as our younger singers are about to find out.

So we're halfway through now and we've tied, having four people,

one a sing-off.

But there's still four sing-offs up for grabs,

so it's anyone's game. So, Matt, were you hoping to get one?

Yeah, I'm hoping I'll do very well in the industry challenge,

but it's really competitive now.

Dianne, the more the challenges go on, do you feel the pressure?

Yeah, I just want to win another.

I think it's all really starting to heat up.

I think the kids are really noticing what it's like

to be in the music industry.

Each episode, musical director David Tench

will teach the group a new song.

But only three will get to perform it in the end-of-show sing-off.

So, David, how do you feel about this song?

I think the song will suit the boys more than the girls.

There's been quite a lot of female songs and big notes, R&B,

money notes, you know?

It, kind of, leaves the boys a little bit in the cold.

So this one is a chance for them to just concentrate on their

performance and get their vibe across.

It's time for me to reveal the song to the group.

Evan, you seem to be a massive fan of the song.

It's really my favourite song to sing in the world.

So far all of the songs have been like, yeah, I really want to

give it a shot and everything. This song, I'm going to go for it!

Lily, do you know the song?

No, I'm not really a massive fan of The Script. Sorry, Evan.

When I first heard the song I thought it was a boy's song

rather than a girl's song and boys usually sing it.

This song is definitely one of my favourites.

'I think this is more of a rocky song

'that we can all put our own spin on.'

I'm feeling great about this song and I do like The Script

and they play the guitar, so I think it's my advantage.

David Tench is one of the most experienced musicians

in the business and has toured with stars

including Kylie Minogue and Take That.

OK, well, let's walk through it, like we always do.

But he may be facing a tough session with the group today.

So, Evan, you're up first.

13-year-old Lily is a power ballad queen from Surrey.

I started performing when I was three.

I get inspiration from, like, other artists.

I love Jennifer Hudson. I love Whitney Houston.

And hopefully one day, you know, my dream can become a reality

because I just want to be a pop star.

When she performed in the third sing-off,

Lily made her mark singing her own ballad version of Riptide.

# I got a lump in my throat because You're gonna sing the words wrong. #

But she hasn't won a sing-off yet,

-so the pressure is on to prove herself.

-I'm very competitive.

If you're not competitive, you're going to get nowhere.

I think we come from a competitive family, don't we?

That's really good, Lily.

A fantastic starting point for your style,

but there's still opportunity for you to get longer notes in places

and, sort of, suit your voice better.

After a tough morning getting to grips with the new song,

the singers are struggling to keep motivated.

People were starting to yawn in the group.

So the focus is not quite there like it was before.

It's been quite intense because

every day we are doing something different.

It's very tiring, just like the music industry, and I keep yawning.

Well, guys, you know, I know how hard it can be,

but you've just got to renew your energy and power through to the end.

Try and fight that sleepiness.

Now is the time they need to dig in.

There's an amazing opportunity at the end to perform

at Radio 1's Big Weekend.

We're halfway through and they're dropping down.

That's not the way to do it. They've got to keep pushing.

To make it in the music industry, you'll need loads of energy.

But how much hard work is really involved?

My top tip for young singers trying

to get in the music industry

is work relentlessly hard on your craft.

When you're like, I can't

be bothered to record

or I can't be bothered to write or practise,

you have to catch yourself when you're doing it.

You've got to put in the hours

and the effort and time

and just be 100% dedicated

to what you do and never give up, really.

Each episode, two end-of-show sing-off spots

can be won in a music industry challenge.

And it's time to find out what the group is facing this time.

When it comes to the music industry,

there's one thing that can really help or hinder your career -

the media.

The press can be a very tricky thing to deal with

and in my career, I've had some real highs and lows.

So for today's challenge we're going to be sending you over to Radio 1.

Radio 1 is home to some of the biggest stars in the industry.

But top musicians have to deal with the downside of success -

lack of privacy, paparazzi and intrusive questions.

And our young singers are about to experience this, too.

We're at BBC London.

Really excited because we've got Lola also doing the vlog.

I can't wait to go inside and see what our challenge is actually

going to be because we don't actually know what we're going to do yet.

Producer Nadia Dunn has worked with lots of famous

artists at Radio 1's Live Lounge.

She's going to explain what's involved in today's challenge.

So welcome to the Live Lounge. Are you excited?

-ALL: Yeah!

-Your challenge today is learning about the media,

because in a moment, you're going to be interviewed by Radio 1's

and CBBC's Cel Spellman!

-ALL:

-Ooh, wow!

Judging today's challenge is someone who interviews music stars as part of his job.

-How are you feeling, sir?

-Scared, worried.

TV presenter and Radio 1 DJ, Cel Spellman.

But before they face Cel, they'll need some advice from Nadia.

So, I'm going to give you a few tips, because it could be a tricky interview.

