In one week, these singers must sing live on BBC One

0:00:020:00:04

to an audience of 11 million on Children In Need...

0:00:040:00:07

This is the biggest thing I've ever done and I'm scared.

0:00:070:00:10

-..but the song still isn't right...

-No, stop swooping.

0:00:100:00:14

..their nerves aren't yet under control...

0:00:140:00:17

You have a few hundred people in front,

0:00:170:00:19

but down that camera there's millions.

0:00:190:00:21

..and Gareth is facing his toughest decision yet.

0:00:210:00:24

'This is 11 million people,'

0:00:240:00:26

it's got to be musically right, it's got to look confident

0:00:260:00:29

-and got to sound great.

-Who will be the soloist?

0:00:290:00:32

I want to be the Children In Need soloist, like, more than anything.

0:00:320:00:35

I really, really want it badly. I want it badly!

0:00:350:00:38

The person singing solo live on Children In Need is...

0:00:380:00:43

This is The Big Performance Two.

0:00:430:00:46

Today the Big Performance bus returns to London,

0:01:080:01:12

where the tour began ten weeks ago.

0:01:120:01:15

The final event, singing on Children In Need, is just days away.

0:01:150:01:19

This week is such an important week, facing up to the challenge ahead.

0:01:190:01:23

Choirmaster Gareth Malone has tried every trick up his sleeve

0:01:230:01:27

to get these shy singers to forget their bullied past.

0:01:270:01:30

Now each of them wants to stand out and lead the group.

0:01:300:01:33

They've all tried out for the solo, but now it's time to pick someone.

0:01:330:01:37

It's nerve-wracking. I want to be the soloist. So does everyone else.

0:01:370:01:41

-I've got bad butterflies in my belly.

-Really want it really bad.

0:01:410:01:44

Children In Need is really, really close and I'm really, really scared!

0:01:440:01:49

Since they began ten weeks ago,

0:01:490:01:51

the group has been working towards this final challenge,

0:01:510:01:54

singing to the nation on Children In Need.

0:01:540:01:58

For their final rehearsals,

0:01:580:02:00

Gareth has brought them to Alexandra Palace, the home of live TV.

0:02:000:02:04

I don't think I need to tell you

0:02:050:02:07

how big the Children In Need performance is.

0:02:070:02:10

Everyone's eyes will be on us at that moment.

0:02:100:02:13

It's never been more important that we sing to the best of our abilities.

0:02:130:02:18

In their first lesson, they were too afraid to perform.

0:02:180:02:21

MUMBLING: # Nothing you could say. #

0:02:210:02:24

Now their confidence has grown,

0:02:240:02:26

but they must perfect their vocal quality.

0:02:260:02:30

# There's nothing you could say There's nothing you could do. #

0:02:300:02:34

That, for me, is the right sort of volume,

0:02:340:02:37

especially for that beginning bit,

0:02:370:02:40

but what isn't there is the intensity.

0:02:400:02:43

Really meaning the words.

0:02:430:02:45

It's not just in your eyes and your face and here, it's your whole body.

0:02:450:02:49

You've got to feel it! # Keep holding on. #

0:02:490:02:53

It's not feeling like, "Yeah!" Give me that intensity.

0:02:530:02:56

# You're not alone

0:02:560:02:57

# Together we stand

0:02:570:03:00

# I'll be by your side You know I'll take your hand

0:03:000:03:03

# Keep holding on. #

0:03:050:03:10

I loved the intensity, that was fantastic!

0:03:100:03:12

Just not, # Keep hol... ra RA ra. #

0:03:120:03:16

I need clean notes.

0:03:160:03:18

With such little time to go until their national debut,

0:03:180:03:21

-Gareth's standards are high.

-# Keep holding on... #

0:03:210:03:25

No! Stop swooping.

0:03:250:03:28

# Holding o-o-on. # Can you hear the difference?

0:03:280:03:32

I'm asking a lot of them quite deliberately

0:03:320:03:34

cos I think the occasion demands it.

