This is Ellis, and she is three years old.

Ellis and her family are having breakfast to give them

-lots of energy for the day.

Where's your sister's bag?

Today, Ellis is going to do something new for the first time,

but what will that be?

This is Ellis's memory box.

It helps her remember the exciting things that have happened.

As Ellis is growing so big,

Mummy thinks it's time to stop wearing nappies.

That means we are going to have to go and buy a new potty.

Potty training is when we learn to use the potty

and stop wearing nappies. Everyone eats food and drink for energy,

but the bits our bodies don't use make waste known as wee and poo.

That needs to go into the toilet to be flushed away.

It's important to remember to always wash your hands after

you've been to the toilet.

Ellis and Mum are coming to the shop to buy some big girl pants

-and get her potty.

-Knickers!

-Would you like those ones?

You're three, so should we get the ones for three-year-olds?

-That's not three.

We need the big, big girl ones now, don't we?

Ellis will need lots of big girl pants to practise using the potty.

-Ellis, we need a potty, don't we, so we can use it?

-Do you know what you might need? You might need a stool to step on.

Mum has decided that Ellis will start potty training tomorrow.

The first thing to go into Ellis's memory box is her potty.

Morning, Ellis. Today's the day you start potty training.

Are you choosing your clothes?

You know how you've got a nappy on?

The second thing in the memory box is your nappy.

-We've got you a new potty here, haven't we?

So, when you need a wee, we are going to come

and use your potty, because this is the bathroom.

Remember, Ellis, after you've finished on the potty,

you clean yourself, flush the waist down the toilet.

Then it's important to wash your hands.

It probably is.

-Towel!

-You've got the towel on your head. Right, come on, then.

Next time, we're going to use the potty, aren't we?

The third thing into the memory box is the toilet.

-Do you know how you're doing your potty training at the moment?

How about every time that you do a wee or a poo on the potty,

on your own, that we can put something in this bag?

I bet it's your ballet clothes.

a little accident? What's that?

and not a nappy, it's nice if they're dry.

It feels a bit funny if they're wet.

It takes time to learn how to use the potty. Accidents can

sometimes happen. There's no need to worry about it.

Over time, you'll learn to understand when your body

is telling you to go to the toilet.

Ellis and Mum are playing houses.