It's important to keep eye contact with the person

that's interviewing you. So, remember that. Keep looking.

The other thing to remember

is think before you speak.

And if it gets too difficult, you can just say,

"I'm not going to answer that."

Also, don't forget to always be yourself as well.

Because actually, people like you for who you are.

Don't forget those tips and hopefully he won't catch you out.

Let's get started!

The singers will take it in turns to face a grilling from Cel.

The two who most impress Cel and Nadia will get to perform

in the end-of-show sing-off.

This is one of the best challenges because you don't have to really...prepare yourself that much.

-Yeah.

-You've just got to walk in there and answer some questions. So, it may be difficult,

-but it's only going to be in that short period of time.

-I think nerves won't help this.

I'm scared he's going to ask us something and we're supposed to...

No, no, no, are we supposed to REFUSE to answer it,

but we answer it? If you know what I mean?

The wait is over.

It's time to see how they cope under the media spotlight.

-Bonjour? Very nice. How are you?

I'm very fine, thank you. How are you?

-Very well, thank you.

-I'm Matt.

-Hi, Matt. Nice to meet you. I'm Cel.

-OK.

-Erm, good, how are you?

-Not too bad, thank you.

OK, first things first, Matt, what type of artist are you?

-What's your style?

-I think my style really would be alternative.

I haven't got a type of style.

I love every genre of mu... GENRE of music, sorry.

I've got quite a powerful voice. Erm, I sing a lot of ballads.

-Ten years' time, where do you see yourself?

-I see myself in America.

-Accompanied by Nicki Minaj.

-So, I'll be interviewing you and Nicki Minaj?

No problems so far... But how will they cope

when Cel tries to dig a little deeper?

As it is a competition, out of the group,

who would you say your biggest competition is?

I think... Ooh, that's a hard one.

-Erm...

-Erm, I wouldn't say.

Everyone's got their own little styles and we're so different,

but so similar.

Hmm, I don't really want to answer that question.

-So, you're spending a lot of time with your mum, aren't you?

-Yeah.

-Have you ever lied to your mum?

-Oh, yeah.

-Oh, straight up!

-I'm not going to lie!

-Ha! Not to me, I hope!

-No, no.

-I think, I think everyone lies, so, yes.

-A little bit. Little white lie.

-Yeah, definitely.

-Have I ever lied to my mum? Yes.

-And how often?

Once a month?

Couple a month, ten a month?

-A couple a month. Five, six.

With some of the group squirming under the spotlight,

Cel tries to get an exclusive scoop on some juicy gossip.

There's a lot of ladies out there. You being a handsome man and that...

So, the question I'm going to ask you is, have you got a girlfriend?

-No, I don't have a girlfriend.

-There was a slight pause there.

You had to think about it!

Do I have a boyfriend? Erm, oh, gosh...

Erm, I currently am, it's complicated.

-It's complicated at the mo. What's going on? What's up?

-Oh, God!

Have you got a boyfriend?

Erm, well, I can't say...

I don't have a girlfriend.

I'm not into that kind of stuff at the moment.

So, all those lovely ladies out there, you're saying no,

-you can wait.

-Erm, well, I'm not saying no.

But I'm more focused on my career at the moment.

They've finally made it through their interviews.

You really are on the spot when he asks you the questions.

He asked, do I have a boyfriend? And then, I was like,

and, Oh, God, that was so awkward.

I think I did well.

I'm pretty sure everyone else did well.

So, now we've just got to wait and see who won this challenge,

so, hopefully, fingers crossed.

The group have had a taste of what it's like facing the media.

But what advice would professional musicians give?

The media is extremely important. They can make or break you.

Being famous, you know, you have to be careful sometimes.

In the media, they want to know a lot about your personal life.

Take everything that everyone says with a pinch of salt.

If someone is being negative about you

and even if someone is being positive about you,

make sure that it doesn't drag you down or go to your head.

Now, all the group can do is wait while Cel and Nadia

decide on the two winners, who will get to perform in the sing-off.

She wasn't afraid to take a pause to think about what

she was going to say. I thought that was very refreshing.

I thought it was nice how he was quite diplomatic around the competition.

-But he didn't look at me for the whole interview.

-Ah!

I didn't get any eye contact from him - at all.

-I thought her personality really came out in that.

-Yeah.

-And she seemed quite confident.

-She was confident, but in a really nice way.

She had a belief in her own ability, which was quite refreshing, really.

OK, so it's a difficult one. Do you know who you're going to go with?

I think I've got my two. Yes.

Well, I must say, I thought you handled it all brilliantly.

But I did have to choose two of you.

And the first person that we chose was...

I did think I did well, I'm not going to lie!

I didn't think I'd win it. And when he said my name, I was just really shocked.

I learned about, if you're going to be famous,

you have to kind of try to keep some personal things to yourself.

13-year-old Matt is an indie kid from the West Midlands.