0:03:340:03:36

We need great singing, a fantastic soloist,

0:03:360:03:38

so I need someone who is solid as a rock,

0:03:380:03:41

who doesn't flinch in that final performance.

0:03:410:03:43

At the start of the Big Performance Tour,

0:03:430:03:46

all ten singers were petrified of leading the group.

0:03:460:03:49

Who feels like they could do a solo in front of the nation? No?

0:03:490:03:54

-I think I'd stumble when I'm singing.

-I'd just freeze.

0:03:540:03:57

One by one they tried out for the solo spot

0:03:570:04:00

and now they're all DESPERATE to be chosen.

0:04:000:04:03

So Gareth is giving them one more chance to re-audition

0:04:030:04:06

and prove how far they've come.

0:04:060:04:09

This is what everything has been about.

0:04:090:04:11

This moment where I pick the soloist is so important.

0:04:110:04:13

Gareth will be choosing a shortlist of just five.

0:04:130:04:17

# You're not alone Together we stand... #

0:04:170:04:20

# I'll be by your side You know I'll take your... # Ahem.

0:04:200:04:24

# When it gets cold And it feels like the end... #

0:04:240:04:28

# There's no place to go You know I won't give in... #

0:04:280:04:32

# Keep holding on... #

0:04:320:04:37

When I was put on the spot it was really, really scary.

0:04:370:04:40

I can normally cope with the pressure of performing

0:04:400:04:43

in front of the group,

0:04:430:04:44

but performing and knowing that you're being judged to get the solo,

0:04:440:04:48

that is a lot harder.

0:04:480:04:50

It's not down to this moment, there's more to consider,

0:04:500:04:52

there's how they've reacted, they've worked, how they performed.

0:04:520:04:56

That I'm taking into consideration.

0:04:560:04:58

# Keep holding on... #

0:04:580:05:01

# You know you're going to make it through... #

0:05:030:05:04

# Make it through... #

0:05:040:05:05

I know that was really difficult,

0:05:050:05:07

BUT let's remember how far we have come.

0:05:070:05:11

Could you have done that ten weeks ago? NO WAY!

0:05:110:05:15

I'm really proud of all of you. Well done.

0:05:150:05:19

The once timid group are unrecognisable.

0:05:190:05:21

All of them now want to make Gareth's final five.

0:05:210:05:25

I want to be the Children In Need soloist more than anything.

0:05:250:05:28

It's so massive to me. I want to be the soloist so bad.

0:05:280:05:32

I don't think it was good enough at all, I think I really messed it up.

0:05:320:05:36

The first person on the shortlist is...

0:05:360:05:39

Molly.

0:05:430:05:45

James.

0:05:470:05:49

Tia.

0:05:500:05:51

Joan.

0:05:540:05:57

-Sasha.

-Oh, my God!

0:05:580:06:01

No giggling, please.

0:06:030:06:04

I'm going to do as well as I can because I believe in myself.

0:06:040:06:08

I can't believe I've got a chance of doing the solo.

0:06:080:06:12

I think the soloists have got a really big job on their hands

0:06:120:06:15

but I'll be at the back supporting them.

0:06:150:06:17

Just think, a million people... I can do it.

0:06:170:06:20

They've made it this far, but it's not over yet.

0:06:200:06:23

Everyone on the shortlist will have to re-audition later for the solo.

0:06:230:06:29

In front of...

0:06:290:06:31

Scouting For Girls.

0:06:310:06:33

Scouting For Girls have sold over 1.2 million albums

0:06:330:06:37

and been nominated for a Brit and Ivor Novello award.

0:06:370:06:42

They know what level of performance will be needed from the soloists.

0:06:420:06:45

# Do, do, do, do... #

0:06:450:06:48

When they sing on Children In Need, it'll be to 11 million viewers.

0:06:480:06:52

Performing on the same stage as singing superstars,

0:06:520:06:56

they've a lot to live up to.

