Anti-Gravity Bands Rank the Prank

Warning, kids like you are on the loose with big explosions,

big stunts and big laughs.

Please do not try any of these at home...

..except for the laughs. LAUGHTER

Imagine if you had the chance to play epic pranks

on an unsuspecting public,

and access to the best special effects artists in the world,

and imagine if a panel of Ranksters thinks your Public Prank is so good,

you get to stage a Mega Prank on a target of your choice.

Well, quit imagining. This is Rank The Prank.

Which teams are battling today? Let's meet the Green team.

-I'm Aengus.

-And I'm Luca.

-..the Prank Devils!

We're really good friends cos not only do we both have so much

in common, but we're both amazing pranksters

and we get up to all kinds of mischief together.

In our Public Prank, a boy and his mum are going

to be testing hover boots.

The boots go...and just fly away into the sky.

If we get through to the Mega Prank,

our target will be our rugby team coach.

Our coaches are always in charge of us.

This time, it's going to be us who's going to be controlling them.

You're never safe because the Prank Devils are out and about.

Well, I'd better make sure I'm staying in and going nowhere

with these two around.

Let's see what the Blue team has got.

-I'm Bella.

-And I'm Florrie.

-And we're...

-..the Dancing Divas.

The thing that makes me and Florrie such good friends is

we're quite hyper and a bit crazy so we just laugh so much.

For our Public Prank, we want to surprise everybody

and make them think we have superhuman strength.

If we make it to the Mega Prank, our target will be the whole class.

When we surprise them, they'll just burst out laughing.

Watch out, cos we're epic pranksters.

And we'll be there when you least expect it.

Well, you just told us, so I'm expecting it now, girls.

But the teams aren't alone.

We have some special effects experts to help bring their pranks to life.

I'm Danny Hargreaves.

I'm a physical special effects supervisor.

I've worked on many productions,

including Star Wars, Sherlock and Doctor Who.

I actually blow up monsters for a living.

That's my job.

If a script has something visually demanding,

it's my job to make it happen,

so that would include sparks, explosions or alien goo.

I mean, I could even change the weather.

I can, really, honestly.

So, come on, pranksters.

Make something up

and I will make it happen.

I can't believe you made me say that.

I can't believe you can actually change the weather, Danny.

Next thing, you'll be telling me Effectors can fly.

Oh, wait. Hang on a minute.

I'm Nick Porter,

supervising flying director.

I've worked in all kinds of TV and theatre shows,

including The X Factor and Harry Potter.

I use wire-based systems to help performers float in a space,

walk up walls and take to the skies.

So whatever you pranksters come up with, I can make it fly.

So with the Effectors on board, these pranks are ready to take off.

Today's location - a park.

Teams, welcome. Here we are. Would you like to go ahead

and explain to the girls what your plan is?

A boy and his mum are going to be testing out

a new pair of hover boots but they can't get it to work,

so they go to a stranger,

ask them for help and hand them the remote.

And then, something actually happens to the boots

as they start sparking, smoke starts coming out.

Aengus flies away into the sky and everybody's shocked.

After hearing the Prank Devils' idea,

it's made me a little bit more nervous.

So, girls, what are we doing?

A skip comes along and it accidentally drops

on one of our teddies and we're really upset

because we can't move the skip to get out the teddy.

And a worker will go and ask the public to come and help

pull the skip but no-one can do it,

so either me or Bella will go up and try and pull the skip

and we manage to do it

and all sparks are going to fly out from the floor.

The Dancing Divas' idea doesn't really make sense.

Like, who drops a teddy bear under a skip?

OK, boys. Well, you're up first.

So I think we should go and do this. Let's go.

Let's do it.

We have a pair of out-of-control hover boots

versus a teddy bear in need of rescuing.

Only one team will go through to stage a Mega Prank.

And only the Ranksters will decide

who faces the Ejector Button Of Doom.

First up, the Prank Devils.

I'm a little bit nervous but, at the same time, really excited.

They've come up with the idea of using rocket boots

to propel someone up into the air.

'We're going to make these rocket boots and I'm going to put a load'

of pyrotechnics inside

to create loads of sparks and loads of smoke.

I'm really looking forward to this one.

I think it's going to be really cool.

Here you go.

-Yeah?

-They look awesome.

-They look something that would just blast you off into space.

-Yeah.

This is, like, more than we expected.

What we've done, OK, is we've taken a standard ski boot

and we've adapted it.

