45 | 0:29:47
-Dad, can I use your... | 0:29:47 | 0:29:49
-Can I have a kiss first?! | 0:29:50 | 0:29:52
-Ooh, nice to see you. | 0:29:58 | 0:29:59
-Straight for the sweets! | 0:30:00 | 0:30:02
-This is how my stomach looks now. | 0:30:06 | 0:30:08
-I have an open scar here... | 0:30:10 | 0:30:13
-..and another one here. | 0:30:15 | 0:30:16
-The wounds are packed -with dressings daily. | 0:30:16 | 0:30:20
-I've got a drain here -for whatever collects there. | 0:30:20 | 0:30:27
-Blood and what have you. | 0:30:27 | 0:30:29
-These are old scars -from previous operations. | 0:30:31 | 0:30:34
-It's a bit uncomfortable, -but it's less painful than it was... | 0:30:35 | 0:30:40
-..two, three, four days ago. | 0:30:40 | 0:30:42
-There we are. | 0:30:43 | 0:30:44
-I look like a pregnant man. | 0:30:44 | 0:30:46
-Christmas 2016 | 0:30:53 | 0:30:55
-The cancer -has now spread to the lungs. | 0:30:56 | 0:30:59
-After the last operation... | 0:31:08 | 0:31:11
-..I felt very strongly... | 0:31:12 | 0:31:14
-..that I wasn't sure... | 0:31:15 | 0:31:16
-..if I could go through -being so ill again. | 0:31:17 | 0:31:20
-I was offered an operation -on both lungs... | 0:31:23 | 0:31:26
-..to remove the cancer, the tumours. | 0:31:27 | 0:31:30
-That would mean two spells -of being ill again... | 0:31:31 | 0:31:36
-..because they could only treat -one lung at a time. | 0:31:36 | 0:31:40
-There's no guarantee... | 0:31:42 | 0:31:45
-..that the surgery -would get rid of the cancer. | 0:31:45 | 0:31:50
-It has also spread -to other parts of my body. | 0:31:51 | 0:31:55
-The stomach and so on. | 0:31:55 | 0:31:58
-Of course... | 0:32:00 | 0:32:01
-..it's important for me to accept... | 0:32:02 | 0:32:05
-..that I'm not going -to get rid of the cancer now. | 0:32:07 | 0:32:13
-Cool! | 0:32:19 | 0:32:20
-It's difficult at times. | 0:32:22 | 0:32:24
-I do get emotional sometimes... | 0:32:24 | 0:32:26
-..especially when I do things -with the children. | 0:32:27 | 0:32:30
-Sausages! | 0:32:30 | 0:32:33
-Sion asked if he could read me -a story the other day. | 0:32:35 | 0:32:40
-It was a story about two bears. | 0:32:40 | 0:32:43
-A father and son, -saying that they loved each other. | 0:32:44 | 0:32:47
-At the end, Sion said, -"That's how I feel about you, Dad." | 0:32:47 | 0:32:52
-That hit me straight away. | 0:32:52 | 0:32:55
-That... | 0:32:57 | 0:32:58
-..the future for the boys -will be one without a father. | 0:33:01 | 0:33:05
-But, on the other hand... | 0:33:06 | 0:33:08
-..I'm in no hurry to go. | 0:33:09 | 0:33:12
-I'm healthy in myself. | 0:33:12 | 0:33:14
-I'm not suffering any symptoms -from the tumours that I have. | 0:33:14 | 0:33:19
-I've got over -the last surgery, again... | 0:33:20 | 0:33:22
-..even though I was very ill. | 0:33:24 | 0:33:26
-I think that my strength... | 0:33:27 | 0:33:29
-..will help to keep me alive -for quite a while... | 0:33:30 | 0:33:33
-..or at least long enough -to enjoy a lot more things in life. | 0:33:34 | 0:33:39
-Time with all my children... | 0:33:40 | 0:33:42
-..extended family, -friends and so on. | 0:33:44 | 0:33:47
-I now live to enjoy every day. | 0:33:47 | 0:33:51
-I'm planning fun things to do... | 0:33:51 | 0:33:55
-..big and small. | 0:33:56 | 0:33:58
-Things I've always wanted to do. | 0:33:58 | 0:34:00
-There's nothing overly major. | 0:34:02 | 0:34:04
-I'm happy with my life. | 0:34:04 | 0:34:06
-I've had great experiences -during my life. | 0:34:06 | 0:34:09
-I've achieved things -that some people wouldn't achieve... | 0:34:09 | 0:34:13
-..if they lived to be a hundred. | 0:34:13 | 0:34:15
-I'm grateful for that. | 0:34:16 | 0:34:18
-The most important thing -is to remember... | 0:34:21 | 0:34:24
-..even that there's no possibility -that I'll recover from cancer now... | 0:34:27 | 0:34:33
-..is that I've given it -quite a hammering. | 0:34:34 | 0:34:38
-I've raised awareness of it. | 0:34:39 | 0:34:42
-In the future, I hope... | 0:34:47 | 0:34:48
-..that my work will help others... | 0:34:50 | 0:34:53
-..who are suffering. | 0:34:53 | 0:34:55
-Sorry. | 0:35:00 | 0:35:01
-Not at all. | 0:35:02 | 0:35:03
-Here's your blackberry tart. | 0:35:12 | 0:35:14
-Yeah! | 0:35:14 | 0:35:15
-OK, made by my own hand. | 0:35:16 | 0:35:18
-I know it's always important -to get together... | 0:35:26 | 0:35:30
-..but it was even more so for me -this Christmas... | 0:35:30 | 0:35:33
-..given all that's happened. | 0:35:33 | 0:35:35
-Not that I want -to be morbid or anything... | 0:35:35 | 0:35:39
-..but the way I feel now... | 0:35:40 | 0:35:42
-..we'll have to do it again -next Christmas! | 0:35:42 | 0:35:45
-It's been nice -to have everyone together. | 0:35:45 | 0:35:48
-It's nice for you... | 0:35:50 | 0:35:51
-Did you see what I put on Facebook? | 0:35:51 | 0:35:53
-All the children. | 0:35:55 | 0:35:56
-All the children. - -I love having all five together. | 0:35:56 | 0:35:59
-It doesn't happen very often. | 0:36:00 | 0:36:04
-OK, Ianto Huw? | 0:36:05 | 0:36:07
-Don't play it yet. | 0:36:09 | 0:36:10
-Good boy. | 0:36:11 | 0:36:12
-Have you had pudding? | 0:36:12 | 0:36:13
-Have you had pudding? | 0:36:13 | 0:36:15
-There are cakes in there. | 0:36:15 | 0:36:17
-They love it. | 0:36:21 | 0:36:22
-They love it. - -Yes. | 0:36:22 | 0:36:23
-It's nice to put it on Facebook. | 0:36:23 | 0:36:27
-People realize -that you interact with us all. | 0:36:27 | 0:36:32
-It is nice, because they often -only see Sion and Ianto. | 0:36:33 | 0:36:36
-Even though you're older, -this affects you, Owen and Beca. | 0:36:37 | 0:36:41
-It's different for us -because we don't live with you. | 0:36:41 | 0:36:46