0:06:560:06:58

Spice Girls legend Melanie C helped the group

0:06:580:07:01

with their live radio performance, earlier on in the tour.

0:07:010:07:04

Whenever you're performing, if you can identify with the words

0:07:040:07:07

you're singing, you're going to get the best performance.

0:07:070:07:10

Now she's back to inspire the group with their very own private gig.

0:07:100:07:13

# I've been waiting right here

0:07:130:07:16

# For things to get better... #

0:07:160:07:18

It was really cool to see Melanie C again.

0:07:180:07:22

It just helps everyone out.

0:07:220:07:24

And, boy, can she turn on a performance.

0:07:240:07:26

We need to do that when we get to Children In Need.

0:07:260:07:28

It can't be half measures, it's got to be 100%.

0:07:280:07:31

# Why do I feel so weak?

0:07:310:07:35

# So weak

0:07:350:07:38

# So weak

0:07:380:07:41

So weak #

0:07:430:07:46

APPLAUSE

0:07:460:07:48

-Did she look nervous?

-No.

-No, not at all.

0:07:480:07:50

You have to be like that on stage. You owe it to the audience.

0:07:500:07:53

When we sing, you have to really concentrate,

0:07:530:07:56

but you just go straight in there.

0:07:560:07:58

It's difficult, you do find your concentration wandering.

0:07:580:08:01

You may have a few hundred people in front of you,

0:08:010:08:03

but down that camera there'll be millions.

0:08:030:08:05

If you're enjoying yourself, people will enjoy watching you,

0:08:050:08:09

enjoying yourself. That's the most important thing to remember.

0:08:090:08:13

She was fixed on the song and wasn't bothered about the audience.

0:08:130:08:17

She was just bothered about giving a good performance.

0:08:170:08:19

That's what I need to do.

0:08:190:08:21

From the minute Melanie walks into the room, she's performing.

0:08:210:08:24

As soon as the song started, she was lost in the words, lost in the music.

0:08:240:08:28

That's what you need.

0:08:280:08:30

OK, we haven't been in the Spice Girls

0:08:300:08:32

and we haven't been around the world, but we are capable of that.

0:08:320:08:35

These guys need to give 100%, because anything less is not good enough.

0:08:350:08:39

When the group sing on live TV,

0:08:390:08:41

they'll be leading Gareth's nationwide choir

0:08:410:08:44

and they'll need to take to the stage like professionals,

0:08:440:08:46

which means a slick performance in every way.

0:08:460:08:50

When we perform at Children In Need, we need to have the full package.

0:08:500:08:54

It's no good just standing there and singing well,

0:08:540:08:57

we've got to have choreography.

0:08:570:08:59

When I say, "choreography" I don't just mean

0:08:590:09:02

busting out some of your best moves.

0:09:020:09:05

I mean, looking slick, have full presentation.

0:09:050:09:07

Briony, make us look good.

0:09:070:09:10

Briony's danced for countless stars on stage and on screen.

0:09:100:09:13

Alesha Dixon, Madonna and Robbie Williams.

0:09:130:09:15

Now she's worked out some choreography to make the group

0:09:150:09:19

look slick and synchronised.

0:09:190:09:21

So, first of all, we need to think about stage presence,

0:09:210:09:24

heads up, looking confident. The first move's this.

0:09:240:09:27

The second move is this.

0:09:270:09:30

The third move is this and the fourth move is this. Exactly!

0:09:300:09:33

The bigger and clearer you make it, the better.

0:09:330:09:36

# Keep holding on... #

0:09:360:09:41

Yes! It's going to look good, I can tell.

0:09:410:09:43

I think it's easier to sing the song with choreography

0:09:430:09:46

because you get more into the song and it's a lot more enjoyable.

0:09:460:09:51

The group are more synchronised,

0:09:510:09:52

but they're still not convincing Briony and Gareth.

0:09:520:09:55

Your voice is really beautiful.

0:09:550:09:57

But your face to me is saying, "I'm not enjoying myself that much."