So the battery pack will fire this propeller

which will blow loads of air down.

And then, we'll have some pyrotechnic sparks

coming out of here.

Underneath, we've got, like, a smoke cartridge

and some sparks as well.

I knew it was going to be really good,

but it was way more over-the-top

than I originally thought, in a good way.

-All right, then, guys, it's time to make you fly.

-Awesome.

I'm going to be providing a wire-lift system which we're going

to attach to a tree immediately behind them, and that gives me

the support to actually lift the weight of the boys

up in the air.

-Here we go. How does that feel?

-Yeah, it's good.

Whoa.

It looks really cool.

Resist the temptation to look down. Look more away to where the van is.

That's better.

There was a lot of ways I had to, kind of, position my body

so it looked authentic.

-It's not as easy as it looks, is it?

-No.

Everyone ready?

Three, two, one, fire.

BANG!

OK. Go, go, go.

It felt really, really cool and it was really thrilling.

It was so amazing to actually see something come to real life.

Boys, was that good? Did you like that?

That felt like one of the coolest things ever.

The Prank Devils are ready to blast off

with the first Public Prank.

The hidden cameras are rolling and everybody is in position,

ready to fly.

I just want it to start and then I just want to beat the other team.

The latest craze gripping the nation is hover boots.

What a shame that Aengus' fake mum can't get them to work.

Excuse me! Can you help me?

My son's just bought these hover boots

and I really don't think they work.

We got this remote control with it

and it doesn't seem to be doing anything at all.

They're just, like, making a buzzing noise.

-Get ready.

-Can you have a go?

Here we go.

Press that green button.

-Aengus! Get down!

-Mum! Oh, my God!

-Get down from that tree!

-They work!

All of the reactions were just priceless.

Tell them that that you're not very good with technology.

I'm not very good with technology. Do you just press that green button?

FAKE MUM SCREAMS

Luca! Get down! I'll go and get your dad.

They're not working.

I was not expecting this when I came to the park.

The sparks were going everywhere.

-I thought maybe his feet were going to blow off or something.

-Yeah.

It went really, really, really well.

We're getting ready for the Mega Prank

cos we know we're going to win this.

So the Prank Devils think they're moving on up with their prank,

but first, let's skip to the Dancing Divas.

I'm really excited about working with the Effectors

to see what they can do.

So the story is

this teddy bear is going to be trapped under a skip.

Nobody can move it, nobody can push it,

apart from this little girl.

We've got a real skip,

we're going to cut the bottom out of it, put it on casters.

I think it's going to be good fun.

So, girls, here we go.

Here's the skip, but we've done a few modifications to it.

We've got this section here, it's made of soft material.

Give it a push. Show me your superhuman strength.

Whoa! There you go.

The soft part looks exactly like the skip,

as you push it, it crumbles in,

an it basically looks like you've got super-strength.

-What do you reckon to that?

-That's really cool.

-So cool.

So my part in this prank is to move the skip for the girls

when they go to push it.

So the most challenging thing about this effect is making sure

that we don't move the skip at all until they push it

and prevent it from being moved by anybody else

in order to sell this as a really good illusion.

If we can pull it off, it'll be amazing.

As you can see, girls, we've got a wire coming from the back

of the skip here - that's going to be pulling the skip this way,

when you pretend to push on it.

And then, when Whit pulls it,

it means he can stand back out of sight.

Nick showed us how there's just this, like,

tiny little string and it can pull the whole skip.

But how does such a small wire pull such a big skip?

Well, it's a special wire and it's really strong,

strong enough to pull a double-decker bus.

-Oh, wow!

-Wow!

-That's so cool!

-So no problems.

So can we have a go?

Yeah, absolutely. I think we should go give it a shot.

Bella was pushing it before they were pulling it.

It was kind of, like, impossible

and we were really trying, but nothing couldn't move.

In three, two, one, go.

We actually got to kind of feel what it's like to be,

like, a superhero, really.

Now that we've seen how everything's going to work,

I just really want to get started.

-What do you think about that, Bella?

-That was so cool.

Now it's time for the second Public Prank.

The hidden cameras are rolling, Mr Fluffy is in position

and the girls are ready to show their superhuman strength.

I just can't wait. I'm, like, shaking cos I'm just so excited.

Ah! A lovely summer's day... No, wait!

Poor Fluffy's stuck under that massive skip.

Mr Fluffy!

If only someone big and strong could come along and help set them free.