I've been singing for most of my life. I've got an identical twin.

Both my brother and I are very musical.

So, we usually do jam together. I think my biggest fan is my mum.

Because she is really, really supportive.

I'm just really proud of Matt when he performs

and I just love to watch him.

And he's my boy!

Sorry...

In his previous sing-off, Matt made a last-minute decision to

perform without David accompanying him.

I was really shocked.

And I felt like it actually affected his performance badly.

I'm just going to take in everything on board.

And next time you see me, I think I'm going to smash it.

That was the best challenge ever, I had the best fun.

It was energetic, what I like.

I knew I'd be up against Diane at the end anyway.

The mums were really being competitive.

There was a few elbows going in there. It was so funny!

I'm really, really proud of my mum

because that's the second challenge won, so I'm so proud.

Second challenge won by me, yay!

Not competitive at all.

So Paddy, Lily and Matt will each be performing their own version

Hello, Lily. How you doing?

Hello, Matt. Yes, Paddy.

And musical director David Tench has a lot of work ahead

to get them performance-ready.

How do you feel about the words,

whereabouts are you on the scale of knowing it?

I know all of it, basically.

# Is this the life you've been dreaming of

# Spending all the day doing the things you love

# It's not too late to do what you love. #

The problem is with that getting that word wrong,

you lose the sense of the song.

It has to be "spending half the day away from the things you love,"

not spending half the day doing the things you love.

OK. Yeah, yeah.

I wasn't too familiar with the song,

but hopefully I can adapt to it and make it sound more like my song.

Lily's done a lot to change her song and I'm really proud

of her for that. It sounds fantastic,

but she's nervous about the lyrics.

Ah! Completely forgot them!

-It's all right!

-Before that, I knew all the words off by heart,

and then as it got to the lesson, I just couldn't remember them.

My mind went blank.

Stressing me out.

Paddy, take a deep breath, man, you're going to be absolutely fine.

He was so worked up, he's got a great voice,

and he's doing really well, as long as he can learn to control

these nerves, because they're taking over him.

Ah! I shouldn't do that. I can't do that!

I shouldn't have done that, I shouldn't have stopped.

-I stopped singing and I stopped again.

-Here's the thing, Paddy.

You've just got to keep going through the song

when you get to the stage.

No matter what happens, don't stop in the middle of the song.

I won't, I'll try my hardest not to.

When I was singing with David, I was quite embarrassed to sing

the song, because I didn't really know it.

You must keep that time.

-In fact, I'll play this drum.

Matt's session was great, but there was only one thing wrong

and that was the timing. That's a very important lesson to learn.

If you're on stage with a band,

everybody needs to understand where the time is.

Mate, it sounds fantastic.

The only thing is you have a tendency to rush, that's all.

Hopefully when he goes out on the stage,

everything will work perfectly.

David has now done everything he can.

It's time for the sing-off

and I'm really, really excited about this one.

Not all of them were very comfortable with the song to begin with

and I want to see how all three of them have done it themselves.

But backstage, the singers could do with some last-minute advice.

I hear you're all very nervous about the words.

-Yeah, very nervous.

-Completely forgot them.

I knew them about an hour ago - not any more.

So are all three of you planning to take the words in with you?

-ALL:

-Yes.

Right, OK. Do you think having your words with you could go

-against you with the judging?

-I think it could,

but I'd rather get all the words right than forget them

-and just stop.

-If you can, just try and hold them

next to you rather than up there the whole time.

Each sing-off, the mums are the judges and will vote to decide

which of the three performers wins.

The person with the most wins after eight episodes

will automatically qualify

for the grand final.

If Paddy wins today, it will put him in the lead.

Katie, how do you feel about seeing Matt up on the stage again?

This is a great song for Matt and he really needs to make it

his own today, so I'm really looking forward to seeing him perform.

I feel quite nervous. It isn't the song

she would usually sing.

Didn't go that well. I forgot my words, but, oh, well...

I thought Paddy was so good with his performance,

his stage presence. He kept amazing eye contact

and he smiled the whole way through even when he stumbled on his words.

So, guys, time to get voting.

It wasn't the best sing-off that we've had,

everybody did do good performances in the end,

but holding those words really held them back.

I just think they should have put more effort

into getting those words down.

It's so important in this industry to be able to pick up lyrics

and learn songs really quickly.

I know in the past, I've had 20 minutes to learn a new song.

So, I know this was a little bit of a tough time for you guys,

you all struggled a little bit with the lyrics.

However, one person does need to win.

I thought Matt's performance this time was absolutely fantastic.

In our rehearsal, the problem that we had was timing, but he did listen

to me and he did perform really well, and in time, and he won.

I didn't think I'd win the sing-off, so it's a massive shock to me.

That's why I got a bit emotional about it.

There are only three sing-offs left now.

And I really think everybody needs to step up.

I think we've had our dip,