0:09:570:10:00

Now, this time, just give me a little bit of a smile, everyone cos all of you weren't smiling.

0:10:000:10:05

I was looking at you, sorry.

0:10:050:10:06

It's important to smile, or you won't look like you're enjoying it.

0:10:060:10:10

The hardest thing is to perform and smile and remember your moves and remember your words.

0:10:100:10:15

Briony picked up on it immediately. They simply weren't smiling.

0:10:150:10:18

Now I want you guys to do it happy.

0:10:180:10:20

Present to me like you're enjoying yourself so much. Here we go.

0:10:200:10:24

# Just stay strong

0:10:240:10:29

# Cos you know I'm here for you I'm here for you... #

0:10:290:10:32

'I'll make sure I put a lot of expression'

0:10:320:10:34

into my singing and that.

0:10:340:10:35

Just make sure I can do the best that I can do.

0:10:350:10:37

'Do you know what? I don't even recognise Tia.'

0:10:370:10:40

She's dancing, she's moving, she's standing up taller, singing with confidence, really good to see.

0:10:400:10:45

# Keep holding on

0:10:450:10:50

# Cos you know we'll make it through Make it through... #

0:10:500:10:53

The audience are going to be here,

0:10:530:10:55

so let's make sure that we're looking at our audience.

0:10:550:10:58

It's really vital that they get this cos the camera could be

0:10:580:11:00

on any of them at any time.

0:11:000:11:02

Their whole family will be watching, their whole school will be watching,

0:11:020:11:05

the whole town will be watching, the whole country will be watching. It's got to be right.

0:11:050:11:09

It's an extremely daunting challenge

0:11:090:11:12

but the once-shy performers are feeling determined.

0:11:120:11:15

Now we have to pull together as a group and just practise, practise.

0:11:150:11:18

If you get stuck you have moves to help you with the words.

0:11:180:11:22

For me that was a really proud moment cos

0:11:220:11:25

they went from standing there looking miserable,

0:11:250:11:28

to looking quite professional with moves and attitude

0:11:280:11:31

and their faces were all smiley - I was really proud of them.

0:11:310:11:33

I think it could be great if they do it like that.

0:11:330:11:36

In a matter of minutes, five of the group will re-audition

0:11:400:11:43

for the solo spot in front of Gareth and Scouting For Girls.

0:11:430:11:47

How do the stars keep their cool before a big performance?

0:11:470:11:50

All the thinking about being nervous and what's coming up,

0:11:500:11:53

-that's when it really gets to you.

-You're going to panic.

0:11:530:11:57

Yeah. So don't think about it till just before you go on stage.

0:11:570:12:00

Physically you should warm up yourself before you perform.

0:12:000:12:04

If you can do ten press-ups

0:12:040:12:06

or sit-ups or sprint on the spot, just to get your blood pumping and get your adrenaline going.

0:12:060:12:11

I always warm up on my guitar, I do scales and everything.

0:12:110:12:15

And then I get all excited with my band, probably jump around,

0:12:150:12:18

have a massive smile on my face and just get psyched up for the show.

0:12:180:12:22

When Gareth first met the singers they were too scared

0:12:220:12:26

to perform in front of him, now five of them will be

0:12:260:12:28

singing for their chance as the Big Performance soloist.

0:12:280:12:31

This has got to be a tough audition cos they have such a big task ahead of them.

0:12:310:12:35

If they forget words and crumble and fall apart and start to cry,

0:12:350:12:38

that's really going to affect my faith in them

0:12:380:12:40

to be able to pull off that performance at the end.

0:12:400:12:43

Gareth will pick two to lead the group in a very special

0:12:430:12:46

performance later today.

0:12:460:12:48

I've picked the five singers that I think could do this performance

0:12:480:12:51

and really pull it off well.

0:12:510:12:54

In that five, one of them will be my soloist but I don't know who yet.