There's a group of three people coming along.

I've had this skip delivered and this little girl,

I feel really sorry for her cos her teddy's stuck under it.

Mr Fluffy!

It needs to go back that much further.

-It's this side.

-It's this end, here.

We actually got to, kind of, feel like a superhero.

One, two, three...

THEY HEAVE

-No, it won't work.

-Keep them going. Keep them going.

-It's not going to work.

-No, look, we've tried and we failed.

-No, no, no. He's too delicate.

-Just leave it. Just leave her.

-Fine, I'll move it then.

-Just leave her.

Mr Fluffy!

'It was so funny.'

He was laughing his head off.

Mr Fluffy, I've had him since I was born.

-You've just dropped a skip on him!

-I'll ask this guy.

-Here they come, look.

-Look what she did to my teddy.

But I reckon, you know,

it doesn't need much budging if we get from the middle.

That's it. Push it. That's it.

-Let me try. Let me try.

-She's bossy, isn't she?

Ready? And push...!

-You lot are useless!

-Now, don't you be rude.

I'll have a go, then.

-NICK:

-He's going to try really hard. You watch.

-WOMAN:

-It's like on a pivot. So if you just push it, like...

Let me try. I could probably do it with my own finger.

Oh, wow!

And I didn't even need any of you!

She kicked a full skip out of the way, which was like, "Wow!"

I thought, "I'll try and help them."

And then a little girl moved it with her finger. Couldn't believe it.

That was a very good prank.

I think the prank went incredible.

I just really hope that we can do the Mega Prank

cos it would be amazing.

THEY CHUCKLE

I liked the hover boots prank because I thought it was, like,

really dramatic and it was a good use of special effects.

My favourite bit was the reactions from the people.

THEY LAUGH

The prank that was my favourite was the hover boots prank.

That was amazing.

I really liked the skip one because the little girl

who was doing it was like, "Oh, you're all useless."

And they couldn't do it and then she did it with, like,

her foot and her finger.

I really liked the skip one cos it was unexpected

that the girl was going to push the skip by herself.

THEY GASP

Both pranks were great. This is not an easy one for the Ranksters.

The hour of judgment is upon them.

It's up to the Ranksters who they like most.

But I'm fairly confident that it's going to be us.

Which team will make it through?

It's going to be a really tough decision.

We don't really know what's going to happen.

Fingers crossed!

through to the Mega Prank.

But what have the Effectors got in store

for their unlucky target?

Our Mega Prank target is our class at school.

They're always really mischievous and always prank us.

So we thought it would be the best idea to prank them.

I think the class are going to be so shocked

but kind of laughing at the same time.

And I think it'll be amazing.

Looks like their class is going to have a lesson in pranking.

Now for today's location - a theatre.

It's time to get this show on the road.

So, Nick and Danny, you did amazing in our Public Prank

and we cannot wait to see our Mega Prank.

So you chose this theatre, but why here?

We've invited your entire class to come to a special lecture

which is being given by an astronaut,

well-renowned scientist, Dr Peter Rank.

We made him up, all right? And because we've made him up,

we've made him an expert in anti-gravity technology

and he's developed these things - the anti-gravity energy bands.

Energy bands?

We're going to get your class to wear them and pretend

that they create anti-gravity.

You're going to go up on stage and help demonstrate

how these things work.

We're going to make you levitate some furniture into the air.

-That's amazing!

-Wow!

It's furniture that I've already rigged with wires.

Not only that - see that big bit of moon rock over there?

That's going to explode and erupt.

And then, finally, we're going to make you fly as well.

-Cool!

-So cool!

When the Effectors showed us the storyboard, I felt just amazed.

I think the idea is going to be amazing and I don't think the class

are going to realise what's happening.

'So to make this prank happen, we need to work with the girls

'to fit them with harnesses,

'train them to fly and hold themselves.'

-I'm going to try and clip you on. All right?

-This is crazy.

Nick is responsible for making all of the objects fly,

including us two.

So just up slowly please, Adam.

OK. Hold hands.

-THEY GIGGLE

-That's it. Good. How does that feel?

-It feels good.

-It's crazy!

I've always wanted to be Peter Pan!

We're just going to keep going up until we can get you out of view.

-This is so crazy.

-How are we going to get down?

There's a lot of components that have made up this prank.

The moon rock itself is made of polystyrene.

It's not a real piece of moon rock.