0:12:540:12:59

Hoping it's her,

0:12:590:13:01

first to face the judging panel is 12-year-old Molly from Coventry.

0:13:010:13:05

I feel like all excited but nervous at the same time.

0:13:050:13:09

I just want to have the confidence to do it and show that

0:13:090:13:12

I can be that person that stands up on the stage and sings by myself.

0:13:120:13:16

Let's get the first one in. Molly, come on in.

0:13:190:13:22

When Gareth first met Molly, she'd be so severely bullied she could barely look anyone in the eye.

0:13:230:13:29

# There is a castle on a cloud... #

0:13:290:13:33

Can she now show she's got what it takes for centre stage in front of millions?

0:13:330:13:38

# There are a hundred boys and girls

0:13:380:13:43

# Nobody shouts or talks too loud. #

0:13:430:13:47

Thank you, Molly, well done.

0:13:470:13:49

I think I've changed from my first audition.

0:13:490:13:52

I think I've got more confidence and I'm not the same person. I'm a different Molly.

0:13:520:13:56

I you could see nerves in her face but it was quite endearing.

0:13:560:13:59

-I feel something when Molly sings.

-Yeah, she channels it into a good place.

0:13:590:14:03

Draws you in, I think you're right.

0:14:030:14:05

I tried my best to impress them so hopefully it worked.

0:14:050:14:09

Next is Sasha.

0:14:090:14:11

Her extreme nerves used to see her shake uncontrollably when performing.

0:14:110:14:16

I'm Sasha and I'm singing Adele - Make You Feel My Love.

0:14:160:14:19

When Sasha last sang this song to Gareth she was

0:14:190:14:22

so scared she could hardly get past the first line.

0:14:220:14:26

# When the rain is blowing in your face... #

0:14:260:14:29

-WHISPERS:

-I can't do it.

0:14:290:14:32

Now is her last chance to show him

0:14:320:14:33

her confidence is as strong as her voice.

0:14:330:14:36

# I can hold you for a million years

0:14:360:14:39

# To make you feel my love

0:14:390:14:44

# I know you... #

0:14:440:14:47

Carry on.

0:14:470:14:48

'I was a bit shaky and I could hear it in my voice

0:14:480:14:50

'and if I can hear it then they can hear it.'

0:14:500:14:53

She did make a few mistakes.

0:14:530:14:55

She laughed it off and did keep going which is a great thing to do.

0:14:550:14:59

But I feel there's a lot of potential.

0:14:590:15:00

The question is will she realise it before Children In Need.

0:15:000:15:03

Is she going to be ready?

0:15:030:15:05

I did as well as I could and if that's not enough then it's not enough.

0:15:050:15:09

I'm just thinking what if I go wrong and make some mistakes

0:15:090:15:12

but I'm just going to give it my best shot and see what happens.

0:15:120:15:16

Joan's lack of belief in herself used to run

0:15:160:15:19

so deep she was petrified to sing in front of anyone.

0:15:190:15:22

I really want to song, and make people happy and stuff, but I don't know why I can't do it.

0:15:220:15:28

Singing her first audition song, Amazing Grace,

0:15:280:15:32

can she prove her new-found strength is here to stay?

0:15:320:15:35

# That saved a wretch like me... #

0:15:360:15:43

Scary!

0:15:430:15:45

There's the nervous Joan and then there's the strong confident Joan.

0:15:450:15:48

What I saw there was the strong confident Joan. I'm really happy about that.

0:15:480:15:52

I don't know, I feel like I've done a bad job.

0:15:520:15:57

Next is one of the most nervous of the group.

0:15:570:16:01

Until last week, Tia had found singing so petrifying,

0:16:010:16:03

just the thought of it made her cry.

0:16:030:16:06

I am feeling the pressure so much.

0:16:060:16:08

Tia has only just found her voice...

0:16:080:16:11

can she continues to impress?

0:16:110:16:13

# And you can tell everybody

0:16:130:16:16

# That this is your song

0:16:160:16:20

# It may be quite simple

0:16:200:16:23

# But now that it's done... #

0:16:230:16:26

Really well done, off you go.