When Danny showed us the moon rock, I was so impressed and I had no idea

that he could pull it out the bag like that again.

Now I've seen everything the Effectors have done,

I am so excited to see what happens.

And I'm also so excited to see what the class thinks.

Calling all prank fans,

it's the moment you've been waiting for...

So, the theatre is ready for the science lecture.

And as the classmates file in, they have no idea that

Bella and Florrie are going to make it a lesson they'll never forget.

I felt a bit scared, but really excited.

They were all here to watch us do a prank on them.

We have a fake scientist,

who is going to put on a whole show for our class.

So I'd like you to join me in welcoming,

Take a seat. Dr Rank, what sorts of things can you share from your

experiences in the world of space?

OK, well, we can do a few little experiments.

So we're going to need some of these guys to help us out.

I don't know if any of you would be up for that?

I wonder who he's going to pick?

That little lady there, in the front row.

Let's have the two of you, OK?

We stood up and went onto the stage, and I was a bit like,

"Oh, no, this whole prank is relying on us."

If it doesn't go right, then it's going to all be our fault.

Now, if you go away with this lovely lady,

she's going to get you kitted out, because we'll need some

safety glasses and all the safety equipment that goes along with this.

So while the girls get into their harnesses,

Dr Rank demonstrates gravity.

..an apple dropped off a tree...

Impressive!

But don't worry, because as the girls get ready,

Dr Rank will demonstrate his anti-gravity bands.

Within this coil, we've found a way of harnessing gravity,

so we can pull gravity out of an object.

Just going to slip this on here.

If I pour my energy through this arm.

-Just into here?

-Just into that bowl of apples.

An apple in the centre, which I am going to lift.

-There's a little buzz...

-Oh, my goodness me!

A little buzz going up.

Oh, my goodness, can you see that?!

-You see that?

-That's incredible!

Now, the science here is

I am pulling the gravity out of the apple.

It's leaving the apple and going into the bracelet.

-It's contained in these coils.

-Oh, my goodness me!

-I'm concentrating my energy.

-That is incredible.

It has to work kind of slowly at the moment.

There we go, and it's back down.

Oh, well done! I mean, that's absolutely incredible!

-Some people were like...

-GASPS

Whoa!

Well, we can go bigger than that,

with a little help from Bella and Florrie.

-Let's get our volunteers back.

-Are you there, girls?

Ah, here they go. They look like scientists, OK.

They look like scientists,

because the lab coats are hiding their harnesses. Sneaky!

Straighten out the arm. Straight out, that's it.

Now, everyone concentrate on that,

and it will suck the gravity into the master....

There goes the first one, there goes the second one!

-OK!

-Oh, my goodness!

When the chairs were levitating, their jaws dropped to the floor.

It was just incredible.

There you go! OK, what about that? Give me five!

The class seems to be falling for our anti-gravity bands.

But are any of them convinced enough to try it themselves?

Who'd like a go at this?

Well, I guess that's all of you.

Everybody get an armband,

we're going to try and do something that we haven't yet attempted.

As the class rush to collect the anti-gravity bands,

Bella and Florrie are backstage getting their flying wires attached.

I think nobody's going to realise what's happening.

We're going to try to affect the gravity of the meteor.

If everyone can just put the bracelet in front of them.

Everybody, put their bracelet out. Open with the fingers.

OK, so, everybody just focus and concentrate. Here we go.

-Here we go, you ready, Bob?

-OK.

-Let's do this!

So the whole class are generating anti-gravity to try and lift

the moon rock, but is that really a good idea?

Sorry, Dr Rank, what's the smoke there?

It's probably just a side effect, that's fine.

OK, keep concentrating...

-No, no, no!

-Whoa!

-I think we should stop...

-Whoa!

Get them back down! Get them back down!

-I was buzzing inside.

-It was just incredible.

Watch out for the roof, girls!

CRASH!

I think it's time to bring everyone back to Earth.

Here we go, we got 'em. Houston, we don't have a problem.

We were just going to announce to the whole class

that they'd been pranked.

-You've just been pranked!

It went so amazing, they were all, like, "Oh, my...!"

We thought, "Oh, it's just going to be

"one of them boring science trips that we usually have."

When we came on this school trip, we had no idea

we were going to get pranked.

They were great, and I think they'll be legends at their school now.

It was absolutely amazing,

because all of their expressions were so amazing.

Bella and Florrie are really good at pranking us,

and they're definitely one to watch.