0:16:260:16:29

WHISPERS: I'm so proud of her. That's a amazing.

0:16:290:16:33

That was so scary.

0:16:330:16:35

When I first met her, she was in floods of tears. She cried her way through the whole thing.

0:16:350:16:40

It's like a different girl, I'm really, really proud of her.

0:16:400:16:43

He managed to hold his own in front of 3,000 strangers at a folk festival,

0:16:430:16:49

but delivering in front of a panel of professionals is an entirely different challenge.

0:16:490:16:54

Especially for perfectionist James.

0:16:540:16:57

Getting this audition right means everything to me.

0:16:570:17:00

It may be one verse at Children In Need

0:17:000:17:02

but that one verse is like the world, I really want to get it.

0:17:020:17:06

He's feeling the pressure. Can he keep his cool?

0:17:060:17:09

# And she don't want to go outside

0:17:090:17:13

# It's too cold outside

0:17:130:17:18

# For angels to fly

0:17:180:17:21

# For angels to fly. #

0:17:210:17:25

I tried my best to hit the high notes and I think I hit them OK.

0:17:250:17:29

He probably had the hardest song. Lots of places to go wrong and I thought he did it with style.

0:17:290:17:34

Now Gareth needs to take the list of five names down to just two.

0:17:340:17:37

She's got the right voice.

0:17:370:17:39

I feel really sick inside and butterflies and really scared.

0:17:390:17:44

I think they were the most confident and maybe did slightly stronger vocals...

0:17:440:17:48

I could feel better. I think everyone could feel better at the moment.

0:17:480:17:52

I want the solo more than anything right now.

0:17:520:17:55

I really, really want it badly. I want it badly!

0:17:550:17:59

Ultimately this has to be about quality, this one.

0:17:590:18:02

-And for me that means it's those two.

-I'd agree, yeah.

0:18:020:18:06

Thank you so much, that's really made it a lot easier.

0:18:060:18:08

-Pleasure.

-It's a tough decision. Very difficult. Thank you, guys.

0:18:080:18:13

I'm going to tell them now.

0:18:130:18:14

Good luck, we're off.

0:18:140:18:16

Thank you very much.

0:18:160:18:17

Job done. Now comes the hard part.

0:18:170:18:19

Breaking the news to the group.

0:18:190:18:22

Right, I've made my decision. I've whittled it down to two finalists.

0:18:260:18:32

The first finalist is...

0:18:380:18:41

James.

0:18:460:18:47

WHOOPING

0:18:470:18:48

I am so happy. The feeling is out of this world, you cannot describe it.

0:18:480:18:52

The second and final finalist is...

0:18:520:18:54

..Joan.

0:19:020:19:04

Shaking like a leaf. Happy?

0:19:060:19:10

Yes? Really well done.

0:19:100:19:11

I really want this position to be the soloist. I'm just going to really prove myself.

0:19:110:19:16

I feel disappointed that I didn't get it but I'm so excited

0:19:160:19:19

cos James and Joan got it and I think they're going to rock the stage.

0:19:190:19:24

I was really disappointed but I have to support James

0:19:240:19:28

and Joan cos it is a solo.

0:19:280:19:31

Later on you are going to be leading the group in a performance

0:19:310:19:35

for a very special audience.

0:19:350:19:37

At the end of that I will decide which one of you is going to be The Big Performance soloist.

0:19:370:19:42

I was literally shaking, I'm still shaking right now - look at it.

0:19:420:19:46

I've just got to focus on he audience and think,

0:19:470:19:50

"They're the ones I've got to impress."

0:19:500:19:52

I've got to put on a show.

0:19:520:19:53

What they don't know yet is that the audience will be

0:19:530:19:56

a packed West End theatre full of their closest friends and family.

0:19:560:20:00

From ten hopeful soloists it's now down to two.

0:20:040:20:07

And at the next stop, James and Joan will be singing for the solo spot.

0:20:070:20:12

It's a big responsibility for me, it's a big responsibility for them.

0:20:120:20:15

For that soloist...

0:20:150:20:18

they're carrying the weight of all our hopes.

0:20:180:20:21

This isn't about being nice to someone and giving them a chance.

0:20:210:20:24

This is about choosing the right person for a very professional performance.

0:20:240:20:28

Joan and James are taking centre stage but the whole group must

0:20:280:20:31

pull off their most difficult performance yet.

0:20:310:20:34

Time for one last rehearsal.

0:20:340:20:36

Last time when they sang live on local news,

0:20:360:20:39

nerves affected them physically.

0:20:390:20:41

-Fidget, fidget, fidget the whole time. Are you listening?

-Yeah.

-Can you look at me?

0:20:410:20:46

What I'm seeing is that you're looking at all this stuff. None of this stuff matters.

0:20:460:20:50

OK. I'm recording.

0:20:500:20:52

To ensure this doesn't happen again. Gareth wants to show them their performance

0:20:520:20:56

through the audience's eyes.

0:20:560:20:59

OK, everyone come and sit down and let's just watch it back.

0:21:000:21:03

So just watch and see if you're IN the performance the whole time.

0:21:030:21:07

I can't watch.

0:21:070:21:08

# Keep holding on

0:21:080:21:13

# Cos you know we'll make it through We'll make it through

0:21:130:21:17

-# You're far away I wish you were here... #

-Oh, nice pick.

0:21:170:21:20

I was scratching it!

0:21:200:21:23

Eyes, eyes, eyes...dancing

0:21:230:21:25

THEY LAUGH

0:21:250:21:28

GARETH SINGS ALONG: Holding...holding

0:21:300:21:32

Right, there you go. What did you think?

0:21:350:21:39

-Rubbish and needs work.

-It's not 100%, is it? It's just all looks a bit random.

0:21:390:21:43

We just need to fix on one thing, don't we?

0:21:430:21:45

Seeing myself on tape was absolutely horrible.

0:21:450:21:49

Everyone else was smiling and dancing along.

0:21:490:21:51

I was forgetting moves and not singing properly.

0:21:510:21:54

It just really made me feel bad.

0:21:540:21:56

It looked so messy.

0:21:560:21:57

When Imogen was smiling you could see

0:21:570:21:59

-we all need to be like that cos it looks so much better already.

-I think we know what we need to do.

0:21:590:22:04

You know how to do it better. You did it better this morning.

0:22:040:22:07

I think seeing themselves on video has really helped cos they needed to know

0:22:070:22:10

that it just simply isn't good enough to stand there fidgeting.

0:22:100:22:14

I think now they know what they need to fix and they've just got to put it right.

0:22:140:22:17

Reality check over, will it help them impress their most familiar audience yet?

0:22:170:22:22

You are going to be performing for an audience of your closest friends and family.

0:22:220:22:28

THEY GROAN

0:22:280:22:31

I'm really dreading this performance cos I know the people

0:22:310:22:33

and I'll see them again and again.

0:22:330:22:35

Family is pretty daunting to me.

0:22:350:22:37

I feel like I'm going to fall over right now from all the pressure.

0:22:370:22:40

I'll start crying and stop it all. I really don't want that to happen.

0:22:400:22:45

Knowing that they're going to perform for a familiar audience,

0:22:450:22:48

I think that's making it very, very pressured and emotional.

0:22:480:22:51

And when you get emotional it's very hard to sing.

0:22:510:22:54

Their family and friends are taking their seats and are full of anticipation.

0:22:570:23:02

The pressure's on.

0:23:020:23:03

I can even see the lights and I can feel the nerves.

0:23:030:23:07

I'm feeling very great about Joan, to see her performing today.

0:23:100:23:14

This is a really, really important audience.

0:23:170:23:19

Don't let it intimidate you.

0:23:190:23:22

Turn on the performance I know you are capable of.

0:23:220:23:25

I want to see magic.

0:23:250:23:27

Outside I just don't feel like I'm showing it

0:23:300:23:33

but inside I feel like I'm about to blow up.

0:23:330:23:35

I am really nervous and I'm shaking but I'm trying to keep

0:23:380:23:42

the nerves in so that it turns out to be a good performance.

0:23:420:23:45

All the way through I've been trying to get the best performances

0:23:450:23:49

out of them when the audience are in, when it counts

0:23:490:23:52

and I really hope that's what I get from those two soloists.

0:23:520:23:56

It's their final performance before Children In Need.

0:24:010:24:05

Any mistakes at this stage could jeopardise months of hard work.

0:24:050:24:08

# You're not alone

0:24:130:24:15

# Together we stand

0:24:150:24:18

# I'll be by your side

0:24:180:24:19

# You know I'll take your hand

0:24:190:24:22

# When it gets cold

0:24:220:24:23

# And it feels like the end

0:24:230:24:25

# There's no place to go

0:24:250:24:27

# You know I won't give in

0:24:270:24:30

# No I won't give in

0:24:310:24:34

# Keep holding on

0:24:370:24:42

# Cos you know we'll make it through Make it through

0:24:420:24:45

# Just stay strong

0:24:450:24:49

# Cos you know I'm here for you

0:24:490:24:51

# I'm here for you

0:24:510:24:53

# There's nothing you can say

0:24:530:24:55

# There's nothing you can do

0:24:550:24:57

# There's no other way when it comes to the truth

0:24:570:25:00

# So keep holding on

0:25:000:25:06

# Keep holding on

0:25:060:25:10

# Keep holding on. #

0:25:100:25:15

BOTH: We did it. We did it!

0:25:300:25:32

'I'm very proud of myself right now.'

0:25:320:25:34

I can't believe I just did that!

0:25:340:25:35

I'm just really happy.

0:25:350:25:37

That energy, that meaning in the singing.

0:25:370:25:40

I know you can do it now so I'm looking for even more when we get there

0:25:400:25:44

but be VERY pleased with yourselves. That was a great performance.

0:25:440:25:48

Spirits are high but Gavin still has to decide who will sing the solo.

0:25:500:25:55

If Gareth read out my name and I was the soloist,

0:25:550:25:58

I think I'd probably cry.

0:25:580:26:01

'This has been one of the biggest things that's happened to me.'

0:26:010:26:04

If Gareth read out my name, it would mean the world to me.

0:26:040:26:07

I'm sure they're going to be absolutely in pieces when it comes to the night.

0:26:070:26:12

I need to know that it's someone who can handle that.

0:26:120:26:15

This is 11 million people we're talking about.

0:26:150:26:18

It's got to be musically right, look confident, sound great and I think I know who that is.

0:26:180:26:23

Who can Gareth rely on to lead the group in the final Big Performance?

0:26:230:26:28

Will it be James?

0:26:300:26:32

Or Joan?

0:26:330:26:34

The person singing solo live on Children In Need is...

0:26:370:26:41

James.

0:26:510:26:52

I felt happy, amazed, surprised.

0:26:570:26:59

'It was so close.'

0:26:590:27:00

I was that close so... I felt I gave it my 100%.

0:27:020:27:05

I just think he's going to rock the whole thing

0:27:050:27:08

and we are going to support him, all of us.

0:27:080:27:11

There is no denying it,

0:27:110:27:12

this is like a dream come true. It is THE Big Performance.

0:27:120:27:16

I think you could see in that performance today

0:27:180:27:21

all the bits of advice coming together.

0:27:210:27:23

They no longer look afraid of the stage.

0:27:230:27:26

They now have to consolidate all of that

0:27:260:27:28

and put it into the best performance of their lives.

0:27:280:27:31

The true enormity of what we're about to do hasn't yet hit them.

0:27:450:27:49

I'm worried for when it does because this is Big with capital B.
